Activities in the End-Game?

Hey all, I just returned to FFXI but I remembered there's one thing on my mind that concerns me:

What sort of things are there to do in the high-end game? I understand that one can level up another job and whatnot, but for someone who would prefer to just level up my one job and it's sub and not worry about any others, what sorts of things will be there to entertain me as I, and once I, reach the top?

I just want to make sure my experience will be fairly exciting as opposed to getting my jedi in SWG and just experiencing the same-old same-old ^^

A variety of things. Please note that I'm not in the end-game myself so I'm just passing along what I've heard; certainly incomplete and possibly inaccurate in spots.

Ballista: While you can start doing Ballista as early as your late 20s thanks to a graduated series of level caps, there is full-out uncapped Ballista for those at the top.

Sky: Very hard HNMs to camp out and kill

Dynamis: This is the really interesting one, IMHO. Massive instanced dungeons (run in alternate reality versions of the main nations filled with high-level beastmen). Up to 64 people can enter an instance and generally that's how many you run with, all in their 70s, and Dynamis can *still* easily kill you all if you screw up. Big drops are relic weapons (which you have to progressively upgrade; initially worthless, fully upgraded relics are incredibly powerful and very hard to achieve; you can probably count the total number of fully upgraded relic weapons of all types on any one server on your fingers (or at least your fingers and your toes)) and second-tier AF armor.

  • there is alot to do endgame

Merits: Once you hit the level cap you can gather merit points like you would xp and upgrade raw stats. and some job abilities. For instance a paladin can improve his enmity which will help him hold hate no matter what tanking job he plays. or a warrior can improve his double attack job trait and any job he plays with a warrior subjob will have an enhanced chance to use double attack.

Sky: As said you go with a large amount of people and kill the god HNM for great drops

Missions: Zilart to be specific. The later Zilart missions after 13 require 70+ players and you can get to incredible areas such as Al'teiu (a heaven sort of place.) you can go to the moon, to the sea (very few ppl actually go to the sea since alot of the monsters are incredibly tough.)

Ground HNM fights: There are some massive fights on the ground, like the elder dragons, Tiamat, Nidhogg, and more.

Dynamis: As said these hold many legendary items. you can get your job's second level of artifact armor and the epic weapons. The epic weapons, the previous poster did a bit of an over-estimation. The number of fully upgraded weapons in the world for any given class between all the servers can be counted on one hand. Ninja, one of the most widely played jobs, only has 2 fully upgraded epic weapons in the world.

Sea is a completely different mission set.

Zilart: The "sky" portion of the endgame. It involves doing Zilart Missions 1-13 to gain access to the area labelled as "sky" 1) for there to be understanding between all players and 2) because it is literally above the rest of world. In sky you fight normal pop NMs, actually i believe they pop a bit faster, to get item to pop the smaller gods (Genbu Byakko Suzaku Seiryu which in Japanese myth protected a city, i think edo, from attack. One was stationed at each gate North South East West.) After deafeating the god you will receive different items varying from weapons/armor to high value items and the abjuration items. These items are used to uncurse certain cursed armors so you can wear them. After collecting a seal from each god, you trade them together to another ??? to pop Kirin, the big god. I believe he is actually Chinese mythology, dont quote me on that though ;p

Promathia: These are the "sea" missions. YOu complete, mostly level capped, missions to progress further in the story. It involves traveling to a lnad long thought lost in the war that had taken place many years before the time frame of the game. You receive different missions from the people from this lost city and from people on the "mainland." After about mission 8-3 (the missions are split into chapters, 1-8 or 9, each with a few missions to complete which could be killing a monster or getting cutscenes done.) After 8-3 you gain access to sea, and despite what ahs been said, everyone wants to go there 1) because its new 2) because there are new "gods" to fight, and 3) because Black Mages PTs can absolutely r*pe the stuff there getting experience chains over 300 (normal chains are maybe 5-6 with Monk parties getting anywhere from 20-100 on a regular basis).

Dynamis: This is what the world would be like if the beastmen had won the Great War. This has beastmen grouped into "statues" that summon them to aid. They can summon anywhere from 0 to 4 more statues and then each of those statues spawns 3 to 4 each... Even with everyone at 75, you can expect to die. The goal is to defeat a couple mini-bosses to pop a main boss in each area. Kill the main boss and click a ??? to get a key item. Collect all the key items and you can head to over dynamis areas. In the last area you fight an old enemy revamped to be 100x more powerful (if not 1000x) and the completion of the main story line (for the most part).

As far as relic weapons go, tehre is a site somewhere (I can find the link later) that has many unlocked relic weapons. Id say there are 10 or a little more than 10.

Then there is meritting, exping but earning merit points to upgrade stats and skills. HNM/NM camping (on the "ground") which drop different items that are unattainable in sky or sea. AND there is another new expansion coming out later this year or early next year.

    Edit: new content

    PANDEMONIUM

    Tokitoki -- Rank 10

    75THF/37NIN - Meriting -
    69WAR/34NIN - Leveling -
    Bonecraft 68+2

FFxi actually is all about the end game, the lvling before it has nothing to do with what this game offers you as end game material. Although you will most likely lvl up another character or even more likely another job with your main character, you'll probably pass most of your time, if you manage to get in a end game linkshell, a good one, camping what people call hnms and gods. So yeah you're gonna keep going to bed very late because of mobs' wondows and also pretty much wake up early sometimes. The end game is pretty much where you will hit the bottom in terms of everything that is not ff, since there is so much to do ... so yeah, be careful. But yeah, the end game is totally worth it, with so much opportunities and stuff to do.

P.S. as for dynamis, dont look forward too much for that, it gets old very fast.

Hope you enjoy the end game when you get there.
