The following was picked out from the updated DnL FAQ by Bacelius from DnL official forums:

Q. Will you still implement hunger management?

Yes, it will have an impact on a characters’ recovery rate.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Can we “forget” our character class and take another one?

DnL has a system that allows you to test your fighting orientation among 4 choices : Fighter, Caster, Healer and Hunter. During that time, you can change your career at will. However, once you make your final choice, there is no turning back. Same goes for class choice in each of these axies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will there be different skills, different spells, different leveling costs, different maximal levels, etc? If there is a difference, what are the affected classes?

Humans and Half Elves will level faster, but their level will be restricted on some of their skills, Necromancer for instance. At higher levels, they will have to run a quest in order to gain higher levels. Other races won't have to do this.

Shadow Knights and Paladins will also have restrictions on some of their skills.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Since Druids are “neutral” by tradition, will they have specificities concerning Dark or Light mana use? Or something else that would show their “neutral” status?

Being neutral in DnL doesn’t apply to magic, but to relations with gods. Druids will therefore be close to Neutra. You will see powerful druids that use Dark or Light magic.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. To what extent will you be able to alter the skill/spell trees?

Skill and spell trees have entirely been reconsidered in order to make further balancing easier. They will be much more flexible regarding the access to new spells in a given skill. These spells can easily fix unbalances that may show up compared to other classes. In general, removing abilities is very tricky, from a players point of view. Adding abilities to balance things out is better.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. What is the best way to obtain new levels? Playing solo or in full team?

It is very difficult to answer this question now. We aim at making you stronger when you work as a team. However, as it is often the case, some players’ ability with mouse and keyboard, especially with some classes, will allow them to use their character skills at best, and they may be more efficient as a solo character.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will warriors have abilities to create and control monster aggro?

Absolutely, you will have the ability to taunt in DnL.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. We know that only priests and necromancers will have the ability to heal and revive pets. But will we have a specific class for characters who have a strong bind with nature (I’m thinking about hunters and related classes), so that they can heal their pets by themselves?

Generally speaking, all healers can heal. The last class change now has 4 healers: Cleric, Druid, Monk and Enchanter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. I read somewhere that we will be able to control PC or NPCs. Will it be possible to make them commit suicide?

You will not be able to control NPCs in DnL at the time of the initial release. Therefore, you will not be able to ask them to commit suicide. Only GMs can control NPCs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will we be able to create our own spells and potions when we reached a specific level?

Yes, this will be part of high level research spells. The spells created that way will only be available in a limited number of uses, and you will have to make a quest to earn more.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Concerning rangers/thieves/spies/bounty hunters : can they enter an enemy territory without being spotted by characters, NPCs, traders of guards, and play their role as a spy or scout, acting like a normal trader or citizen?

Changing your look is a skill. But for each new person you meet, you will have to calculate in respect to the chances of failure.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Can a high level thief look like someone from the opposite alignment?

Absolutely, and an assassin can do the same in order to sneak in and kill people. Disguise abilities will be powerful in DnL; you can even look like a specific monster if you have the proper skills.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. What kind of power can we expect?

Some items will have integrated spells. Every time you use that item, you have a percentage of chances that the power is activated. For instance, depending on this percentage, a sword can do fire damage every X [time] during a fight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will there be clothes (robes, shirts, trousers, hats) that have no impact on the armour class?

Yes, in order to survive in cold or hot areas for instance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Can you use items to make people believe you belong to the other alignment?

This ability mostly depends on a skill. There are items that grant you this ability as well, but with a limited number of uses.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Is there an “unconscious” state before you die?

No, we have a coma state that allows resurrection. A state of advanced decay, or disintegration, doesn’t allow this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. How will villages be placed in DnL, and according to what pattern?

Some screen shots have been made in order to be added to some Race descriptions for the website. They do not show actual villages of Dark and Light. Every village is created manually with in-game integration tools. There will be one central village per barony, in addition to starter villages for each race.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will we have a lot of “epic” or “legendary” monsters, and real challenges against these monsters (besides events)?

That’s a trick question, because I know the purists don’t like the idea of farming epic monsters that drop the best items in the game. However, we cannot escape the fact that we will have to include legendary monsters, that will be a real challenge for teams of organized players.

We are still working together with AD in order to find the solution that will bring satisfaction to most.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Can we get close to most wild animals without having to kill them because they attack us?

Provided you have the required skills, yes. But it won’t work for all animals. You will see that for yourself.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. When a stranger enters our forest to destroy the place, can we rely on animals to assist and defend with us?

Some classes can control some NPCs for a limited amount of time, and make them fight an enemy. This won’t be massive crowd control however. Let me remind you that you can control 3 pets at most.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. What are the specificities of “necromantic” zones?

These zones are plagued with the un-dead, and will be especially dangerous for some classes. Other classes, such as Cleric and Paladin, will be a great help when someone has to travel through one of these zones.

Necromancers and Shadow Knights will walk through these places unharmed, using some of their skills.

The biggest zones are usually located at kingdom borders, places where epic battles took place, where many warriors died. Ganareth still hasn’t recovered from these slaughters.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. What about siege engines? Who will be able to use them? How can we move them?

Engineers will make siege engines. They will be rather expensive and will have to be constructed near a fortress before attacking it. They will have limited movement options, and will move very slowly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Can we buy components from NPCs?

