Too long have we heard the cries that ZeniMax Online's Elder Scrolls Online was slipping into maintenance mode, the studio ready to fully move onto its unnamed MMO project. Yet, while yesterday's announcement it was leaving Chapters behind might seem like maintenance mode, the actual work outlined in 2025 shows its anything but.

Totally agree with this. This is a step forward, not back.

Souns fishy. This moves usually come after the game does really bad and try to revert the tendency or are the prelude to the game going really bad.

I liked the game back in the days so I hope they do well and make it to 20 years anniversary.

If you are not still putting out an expansion a year (a proper expansion mind), what are they putting out?

Personally I'd like to see them do something other than once a year add a new map with largely copy/paste content from every other map. Sure the story is a little different but the actual substance of the content is the same. Do a few fetch/kill quests to earn someone's trust. Get told the "real story" behind whatever is going on, go to a delve, solve a puzzle, kill a boss, become the home town hero, get a FedEx quest to the next area. Rinse and repeat. I mean doesn't that by in large sum up this entire game?

I'd like to see something other than that. We'll see if this is it. My hopes aren't high.

Let's see how its implemented and then we will know. let's see how the monetize it and how they grant access to subs versus non-subs. They can experiment all the want but change is not always good.

I had a hard time with ESO....It just wasnt my thing.....the quests were not good and I got tired of the same ole same ole gameplay.....It's disappointing because I did like some of the older ES games but I thought this one fell flat.

This embellishment of existing areas sounds concerningly like a car manufacturer padding out their end of line model until they can launch something new.

I feel the game needs a restart with new characters, zones, storylines..... essentially a brand new mmo.

This article is like Baghdad Bob telling us everything is fine, don't worry.

This was my thought too. I'm guessing that ESO expects to get more money from this model, more money is their non-stop goal.

What if I don't want to pay more money? let's say they add a new story arc in an existing zone. I don't get access to it, probably; can I group with people who are running that new arc? If they make overland mobs harder for a season, do I see that?

Season passes and cash shop items I suppose, which is a sparse meal compared to what most MMORPGs will serve.
