Isnt Icarus on a New Game? - Not starting a flame war

StanLee2StanLee2 Member Posts: 51

hey guys. I mean this honestly. I thought that production of FE was halted because they had been hired to produce some MMO with humans vs atlanteans.

I know Ive seen the site of the humans vs atlanteans...and it had icarus' name on it. Surely they cant produce two MMOs at once?

Just food for thought.

Iccarus made the engines and tools that the game is going to use; we have been asured that it will no impact on the production of Fallen Earth ::::01::

I sincerely hope you are true there, I really do.

However, seeing how World of Ca$hcraft( Warcraft ) has pretty much done a Micro$oft and pwned almost the entire MMO market in the US, if not the world, I am worried that other games are going to see this as too much of a threat, and think twice about their entry into the MMO market.

I have see too many games, that have gotten to the stage Fallen Earth is now, see the state of the market and decided to shelve their idea for typically an indefinite length of time... Duke Nukem anyone? image

World of Warcraft = the McDonalds of the MMORPG world.

Not sure why you hate on World of Warcraft so much, have you even played it? WoW does many, many things right. Fallen Earth would be wise to learn some lessons from it before releasing their game.

I do not hate World of Warcraft. In fact it is the game I am currently playing, as there is not much better out there at the moment. Sure it has faults, but it has a lot of redeaming features as well... like making Blizzard a ton of money each month. image

I was trying to point out that due to the extreme popularity that WoW enjoys, it might scare away potentional new games, fearing that the market is all taken over by the WoW juggernaught.

True, but maybe this could work in our favor? Perhaps developers taking a look at the MMO scene will see that WoW dominates the fantasy genre and will start producing alternate MMO settings such as cyberpunk and post-apoc... one can only hope.

See, and this is why we need to start recruiting. Get people who aren't too happy with whatever they're playing now interested in this. Some won't be, but many will. Many people interested here have played SWG before, so players of that will probably be interested. I think sinoth has the right idea, players who are sick of fantasy and see a new and innovative game will flock to it in droves.

I know a ton of people interested in this game, they just dont care enough to join the community yet, they hang back and just 'wait to see what happens with it' .

There isn't lots of people here because the small amount of info around, those of us who are here desperately want to be part of this game, a post-apocolyptic game, and its community.

But the "level down" from us lot, there are a lot of people interested in this game, but they aren't part of the church of followers of fallen earth yet, they're waiting for the recruitment pamphlet (translate: New website, further information)

Anyways, I know im bringing a good few people with me and will be probably starting up a roleplay community here.

I still play SWG because frankly its the only marginally decent mmorpg I can find. I've been casually spreading the word about Fallen Earth many times when other mmorpg discussions come up.

The reaction is always the same, "you're kidding me, a mmorpg set in a post-apocolyptic world..how cool." And when I mention the similiarities of Fallout, the old-school gamers demand more info :)

With the death of AC2 and the slow demise of SWG, im thinking there's a large audience out there just waiting for FE to succeed.

One can only hope that Icarus stays on task with Fallen Earth.  When I see things like this, I start having visions of Fallout 3 and Interplay.

Fallout 3 is in development under the new ownership of the series by Bethesda Softworks. Not sure if its announced, but I saw some posters and such at E3 2005 so I can only hope it'll happen.

I realize that Fallout 3 is being developed by Bethesda, unfortunately that doesn't mean it will come out any time soonimage Nor does it mean that it will live up to Fallout & Fallout 2 or even Fallout Tactics. sigh. Now  back to Fallen Earthimage