Yes, but only some of them. Generally speaking, you will only find low or medium quality components there. High quality and exceptional quality components will have to be purchased using the player trading places.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will a magician with a high level in crafting be able to craft items with powers related to his/her progression, or is the crafting level the only thing that matters when you want to grant an item with special properties?

You have to make the difference between the crafting level and the combat level. Some items will require a “stone of power” that can then be “loaded” by a fighting class, especially a caster or healer class. Then, any player that uses this stone and a crafting formula will be able to craft the item, provided they have enough crafting skill.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. What is the effect of AOE (area of effect) spells on people that belong to the same alignment as the caster?

The only spells that can have an impact on them are the spells that benefit them. For now, there is no penalty concerning attack spells. Our principle is that somebody cannot have negative actions on someone belonging to the same alignment.

I know that some have offered solutions that did not kill people, solutions that would just lower their characteristics for some time. For now, this solution hasn’t been accepted.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will spells and other distance attacks be auto-aimed, or will they shoot straight?

Attacks on targets will be auto-aimed; attacks on the ground will shoot straight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will it be possible to kill several enemies at the same time?

Yes, especially for melee fighters and spell casters that can use AOE (area of effect) attacks at higher levels.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. What is the influence of damage on a character’s combat abilities?

Some types of damage can temporarily lower character statistics.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. When you get wounded, are you still as efficient as a healthy character, or do you lose dexterity/swiftness/concentration…?

These characters are like super heroes that can fight to the best of their abilities until their last breath, therefore it won’t happen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Is there a cap to the number of spells you can learn?

Characters have a memory bar that allows them to cast spells in this memory bar faster. The shortcut bar can also be linked to other spells, but the casting time will be longer, because of the additional time to memorize the spell.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. How is PvE in DnL?

PvE, like in many MMORPGs, has a rather classic form. However, we worked a lot on monster AI, and they know how to set traps and disarm your own traps. According to their level of intelligence, each monster makes decisions in order to make the best use of spells and special attacks they have at their disposal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Besides “hunting” (which is in fact monster bashing with a better-looking name), what can you do if you love PvE?

Some career paths, especially for explorers, will require real player skills in order to find rare items while making sure monsters don’t attack you. The aim is to avoid being killed, rather than to kill.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. It has been said that worshiping different gods would have an influence on PvP fights. For instance, I’m a priest, I worship a god, and I make friends with someone who worships an enemy god. Will it be harder for me to be his/her friend?

We will not take the difficulty of playing with someone else into account. However, if you do that, your divine faction may suffer from it. You also have to know that this can be a good way of leveling while changing your divine faction value, if you want to start quests that have some of these divine faction requirements. But obviously, if your divine faction is too low, your god will less frequently come and help you (luck and divine protection). If you want to fix this, you may have to kill monsters that are related to the enemy god, in order to get your faction value back.

Generally speaking, I think that people will quickly understand that Necromancers and Paladins walking side by side is a strange sight. Our divine faction system will act as a reminder if needed.

Q. "On the 33rd day of the year 6866, Vuuar decided to concentrate on Dark crystals, out of which he obtained the best results. In his opinion, Dark crystals were more appropriate to a magic based on Necromancy." This is what we can read in the Ganheptameron. What difference does it make for a Necromancer if it belongs to the Light side (or Dark side, in the case of Enchanters)?²

Vuuar could drain energy from Dark crystals better, but it has no relation with the fact that he was a Necromancer. Same goes for Elliak on the Light side.

The fact that he was a Dark Elf Necromancer allowed him to focus his research on some specific aspects rather than on others. With the enhancement of the crystals, it was found that people on Ganareth are born with a natural tendency to either magic system.

Only two races are known for having tendencies towards Dark magic: Dark Elves and Half Orcs. Only two races are born with a tendency towards Light magic: High Elves and Braves. The other races are more or less inclined towards one type of magic.

However, only Humans and Half Elves are versatile enough to become Necromancers, even if they are Light: Necromancy bears a strong Dark influence, which makes it more difficult for Light characters to access, although not impossible, at least for both these races.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. How does law and order apply in Al-Drifa, concerning the impossibility to kill anyone? Is it forbidden, or impossible?

In the beginning, Al-Drifa (who founded the city that bears his name) discovered the secret of the Dragon Weed, a powerful drug Dragons are addicted to. Al-Drifa traded this discovery with Dragons, in exchange for a non-aggression pact with Dragons, in all cities that bear his mark. Even as the war was raging on, these cities and villages were peaceful havens for traders. In order to ensure this fragile peace treaty would last, Al-Drifa decided that mounts of any kind would be forbidden in these cities, and that all weapons would have to be left outside upon entering… He even succeeded in building a special mana tower that used the same number of Dark and Light crystals, in order to block any form of magic in these places… After his sudden and unexplained disappearance, the towers remained and seem to emit a permanent protection field, although nobody has fueled them for a long time. Some even say these towers seem linked to each other through strange powers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Can Druids of Neutra heal or attack Dark and Light characters without any distinction?

Be careful not to mix divine alignment (Neutra) and Dark or Light magic. Gods are the same for Dark and Light alignments. Generally speaking, a Light character can only heal Light people, and a Dark character can only heal Dark people.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will there be lesser divinities? If so, can we see pacifist movements related to one of these divinities?

There are 9 gods, and you will have to choose one depending on your race/class combination. There will be no lesser divinities.
