Guild Wars: should i get it? Why or why not?

juice_popsjuice_pops Member UncommonPosts: 70

I have $50 again and i am thinking about getting Guild Wars, well, i have $30 and i can easily get 20.
I am getting this because of the no monthly fee thing, any users that play it can you tell me anything that is good about it or someone else might point me to a different mmorpg that has no monthly fee also.

Thanks in advance.

I cannot call this game FREE forever coz every 6 months they will sale expansion packs and if u dont buy the expansion youre game will become useless. The expansions packs are worth the same with the original. So that means they get more money than having monthly fees. My suggestion, dont buy it if you cant afford it!!!

    lol

    1. They never said they are releasing every 6 months, more like 9-10 months.

    2. Even if it is every 6 months, $50 divided among 6 months = $8.33/month. Basic math helps, eh?

its a good game... but its "too easy" to do everything. It also has a really annoying community... you'll see alotta people dancing in their underwear. There's no crafting skills, so the only thing you do is basically fight. Besides that, you can "teleport" to other towns easily, the pvp's fun, and graphics are quite nice  image

Guild Wars, like so many other things, has a love/hate thing going on. I didn't enjoy it at all. Why?

    1) fully instanced world. If you want to run into other people -- don't play this. Outside the cities, the world is 100% instanced -- meaning, if you didn't bring some pals with you, you're all by yourself. Sorta does away with the whole "massively multiplayer" thing, in the instanced areas (the bulk of the world).
    2) no-effort PvP -- wanna PvP? Just step right into the arena and be auto-levelled to the maximum level, no effort required. Off you go! Doesn't get more dumbed-down than that.
    3) non-3d world. If that cave you're going to is 20' away, but over a 1-degree rise in the ground, you'll have to follow the predetermined path that goes 6 miles out of the way to get to it -- because the developers didn't make the world environment, what's the word, 3d? Realistic? Can't walk up the 1-degree incline, can't jump off cliffs, can't step over a twig, etc. You'll follow the paths they laid out, period. Not impressive at all.

The first is a question of taste, I don't like a 99% instanced world. The second you can take or leave, it's up to you. The third is just pathetic design.

Like PvP with a point? Play Shadowbane or DAoC.

It's definitely worth the cover charge. It has great graphics and a fun quest system you will probably enjoy. Quite deep skill system and very fun PvP of the arena type. If you are looking for a pervasive world then you won't find it here, and the maps are all instanced except for the towns where people can gather in between.

All in all, it is the biggest chunk of online RPG goodness you will likely ever get for 50 bucks.

    EDIT: spelling
