I would say you have not played in the past couple of years then.

But lets talk about grinding, what is 'the grind?' As I take it a grind is a repetative action done over and over to achieve a goal. It also has the conotation of being boring. I could contend that every aspect of an mmorpg is a 'grind.' People usually think some things are not because it has multiple steps to accomplish something and that will require moving.

Since WoW has combat and so does DAOC, then what I assume from people who complain about the grind on DAOC are simply saying you must kill over and over to level. That simply isn't true. You can if you want, but it is certainly not required.

Things to do in order to level besides kill in DAOC:

    1. Catacombs quests. Very easy quests where most can be done solo. These give great XP and can level quickly.

    2. New epic quests. These give good items and decent XP.

    3. Non- Cats quests. Depending on their age the items/XP vary greatly but you can still get XP for these and avoid 'the grind.'

    4. Battlegrounds. Starting at level 15 you will gain a huge amount of XP from killing players in other realms. You will also get realm points along them way which will help out in the front and in leveling.

    5. Coming soon Campion Level Quests: Another way to get XP.

So there you go, 5 ways starting Oct 11th to get XP other than sitting in one spot killing.

The ONLY thing WOW has over DAOC is graphics. I don't like the new graphics that DAOC put in. I much preferred the old graphics. They looked better to me. That said, however, that's the ONLY thing about WoW that could be argued is better. WoW may have *more* quests than DAOC but more isn't better in this case. WoW's quests are simplistic and far too easy.

DAOC is a much slower climb to high levels, especially if you don't grind at it steadily. But DAOC is soooo much fun, even early on you can get involved in meaningful *and fun* PVP which is *balanced* and earn realm points *and xp* which will help you to enhance your character later on.

I don't play DAOC anymore but I will definitely say that if I HAD to choose between WoW and DAOC I'd go with DAOC every single time.

The only reason DAoC graphics could be worse is if you are playing the 4 year old graphics version od DAOC and you have a real crappy graphics card.

WOW graphics are cartoons. Theres no intention to make them look real. DAoCS graphic are real cool. They are realistic and scary at times. Go look at the SS of the next expansion and get a new graphics card and then compare.

I think that DOAC still has the best PVP, but the game is still a grind that requires grouping and s very time consuming

Now it's we gotta stay in and continue the killing of poor innocent 3rd world poverty-stricken civilians in Iraq AND more US soldiers all because Iraq was ruled by an "evil" dictator. Hmmm, if we start a massive war over every country that has an evil dictator, then we'll be going to war with a lot of damn counties. Osama Bin Laden still wanders free however. Meanwhile, minimum wage gets veto'd AGAIN by our hero Bush and in the US here, the poor get poorer, the rich get richer, and the working man goes further in debt... yet unbelievable, more then 55 million of us voted for this. Staggering idiocity.

    /agreed.

But America's time is comming just like ever other great Nation that ever walked this earth and eventually crumbled.... Sad thing is that unlike most countries that didnt have a choice of thier leader that lead them to ruins we did.. So I guess one could say we brought it on ourselves.

As for WOW vs DAOC.. I think most have hit it on the head.. If your into PVP with a purpose behind it the DAOC is your choice if your into PVE and finding groups then WOW would be the place to go.. Personally I liked DAOC but just could never find a group (on the most populated server back then Merlin) and the graphics were not up to par for me.. Graphics dont make a game but they sure and the hell can help break it, And for me it was a turn off.

Catacombs destroys the pve grind, i find doing task dungeons fun, and i find doing adventure wings a REAL blast. My zerk and my sha bot, did those all time for levels, was fun. Never got bored and i missed alot of adventure wings because i was so busy trying to get stuff from the others =(. And I never did manage to beat the tomte prison one at lower levels. All well...

But ya, catacombs imho is what makes daoc actually playable. It's alot easier, faster, and fun then grinding off some random mobs in the world =P. And the aurulite gear you get is enough to get you all the way to 50, which is ALOT harder otherwise, especially since money earned is never as much as the prices for non-stat gear.

Overall its really worth it. Play daoc trial, get to level 5(1-5 is HORRRIBLE without cata), then choose your class play to 7, if you like the system, how combat works etc, not just the grind or hard enemies. Then stop playing. And buy the epic edition.

A year ago the graphics in DAoC were pretty bad. Catacombs brought them up to par (at least if you dowload the "new towns" optional patch). The new servers have also brought back the low level grouping game. Now that no can "/level" anymore (on the new servers) you can get groups at any level. It's actually possible to play up a healer again without being PLed. The changes in the last few months have moved DAoC from "high end of average" to "slightly better than anything else out" in my mind. I'm not trying to claim that DAoC is leaps and bounds better than other MMORPGs out, there are still tons of areas where it could improve. But for me personally it's the overall best currently out.

It's nearly as fast paced as WoW, with more realistic graphics, better PvP, and better crafting (however the crafting still bites compared to SWG or EQ II I should note). The only thing that WoW has over it is that the classes are overall more powerfull and well rounded, it's easier to start playing than DAoC, and the system requirements for it to look decent are lower.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Having played WoW and DAOC extensively (before and after catacombs), I'll say this much: my 15 a month is going to DAOC. It's the best overall game I've found on the market. WoW was good, but it lacked class variety, meaningful PvP and high-end content. DAOC is way ahead of the competition in terms of overal gameplay. Some of the classes are really original and fun to play, but overall there's nothing different about DAOC compared to other games - there's just a lot right. It has room for improvements (really needed collision detection and balancing of the newer of classes), but I can't find anything better at the moment.

WoW, on the other hand, was a disappointment. I was looking for killer, balanced PvP - to really be immersed in a war-torn world - but i didn't find it. Obviously some people found something so more power to them. In my jaded opinion as a long time MMO'er, DAOC beats WoW pretty solidly.

WoW = over rated newbie MMORPG.

DAoC = More hardcore MMORPG for non-newbs with more fun.

In other words, DAoC is better.

I 100% agree with nightphantom. WoW is basically a professional
waste of time. On the other hand, DAoC is a professional
game for professional gamers. If anything......WoW is bad

Having played both games ALOT it's really simple:

    PvP:  Daoc > WOW

    Everything else:  WOW > Daoc
