Magic Hat Spamming For Beta Testers

Has anyone else been spammed to test out Irth? I had never really given it much attention before and almost didn't see the email invite.

Even though I hate SPAM I checked their site, skimmed the hype comments here and even read some Irth related threads. Looks like it is going to be a big dud to me.

I disagree. I think many people will appreciate the fact that this isn't a class based game. In fact I have been stuck with UO until now because UO was the only game I had known where you could choose and pick individual skills for your chars. I hate UO though because it's an item based game now, and I just don't have the desire to save up millions of gold so I can buy the items needed to actually be good at PVP, which is the only fun thing in UO.

Irth Online has an acual 3D engine like most newer games (UO only has 2D engines), and it has an open skill format. You gain skill from using the skill... not experience points from getting kills. Gaining skill from killing something is the most retarded way to determine when you gain a level I've ever seen. I mean, you kill a bunch of things with your sword or magery, then you choose to increase your stats for hiding? WTF! You weren't hiding when you killed things! You were using a sword or magery to kill it!

Anyways, the skill system is a major advantage that this game has. The 3D engine will definantly attract people from UO. The people from UO will bring 3 things... 1) crafters to trade items and gold with. 2) Role Players (the main focus of an RPG). and 3) PVPers, which is one of the most challenging parts of any RPG that actually has PVP.

I'm going to just throw this out though... I'm going to bet that EA will buy Irth Online secretly, and it will suddenly not make it past beta for unknown or lame reasons. They probably don't want any good open skill games to be on the market because they know that once one comes out they won't have any UO players anymore. They want to keep UO because it's cheap to develop for, cheap to maintain, and brings in a minimum of $10 a month from each account... and many many people have multiple accounts.

EA is responsible for UO becoming an item based game, which really killed the game for many people. So you better hope EA never buys any game YOU'RE playing... because as soon as they do, it'll go to crap.

They're using SPAM to get more players.  Apparently, the current crop of Beta testers weren't too impressed and have left Beta.  Maybe they should try to bribe people to play by offering a free copy of Dark and Light.  That might work, because after trying the Irth Beta, they'll end up playing that game anyways.
