What is the best PVP MMORPG game?

I just got out of 4 straight months of WOW, finally starting to get a little burned out. I found myself in need of better PVP game play, I'm sure it would not be hard to beat. I would like some recommendations of a very well rounded game, that offers a great PVP environment.

EVE Online has great PVP if you can stand the skill system.
WW2O is pretty fun from what I hear.
    ...You could always go GW.
Or you can wait until DnL, RV, or the others coming out in a few months.

Shadowbane is the only real PvP game on the market.

Everything else is RvR. Your forced to work with others that you cant PK in RvR.

EVE Online - awsome pvp, most statisfying to kill someone beacuse of the extreme loss system ::::07::::::02::

You know, this is and EXTREMLY biased thread, so i'll add to that image. DAoC all the way.

ahh EVE is allright but its still LVL untill your skills are high enough and then you can compete, if you want a game completely based on the skill lvl of the player and not the lvl he is check out Jumpgate.

Ok I take that back, EvE is another good PvP game. Tho it has way to much "faction" stuff in it, you can from a corp with other faction members, so that helps some. Plus, for a big price, you CAN pk anyone, anywhere, untill you cant go back to thoes zones...

EvE = Best SPACE PvP game.... best skill gain system..

Shadowbane = Best FANTASY PvP game... quickest leveling to endgame and fun...

Swords and Magic or Ships and lazers?

Actually, i have to go with WoW. because there iss a lot of freedom in movement during battle's, Skill takes a big part in the game. just my oppinnion, i found the pvp in EVE dull and boring.

I will agree on Shadowbane... it was the most fun PvP I've had. Well, at least in beta and early release before the horrible lag and sb.exe forced me to cancel. But City of Villains? How can anyone pick a game they've not even played?

Check out Pirates of the Burning Sea, links on this site. Beta signups just started.

I could not let this go by. Do Not do City of Villains for PvP.
The PvP system for PvP is completely borked.

1 vs 1 fights are not balanced at all. X class will always beat Y class.
The only time it might be considered balanced is when you play in large groups like 5 vs. 5.

Beta is going on right now, but you need to pre-order CoV to get. There is about 1 month before
    CoV ships. (Oct. 31, 2005)

I do not recommend it. The company nerfs characters each patch, so in the long run, your character doesnt feel like the character you signed up for. If you dont mind playing a different character each patch, then sure sign up for it. Otherwise, no, avoid it.

Hmm, I find myself to be in a similar position as the OP. I played WoW for 4 months. Not so much burned out, but it was my first MMOG and I had IRL reasons too(exams). So I went for a month holiday in the summer but came back to find nothing appealing (to me) in the MMO market.

I've tried many many betas. But nothing looks like it could come close to the appeal of WoW. Admittedly in my last few days of WoW, I felt PvP consisted of mindless Zerging. But reflecting on it now, it was actually a fun game to play and I havent played a game thats sucked me in so much for several years.

Played RYL, got sick of the grind in a few weeks.

I played GW, max levelled, went to FoW, UW (High lvl Dungeons). I PvP'ed with a guild for a while too, but got pretty bored after creating 2 max levelled characters. A good investment (Considering it was cheap in the shops).

So now I'm just beta testing various games. Waiting for the next big MMOG. City of Villians looks tempting, but I'm always reading bad comments about it. I'm not sure about DnL, but thats under beta testing aswell. I tried EvE out but got bored of it too easily. Not my type of game. EQ2 kept crashing my GFX card.

So right now I'd say any of the top 4 games on mmorpg.com have good PvP (Not 100% sure about CoH.)

EDIT: I'm really considering going back to WoW now, but I'm not sure.

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

I'm kind of surprised DAOC hasn't gotten more reccomendations, since it's well established now. But I have to agree that Eve takes the cake on PvP. ::::31::

First off CoV is still in BETA so of course there's gonna be pvp issues.  Second. I've played CoH since release and ever since the first update, not patch, I've heard nothing but complaining.  CoH needed all those nerfs so it wouldn't end up a "level in 2 days" game.  There's 3 types of tanks that are the most popular: stone, fire, and invuln.  A level 38 stone tank can fight a mob that's 10 levels higher. Fire tanks can take down a group of 50 mobs, and invuln tanks could round up over 100 and not get touched.

As for the best pvp game. Go with DAoC. DAoC has zerging but in a separate zone so those new to the game dont get killed by some high level idiot while trying to level up.

  • usefuluseful Member Posts: 85

Wow, I never mentioned anything at all about tanks. I was talking about PvP in City of Villains.
As I said, the PvP is City of Villains is so messed up and Im sticking to it.

PvP is City of Villains is eventually going to spill into City of Heroes.
And City of Heroes PvP is borked as well.

And with this, I am sticking with the Original Post. Avoid CoH and CoV for PvP.

Have to agree.  Even though I'm not a big P vs P player, Shadowbane was a fairly immersive game.  Cool characters, cool character creation, classes, and nice weapons and armor.  Was a good game design, perhaps plagued by technical issues early on.

I do think they need to periodically open a new server in SB, because starting new four years after release is going to put newbies at a serious disadvantage.
