Looking at the class sections of the official boards, the majority of posters seem to feel that their class of choice got borked by the CU. However, the posters at the EQ II boards are a generally whiney lot, so I'm not sure whether to take them seriously. I will say that on paper it looked like classes were getting nerfed pretty hard overall, whith the exception of a few specific classes. Anyone here have opinions on the CU?
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

hello, my first post. sadly lookin into getting a different mmorp. The update 13 nerfed my toons quite a bit but also showed how truly scatterbrain the dev team is. They have gone back and forth on what the goals for eq2 are that at one point you might be over joyed with how cool the game is then few months later they change it and all the sudden your uber charector sucks. I am not the ones pissing and moning about the nerfs, they have done this before in the begining. I just hate that you'll never know what the hell the game is gonna be like one day to the next. Also support sucks, they have this god like mentality that what they want is best and the players are lucky they made this game. I can solo fine, xp Ok. But the fun isn't really there anymore. Thanks to update 13 zones we had dominated and greyed out we have to fight all over again, or run like hell through to get to the cool stuff.
Well if anybody has any suggestions I am open to anything, these games are fun and are great for takin my mind of the stresses of my job.
Well I talked to a bunch of people tonight and the jury is in on the CU, very challenging and some people have to relearn their classes.
People who used to never die, died 6 and 7 times tonight but once you figure it out it's more challenging. Mobs do a ton more damage than they did, especially if they con white or yellow. You can forget about ever doing most heroic mobs if they are yellow now, unless you have a great group.
My fighter raced to level 7 tonight and I did find fights even at low levels far more challenging, I am up for it though and can't wait to continue upward. I think that it was too easy before and people who aren't really looking for a challenge will find combat daunting at first, but if you are flexible and try different things and use your head you will enjoy it even more than before.
If you're looking for something easy, check out World of Warcraft.
Mobs do the same amount of damage, mitigation wwas drsticly reduced for all classes (except fighter)
Why should players be forced to relearn their classes? after palying with them for many months.
Theres also the fact that ppl have lost many spells that they payed 6p+ for. No comment from SOE still on this issue.
Theres also the fact that healers can no longer solo, period, the healer classes are now strickly group oriented, ther heals do not stack anymore, the fury and warden heals were reduced to such a point werr groups now need 2 healers to do the job 1 healer was able to do before the CU.
This is SWG CU all over again, from what i have seen on the oficial forums, the game will be taking a subscription hit, a very big one at that.
All ur Mountain Dew is belong to me.
well im a level 50 healer a mystic to be exact and i can solo with out any problems. Yes its harder but its a damn site more satisfying. I even took on a blue heroic group of 5 mobs, yes they were 1 down arrow mobs but were listed as heroic, i had to run at 1 stage, as i had an add but still did it. Its all down to tactics and knowing what spells and counters to use. I for one think the combat update is a breath of fresh air for the game i was sick of seeing certain classes take on yellow to red heroics solo.
also DoF is great.
bah double post
For my Troubadour this was a giant love patch...
The upgrade is a very good thing.

Granted it added several different layers to playing the game so it is loads more challenging to play and that has upset lots of people but I think once people start playing and stop complaining they will see that it is actually really good. This is coming from a lv 50 that spend the better part of last night working on getting my shard back from Everfrost because I was mauled by a pack of wolves that were green prior to the upgrade.
A few points I want to make:
Gripe: Overall player damage and HP went down
Hmmm: Overall NPC damage and HP went down proportionately
Gripe: Heals are not as potent
Hmmm: NPCs no longer unload all their power at the start of battle negating the need for uber heals (unless you suck)
Gripe: Tanks cant hold agro
Hmmm: DPS ppl need to learn how to adjust their play so as to not scatter agro
Gripe: I can only solo up to even con mobs
Hmmm: Well duh
Gripe: I do not want to re learn my class
Hmmm: Did you actually enjoy how boring combat was prior to this? (1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 OH CRAP 4,1,2,3,1,2,3.)
Summary:
Group: Combat is now a little slower but once you learn the tanking patters of the 6 tank classes it will speed up. Trust me on this I was tanking a group and we were getting creamed until the DPS learned that it is ok to wait 30 seconds for me to build agro.
Solo: Aside from the color of the con there is no real difference. Remember that the con ranges are bigger now allowing for a greater range on either side of an even con. As such what was grey is not green and what was once really red might be orange and more than able to kill you read the consider window it will tell you if you can kill it, really it does.

As an inquisitor, I've been able to solo yellow creatures (Lvl 54 ^ or 4 lvl 54 2-down-arrows) without trouble. And I solo a lot faster than I used to pre-CU. The strategy just differed a lot (and I mean a lot).
