Quite an interesting concept, don't you think? :)

No matter ones opinion on PvP, the proposed system is very unique and will further set SoR apart from the rest of mmorpg's. How well/if it will work, is another question.

So when fighting for an outpost you aren't actually fighting other players but hoardes of NPC's? But you can fight the opposing guild elsewhere?

    I'm confused.

It's not made clear if they mean the defending team can attack at the same time as the NPCs or just heal but it seems that way considering both guilds become PvP anywhere in the world. So winning conditions are based on the NPCs but oppossition comes from both PC and NPCs? I think that's right :)

Yes, that seems the case. The article mentions that the area sorrounding the outpost will be an open pvp zone (pvp for all players, not only the guilds at war), while the fighting guilds will enter a pvp mode covering the whole of Atys. If I have understood it correctly... :)

I think I'll withhold judgement on it till I can see it in action. I think that it's kind of like the castles in DAOC where there are NPC 'guards" that spawn that the badguys gotta kill before they can capture the outpost. It sounds like the players can help defend as well. It sounds like they're forcing a "siege" type setup where the attackers can't just come in in one night, kill the NPC's and take over. But have to kill the NPC's then defend their attacking army, then kill the next wave of defenders then help their next wave of attackers.

Hopefully I'm right because that sounds like a very cool concept. I just wish whoever wrote the explanation for them had done a better job of making it clear :) LOL

Nah, read through the document once again and you will see that the concept is both PvNPC and PvP. The both guilds at war will be in open pvp-mode throughout the whole Atys. Doesnt get much more PvP than that :)

The outcome from the battle of the outposts will be determined from PvNPC kills, but PvP will play a major role in achieving those kills.

sounds pretty silly.. id rather charge at the players to take over the tower.. not beoutside fighting in open space while npcs fight for it?!!??!

Actually the way I read it is they fight NPC's AND players when attacking a outpost (same as in DAOC folks). The big differenc is that the outcome of the attack isn't determined in just one fight it's a series of attack and defense 'waves'.

Interesting idea. Unfortunately I chose not to buy the game (I listed why in my thread) so I'll never get to see it in action.

Yes, extactly. Obviously, the players wont stand and watch npc's fighting over the outposts and wait for the outcome. As a player, you would have to kill of the challengers npc's, but, to be able to do that, you may have to go for the players first, and vise versa ofc.
