What do you think about mmorpg?

Hello I am trying to find out what kind of mmorpg people like and what you like about it.

My opinion is that mmorpg’s are fun because you are capable of playing with allot of different people online, thus making the already fun rpg-genre even more fun.
The idea about being able to auction items and bartering items with other people is also great, because it adds a whole new dimension to the games, so now it is not only hack and slash.

I generally play all kinds of mmorpg’s, both fantasy and sci-fi, therefore I spend allot of time playing them (sadly I am down to 1-3 hours a day)

I hope to se further interest in mmorpg’s from people around the world, and I look forward to the mmorpg’s of the future.

Please help this Gnome wizard with his research ^_^

Why do you play mmorpg's? Or what do you like about mmorpg’s?

What kind of mmorpg genre do you like?

How many mmorpg games have or are you playing?

How many hours a day do you play mmorpg's?

Why do you think mmorpg's are growing even more popular?

Have you tried other mmo’s like mmofps and what do you think about them?

The community and competition of it all.

What kind of mmorpg genre do you like?

Fantasy but I can see myself moving more towards the sci-fi genre with some of the new games coming out.

How many mmorpg games have or are you playing?

I have basically played all the mmorpgs on game store shelves. So I have played all the more popular ones opposed to the lesser known. Currently I am playing EQ2 but I hope to find a new game soon.

How many hours a day do you play mmorpg's?

I used to play at least 3-4 hours a day but now with work, school, and girlfriend I rarely get to play at all.

Why do you think mmorpg's are growing even more popular?

I really don't know how to answer that but I guess I would say because games with internet content have gained much popularity.

Have you tried other mmo’s like mmofps and what do you think about them?

I have played Planet Side and I liked it at the time it was released but it got repetative pretty quick. Right now I am looking forward to the game Huxley which will be an MMOFPS released on PC and xbox360.

I have been a fan of RPG's since I tried Breath of Fire on the SNES not to mention that I did some pnp RPG's on the side.  I was introduced to UO around 2001 and it's non-linear and completely open format hooked me.  Plus I got my wife hooked, and it was cheap entertainment for poor college students compared to going to the movies or clubs every night.

I have no real preference.  As long as the storyline is immersive and the gameplay is enjoyable...I'll play it.

Currently I am only playing WoW.  I've played UO, EVE, Planetside, and Horizons.  And tried numerous trials for AC, AC2, EQ2, Saga of Ryzom, Endless Ages, and Rubies of Evertide.
How many hours a day do you play mmorpg's?
In college...I'd play as much as possible (my wife and I had no cable, so that was our entertainment).  Now I play between 30 minutes to 3 hours a day.  Work and our 16 month old son are far more important now.
Why do you think mmorpg's are growing even more popular?
The popularity of forums, blogs, and messengers has made people used to talking online.  Along with the inclusion of "overly simplified" MMO's (WoW) hitting the market, and giving people that have never played MMO's a simple, but enjoyable way to learn the genre.  I remember it took me one month to learn all the functions of UO and it was quite frustrating.  And probably a larger factor is that ISP's have made broadband internet very affordable and widespread.

MMOFPS's are enjoyable (I've played Planetside), but there has to be a story to continue to keep the players attention.  Otherwise playing any FPS that can play 32+ players is just as enjoyable.
