I would like to play a football (American) MMO. I know it would be very hard to develop something like that but im sure that a creative team could pull it off if the money were there.
It's not really an MMO anything. Like Guild Wars sort of. Sure there's a lobby everyone can see eachother, but the games are up to 4 players max. Not massive anything. And if it were, it would be an mmorpg, since there's the character development. You learn something everyday!

Why is it that it's considered an MMO anyway? We've had ordinary multiplayer games for a decently long time now, heck we still have plenty. Shot Online is as much an MMO as Warhammer 40k Dawn of War is, actually Dawn of War supports more players that Shot Online does! I guess it's a bigger MMO :P
There's a Baseball MMO that was made by an indy company, and I believe is run by ESPN now. I can't remember the game now, but you get to take the role of any player on the field.
I don't know if this fits your needs but Monster Bowl is a browser based manager game where you have control of a team of fantasy creatures playing some kind of american football. It is funny to see your litte guys beat the crap out your enemy team in the java match viewer.
I belive sport MMO's or MMORPG's or anything like that are totaly pointless, i belive that most ppl who play MMO's ect. play them to escape from the real world, they don't wanna be brought back into it.
I doubt there could be possibly any MMO sporst. It just doesn't define that genre. You'd only be able to bring so many players in it, while the lobby might have thousands, doesn't that work for any other game like Diablo 2 and the like? Following that platofrm , Diablo 2 is a MMORPG.
I dsiagree i think there is a market i just think most developers are scared to go for a different market. Take an event like the superbowl or NCAA College football National Championship ever check the ratings out on the two sporting events??? They do pretty werll. A well made Sport MMO i believe would bring new business into the genre(see the editorial new blood) wich talks about ways to get new people into MMO's.
I think something done with Madden/NCAA playstyle but in MMORPG form would go over great with a new market. I know plenty of you dont like sports and dont like the madden games but theres obviously alot of people who do so i wouldnt be so quick to dismiss the chance that something like this might get made...

I believe shot online is the only one. It's not even really an mmorpg though.
