Ok I might be wrong here

Ok I just might be Way off base here, but, is the MMORPG market just getting flodded? AC2 is dead, others are starting to falter, while others grow strong. Is it all because game "A" has horrid graphics to much grinding, no storyline etc............ while Game "B" is just unbeliveable, or can some of it be blamed on a gamer to game ratio? Are there enough gamers to support all these games coming to release? I started playing EQ on release and although I rarely play I do occasonaly play. Right now I mainly play EvE, and I can see my self playing for along time. Afterall isnt the Idea of MMORPG's longevity? Or am I wrong there to?

So gimme some input is the reason some games Die (if they even release) 100% because of the quality of the game, or are there starting to be to many MMO's?

I would say you are right, the market is being flooded with games that are all clones of each other.  I have high hopes for the next generation of games, they seem to be mixing it up and bringing Innovation into the genre.

It does help though, SOE finally has competition and they are atleast making an effort to get their act together with EQ2. Although it does split the playerbase, overall it means standards have to be risen to keep subscriptions. These kind of niche long term games like EVE, where the devs are decent enough, will last a long while.

    ----------------------------------
MMOs Retired From: Earth and Beyond, Project Entropia, There, A Tale in the Desert, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Eve Online, City of Heroes/Villains.

    MMOs Currently (worth) Playing: None.

    MMO hopefuls: Age of Conan.

Games that die have 2 reasons.

    i) The game really sucked, on content, bad customer support etc. you name it.

ii) Clones. Some companies see video gaming as a nice profit business, so they thought "Hey, let's clone someone else's game but change it slightly, and make tons of profit". Those 'innovative' games only last few months of hype or perhaps 1 to 2 years max if they can keep up the good content.

I think the market is big enough and still growing, after the success of World of Warcraft and Lineage 2. However, much like it always happens when a new market emerges, there will be companies who seek to exploit the new market, making quick profit with low development costs and will just create a clone of already existant games. The Korean market is flooded with such games that barely differ from each other.

That's not the case in Asheron's Call 2, though. First of all, it was a sequel, therefore the expectations were a bit different from the expectations one would have for a new game. It failed to really provide new content, some of its "innovations" were just silly, like no NPC merchants and selling loot from the inventory, etc, etc.

    Currently playing:
    * City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
    * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.

Some don't Beta enough, both eq2 and Ac2 are guilty of that. Amazingly SoE manage to keep customers when they f*ck up. Whereas Ac2 didn't manage to do that.

i agree with the point that the mmorpg market is flooded

but in AC2's defense it had a great and unique storyline , good graphics for a 2002 game tho performance was lacking and as for the grind you really nvr atleast i didnt feel any grind until 30-40 but after that it picked up again

the problem with AC2 is that it was a throwback in some ways to an "eq clone" this was especially troubling for many AC gamers
