This thread is great lol... so many bad predications. Everybody who feels the urge to make forcasts on this hobby should be legally required to sit and read through *all* of the posts here in the hope they can gain some wisdom :P
But,, say that... Warhammer: AoR looks like it will storm the market in about a year or so. I don't see much that can challange WoW's status until then.
I think the next big one will be: well a couple have great potential and pedigree, warhammer online yes the names are the making the game and the game itself it will be big jus due to the fanbase but i dont agree it will be that great a game, conan has got good potential with its combat system. but however i believe that Darkfall has got ubers of potential if they can successfully implement their ideas and from what i have read they r close woith the game goiing into beta in september.
they dont have levels but instead have open ended skill systems which is where the mmoprg games are headed now.
the combat system is jus click and watch u guide your own attacks and areas to target.
the death penalty is similar to that of shadowbane where your drop your inventory which i think is good.
and like dark age of camelot there are race alliances in game, however saying this it does NOt mean u cannot attack those of your own alliance. Alignment will bve affected
Alignment is also what players are craving in games now, they want a sense of consequence for actions good and bad that is also in.
Again a highly ambitious feat they have gone for is mount combat and it seems like they might pull it of.
But with all this i hear u say graphics its true there have been massive misconceptions about their graphics and screens were posted with unpolished graphics and they themselves removed them and said it was a mistake as it caused to much confusion.
so in conclusion i predict WHO to be big but due to brand name beware of DDO, but for concepts to revoltionise mmorpg check out darkfall, and one i didnt mention trials of ascension has some interesting ideas
im getting sick and tired of medieval fantasy type mmo's... i like it, but try eating chocolate for a whole week and lets see what happens. Im getting fed up... ive spent 6 years playing these tpes of games.. i want a new genre, GUNDAM GUNDAM GUNDAM... or those post apocalyptic typos... otherwise im not venturing into these fantasy medieval type games....
The next big mmorpg is Huxley. The Huxley beta is out now. Don't remember the website where I got it from. But it's quite fun experiencing the visual graphics, the people you talk to, the armor and weapons/ammunition that you can buy from the merchant store. It's quite unusal when you're attacked by an alien who seems to be a lot stronger than you are when you're playing as a level 1 character with no armor, but a piece of crap weapon that doesn't do much damage. WTF!!!
I think Starwars Galaxies will be the next best think as soon as SOE gets out and they can make it back to the pre-cu it was the best online game made as of yet i would drop wow the day it starts pre-cu

A lot of people are starting to get me hyped for Warhammer.
--- The more and more I read about it, the more I'm liking this game. I'm a huge Warhammer lore fan, and fan of Dawn of War.

I think that the next biggest game will be Flyff. Its one of the best games i have ever played. Which i never played many other good mmorpgs. But flyff is awsome. I would like to try WoW but its monthly fee which i cant do so. Flyff is free and awsome. I dont see why some people gave it a bad review. They say it takes forever to level. But if you play then you level fast. I know some level 80+ people that level everyday. And its said to be very hard at that level. I level on avg. of 2-3 levels a day now and i have one of the hardest jobs to level merc. Also this week is the upcoming "big update" which i cant wait for because its new job class! YAY!!
planescape is one of the best most versitile and well defined game areas in existance. there is so much that can be done with it, it's scary! the exploration, group co-op tactics, and character building has tremendous potential... not to mention crafting and merchant affairs...
plus the dnd pnp system is solid and very balanced as a whole when not made like ddo...
not to mention that planescape: torment was an incredible game!
WoW is definatly not worth the money for the game, I am a 60 Paladin Dwarf on Cenarius and it has been a harsh and dull road to 60 ontop of the fact that end game involves nothing but a Big glass of soda and a big bag of chips and constant battle with your guildmates over DKP and epic gear, you have to attend 10 raids for one piece of armor in which you'll replace if you have the time. And the community is dull complete solo game, you can get to 60 soloing easily so if you like social games WoW is definatly not a game to play...The guilds are nice with a tabard effect but. And PvP is alright but its instance now, so world PvP is scarce which sucks...WoW gets no credit from me after playing it 2+ years (or technically since release date)....
Although I just canceled my WoW account, I don't think anything that we have heard about yet will be the next BIG mmorpg.
Conan, Warhammer Online, Vangard, etc. will be good, but won't bring in cousin Vinnie that never would play a MMO before.
WoW was a groundbreaker. It just couldn't continue to be all things to all people. I bet it still hits 7 million plus subrscribers before it starts to fall. Don't expect a WoW buster anytime in the next year or two.
Holy crap man i got to say after looking at Cabal online starter vid the game looks bloody fabulous the fightin looks spectacular. i hope it becomes a free 2 play mmo with the online shop instead of the P2P.....
btw can anyone mail me any new mmorpgs that are comin out soon that are gonna be free cus i have been lookin for a great mmo for ages and i have played a ton load of mmorpgs and i still cant find the best mmo.
someone go find me a good mmo to play cus i have been lookin for ages =D
May you get to Heaven an hour before the Devil knows you're dead

I'll make you sad. You won't find the best. Never. I tried that and what I see is that always must to make compromise's.
I believe that "Dreamlords" might be an interesting game. Maybe not the next big hit in the WoW class but still a new and inovative game that tries to bring the genre forwardl ^_^