Actually, since the CU, I'm using ALL my abilities. I root mobs, fear mobs, have to direct heal more (usually, a reactive and a debuff was enough for a mediocre group encounter). Many of my spells that were a bit useless (Vengeance, for example) are now essential in combat, others like Harrowing Inquest (that now drains mana) have become my new favorites.
Generally, if you give it a few days and try out different strategies, you'll see that healers are quite efficient soloers (and faster than they used to). What is not possible (and shouldn't be right from the beginning) is soloing Group encounters.
Currently playing:

Hia Deggial Your on the wrong server dude! Come play with me and Drfora on Najena instead
I'm sorry but this combat upgrade is amazing... The game's challange factor has inreased and it has made it a much more enjoyable experience! Take the time to actually play the CU then start complaining...
I couldn't agree more Anarchyart, as usual with you heheh.
EQ2 is more challenging now. I love the combat revamp. The only major complaint I've heard is that tanks are having a hard time tanking ^^^ mobs now, but that would just take some minor tweaking. I say give it a month and most, if not all of the minor imbalances will be ironed out.
FYI: Other complaints I've heard from ppl that i know bitch about every little thing anyways so i put no stock in their whining. the CR kicks ass.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
I haven't played the game in months. But how is combat now, if it is no longer hot keyed? Basically won't I be doing the same thing, or does it now require more than a trained monkey to survive combat?
I mean, cause all I used to do was 1,2,5,3,4,6,9,0 rinse and repeat, am I still going to do that?
So glad to hear so much positivity! I too found this to be the case and wonderful to hear everyone else who actually plays thinks the same.
Kem0sabe do you even play EQ2? You speak as though you do yet your facts would suggest otherwise. Just want to clarify lol are you playing the game right now?
Be a few days before you hear anything besides whining on this one lol it's too early for much other than that. I'll play for a couple hours tonight and hopefully have something of use to say.
Let me start by saying I'm not a whiner nor fanboy. I have played a shadowknight since release to level 50 and am a senior council officer in my guild. I play at least 4-6 hours a day 5 days a week due to being retired. I have only posted on the official forums 5 times and all of those were after LU13. The changes to my class are horrible and the 10 levels of cons mean as a 50 I can no longer make a solo run to the permafrost zone in to help guildies or make it through the first tunnel in lavastorm so, If I have to stand on the dock with a LFG tag on just to do the basics of exploration or to try to get to a group that needs to rotate out a member, I'm s***wed. Getting owned by mobs 10 levels below you due to adds, roots, stuns, interrupts and the like have taken the fun from me for good. My 50 sk with ebon armor has a defense rating of 35, two points lower than my level 22 guardian at 37 defense. The improved lifetap procs they promised didn't happen for me in the last 10 deaths since the update and two of my main HO progessors have now been changed to stances with nothing of value to replace them. DoF? don't know about it as the pre order from ebgames still has not arrived. If combat changes and nerfs to my chosen class stay then I will not. The strongest voice to the dev community is to vote with my dollars and cancel my two accounts. Thank you for your time.
I play it on and off, i´m playing mostly SWG right now, but as i have station pass, i log on to eq2 from time to time to have some RP fun in AB, altough i think the game has some problems and there some features i dont apreciate to much, i love the RP community in AB.
Havent tried DoF yet, dont think i will for a while since i dont play eq2 that much these days, but after trying my monk and my warden after the new patch, my personal belief is that theres still some major tweaking to be done, i agree that its all nice and good to make the game more difficult and chalenging, but i just cant agree with the changes done to tanks and healers, dunno how the other classes are doing. I hope SOE changes some things that were introduced, especialy because the game feels like a much bigger timesink now, leveling has been slowed significantly and that bothers me, leveling was never too fast to beging with.
All ur Mountain Dew is belong to me.
Yes, lets break everything that EQ2 has presented it's self as and call it more "challenging". This is the biggest screw up SOE has done to date, EQ2 has to be one of the most "MMO light" games ever made, and they just sniped it's testicles off completely.
This game is now about as much fun as starring at a wall. There is less then no-fun in this game now. If you want to see if Im a whiner just look up my older threads on here and see how Ive virulently defended how great EQ2 is. This has taken a casual, yet fun MMORPG and made it into a plush doll beating simulation.
In an effort to not start a flamewar, i will simply give my assessment as a 30 year veteran of rpgs and a 8 year addict to online RPGs. I played EQ2 from release with a short break for some WoW among others and i feel this is a big improvement.
