Click the link in the stick post to get your 2 week free trial key at try the game for yourself, only way to know if you like it or not. Of course, you probably won't get into a serious corporation if your on a trial account but, if you like the game playing through the first few steps, I can tell you now, it only gets better. So, it won't cost you anything, I urge you to try it out.

    Try a free trial
I like EVE well enough to keep a subscription but it's not going to wind up as my primary game. I'll probably wind up leaving eventually.

Don't get me wrong. It's a great game... just not my style most of the time. I play it as a change of pace game. I tried to make it my primary MMO and wound up dreading logging in.

If you're not finding the game enjoyable, I suggest doing something else while playing the game. EVE is not the kind of game that requires constant attention and it's easy to get bored sitting there watching your ship warp to and fro and waiting to dock. However, it's a game that requires thinking rather than mashing keys repeatedly. It's a good trade-off because now I can chat with my friends and even do homework while I get something accomplished in EVE Online.

first of all, thing u should know is htat eve devaiates alot from the traditional concepts of mmorpg..

so many will luve it n many will hate it(these ppl dont know what they're missing)

it doesn have a "experience level"...instead u have different skills which u can train...

this skill sytem trains even if u r offline(which is totally kewl...)

The game is very simple yet complicated...

There are so many things u can do or u can b'cum....

mining, trading, fighting, helping, allianncing.,etc etc, etc...

So just sit down...try the game...n get engaged.....

Like i hear some say.. you better try the game instead :)

This game is a little of "Elite" (old game from Amiga 500) and Earth and beyond tho Earth and beyond was more carbear gaming... EvE is more advanced. There is a steep learning curve.

If you play a trial account you wont be able to join a good corporation. But if you decide to play the game for real. Send me a message ingame, my charname is: Blood good. My corp is looking for both old and new players. a bunch of nice people. The name of the corp is Star control.
    See you ingame :)

    Visit http://www.freewebs.com/starcontrol/ for more info.

Yup I LOVE the depth of the game and the level of thought you have to put into it. My problem with it is pretty basic:

If I have to find something else to do to pass the time while I'm playing a game (which is supposed to be what I'm doing to pass the time) there's a flaw there :) I love depth to a game and having to think about what I'm doing. I don't love immense time sinks that have me sitting around finding "something else to do" while I'm waiting for "something to happen".

I really want to get to the 'end game' in EVE and enjoy the PVP side because I Think that's where the game will truely excel.... getting there is a mind numbingly time intensive act though. People say "oh it only takes 6 months" and I'm like "6 months of watching TV or reading a book while I'm playing a game?" I play my games to be entertained not to find something else to do.

Like I said... great game... but certainly not for everyone. There's a free trial, use it. In the 14 days you get you should be able to decide if it's the game for you or if you want to play it as a 2nd game or if you don't like it at all. Personally my account will remain active and I'll play it as a tertiary game. It's not something I find 'entertaining' to play but it is certainly very challenging and very thought provoking. But it's not something I want to hop on when I'm tired or bored :)

I've never seen any other MMORPG that will get my heart racing from time to time like Eve. Nothin says fun like running through a blockaid for 4 systems in a Maller with 20 mil worth of loot only to get down to hull and still survive.  At the same time, there are points when you look back on the week and wonder what you really did to accomplish anything.

Ultimately, the thing I love about this game is that virtually every goal you set can be reached with patience and a bit of thinking.  I have 2 characters, one for PvP, and one as a Miner/Mission runner.   You can have one for both and achieve the same thing, but I chose to separate them since it offered me the chance to be in two corps.  The key though is to never do only one thing as it will burn you out, just like on any game.  Mix it up, because you certainly can in this game.

I think the best reason why this is the game for almost anyone is the devotion the devs have.  I've never seen the enthusiasm to excel like the devs in Eve have.  This is there one and only baby, they benifit just as much as you to see it succeed, and they get really excited about accomplishing their goals, just as I do about mine.  They all play the game and are very attentive to the needs of the game.  While not everything goes over well with players, they devs work constantly to find that middle ground.

For the money, I think it's the best game out there.  So if you truely have the patience, then this game has the promise of being the game for you.  Try it out, it's free to start.

The good thing about eve is that is does not force you down one particluar career path. If you get bored being a miner (that won't take long). You can try out other professions.

  • BloodgoodBloodgood Member Posts: 76

Exactly, If you get tired of mining you can try something else. Ship, equipment or weapon builder. Do missions for other corporations both NPC and PC. You can go for piracy or hunt pirates. The last thing is very hard if you dont have the right equipment and sometimes the right people at your side when the heat goes up.

Just remember the 1 key to EVE:
    Patience
The game has multiple layers of time sinks involved. Skills are time gated... no matter how much or how often you play your skills will only go up at their fixed rate. So playing 20 hours a day will get you RICH but it won't get you any more powerful (other than in what ships or equipment you can afford (but not necessarily use)) than someone who plays 2 hours a day. To me this is a good and a bad thing. It's good in that everyone is on a fairly level playing field. It's bad in that new people to the game have to wait longer and longer and longer (as time goes by) to become viable in PVP.

The other aspect is money.... you gotta be able to earn cash to afford PVP (or pretty much anything else really!!!!)

Patience is the biggest key to enjoying EVE. Personally I can only stand it for a couple hours a week. Thankfully most of my skills are at the point where I just hop on to switch them and hop off. I'm on the verge of cancelling, however. I just can't see paying a monthly fee for a game that I have to find something to entertain me while I'm playing.

EVE's biggest strength is how realistic it is.
EVE's biggeest weaknes: How realistic it is. :)

It's not so much a game as a way of life.

The quickest way to get into the PvP side while avoiding the grind is to join a corp. If you haven't already done so then I recommend contacting these guys:

    Mom 'n' Pop Ammo Shoppe

These guys operate in an area of 0.0 space that is neutral safe (you don't get insta ganked). Futhermore, they are very good at introducing PvP to new players while at the same time breaking down a lot of the misconceptions of how EVE should be played. They also have a lot of contacts with other corporations in case they aren't your cup of tea.

Truth be told, it only takes 2 weeks to be PvP capable. The 6 month mark is really the point where you are capable of taking on any veteran in a 1v1 match. This is due to the negelible benefit of the veteran's skill over a 6 month old player and where tactics and equipment becomes the determining factor in a 1v1 PvP.

But the fact is that you should never be conducting 1v1 PvP until you are pvp experience (not in-game skill). When you are in a corp, 90% of pvp will be done in fleets or squads. Therefore there is always a role for a 2 week old character to provide tackeling or electronic warefare support. At 1 month, you should be able to provide fire-support and anti-frigate/cruiser support; and at 2-3 months you should be able to fly a battleship and provide direct firepower.

Edit: Sometimes images (and videos) are more powerful than words. This video is of a combine fleet op where a 6-day old character and a 22-day old character played the most critical role of this engagement. Their job was get on top of the two sniping battleship and warp-scramble and hold them still while the main fleet got into position to destroy the snipers. This was the first night of PvP for the 6-day character and he was credited for being instrumental in delaying the Megathron long enough for the main fleet to arrive. The video is from the main fleet point of view, but you can hear the tackeling frigates on Team Speak.

If you want to step up the pace, join an alliance that is at war! Nothing like a full on conflict to get the blood going.

    Or become an Merc.

There is plenty of fast paced energy if you want it.