Sony has made the game play more like an RPG and less like an MMO. There is a reason that the hightest population servers in the game are the RP servers. Because it is best suited to that mindset. The recent changes just adjust the system to remove the things that MMO fans tend to prefer and make things like the con system a bit more realistic. Should i really be able to solo blue heroic mobs? NO! and now i cant. Should a yellow solo mob kill me.. yes, probably more than half the time it should.. thats why its YELLOW! Nobody should be able zone in, point a clear vector across the zone.. hit autorun and go afk and expect to be at the otherside and alive. Now they cant. If you want to level everyday and be the BMOC this isnt for you.. if you want to solo or group and be required to use strategy and tactics to acheive greater results, then come join us. Yes, many of us who have high level characters are having to relearn our class and rethink strategy. But overall, the game plays well.
BTW, no, this isnt SOEs biggest screw up.. that was allowing players to be jedi in galaxies....
Thank you! Read this post anyone who is complaining about the CR, logic is your friend. Kemo please play a bit more before you decide anything good or bad. You can't kill things you aren't supposed to anymore through the logical extension of the con system. Also, you will have to learn your new skills and find out how old ones have changed in relation to how your character deals and takes damage and aggro.
Experienced players will have little problem re-adjusting to the combat revamp: maybe one night at most. Players who think MMORPG combat should consist of ordered button pressing will have an altogether harder time, but once they re-adjust exping is about the same speed as before as illustrated with clear mathematics in a previous post by Nihilanth AND play will be more exciting and rewarding.
Change is good. Challenge is BETTER.
All classes got weaker, yes, but so did the mobs. Besides it's only relative to how overpowered the classes were before.
My Paladin, for example, used to hit for 40-60 with regular auto-attack dmg, and a high of 300+ with his tasty Oath Strike. Now the auto-attack is closer to the 20-35 range, sometimes as high as 50, and Oath Strike got reduced to a high of about 100. Thing is, they have made buffs, debuffs, wards and heals so USEFUL now that it all works out the same. Can I do as much damage? No. Can I win the same fights I used to win before? Yes, mostly (except for Heroic mobs which are hard/impossible for soloers to kill now, and GOOD on that!).
Most of the whiners are the min-maxers, the people who look at a spell and see it does less damage than before, then freak out. They dont bother to take into account that it now is not a straight DD but a DD with a stun/knockdown component. Or that their DoT does less dmg but costs less power and gets resisted less. They just look at numbers, hop onto the forums and post "DAMAGE REDUCTION!!! EQ2 IS DOOMED!!!"
Personally, I see more people playing on my server now. More instances of the large overland zones, more people trying WILD stuff, dying, and laughing at it...not because there's no penalty, but because the fights are so frenzied, so nasty, with damage FLYING off the mobs and yourself...
EQ2 has just become a whoooole lot better.
Well when the CU first hit my biggest issue was as my main was an illusionist and they got changed big time, and i felt pretty lost. some major bugs with DoF and the new zoning sytem and some shards stuck behind invisible walls/zoning walls after being killed by an invisible shark and i was pretty sick and annoyed and haven't played for a few days since (time to cool down and keep things fun).
I dont really find the game more challenging, other than for soloing, but thats only for soloing yellow and above, which is what SOE said was going to happen anyway.
Before the bugs killed my fun on the day i mentioned earlier i was in a group of 5, levels ranging from 43-46, and we where killing level 52^^^ with ease in DoF, was quite fun, but hardly a challenge. we then went cliff diving into some shark infested waters off the north coast by the entrance to the pillar of flames we killed a few sharks and started swimming to an island, soon enough we all zoned to PoF, once there things just went really bad. trying to continue forwards often zoned you back, swimming back had you stuck agasint an invisble wall. it was just a nightmare and we all got seporated as we couldn't stay in the zone wen wanted to be in. so my only gripe really is the new zoning system thats just really bugged, especialy in the water north of PoF / SS only the PoF side though.
my minor gripe is that me and my wifes super duo illusionist/templar is no more, we used to be able to take the minor ^^ epics pre CU, now we can't hardly take a ^^ without a real fight. my power drains got hit pretty bad, wifes heals aint as good, and our healing HO doesn't hardly do anything anymore. we knew this nerf was coming though, as we where an overpowered duo and could easly kill heroic ^^ orange con mobs with jsut the two of us. it was really hard work though, and one slip of concentration and we both went down, but both aspects where part of our fun and what we enjoyed about our time on EQ2, now we're going to have to find our feet again, possibly moving onto new mains.
for the most part i do like the CU, but it has hit me and my wife pretty hard and the guild we're in does seem to have lost a few members since the CU...
The upgrade was enough for me to cancel finally again. My assassin just isn't fun anymore. Not going to really make comments on the CU. Because the only class I have played and want to play. Is my assassin, and for me the CU just killed. What I considered to be great class.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
Well having gone through the SWG CU I have to admit that I had certain concerns about the "CU" for EQ2.
However I've been playing for a few days with the new changes in place and I have to say that I really like them.
