I played SoR the day it came out. But after about a month of play I got tired of not seeing anyone around to party with. Also my computer was in bad shape so I lagged.
I'm sorry to have to ask a question that is constantly being asked.
How is the Community of SoR?
Is the GamePlay Fun? Meaning, is this more of a Solo or Group game?
What is the Difficulty now that the patches have been released?
This is a bit of a off question but would u play WoW or SoR? (Sorry I play WoW atm and there is nothing to do but stupid Molten Core Raids)
and my last question give this game a rating from 1 to 10.
Thank You to any who post on this thread.

This game, imo, lacks in two major areas:
1) Playerbase... the game feels empty.. especially for newbies.
2) Soloability. While I DO love to group I don't always have time. And SoR's combat system makes it very time consuming to solo. I much prefer a game that has a better balance between group and solo play.
Other than that I really liked Ryzom

Lack of people is why i didnt continue after my trial, only saw one other person on the island, then one other person on the mainland, totally deserted. I wanna try it again, but people is what makes MMO's even viable, let alone playable for me.
Ignore the lack of people on the refugee lands, they're just a holding area.
Which race did you pick, which land did you go to and which timezone are you in?

I chose homin i think, the most human looking race.
After island, getting to about lvl 14 in magic i think, i went to mainland, where there were markets etc. I saw not a single person, granted this was mid-day UK time, but i expected to see at least maybe a few.
However, this was a couple of months back..things probably have changed now.
Oh, another point that kinda niggled me a bit, was that people looked the same..i looked the same as the guy i met, aswell as the NPC's and no matter how many different lvls and types of armour i got, i still looked like a brown nobody.
This is natural in early stages, but every screenshot and film ive seen, everyone looks identical..to the minutest detail. Thats something id really struggle with, unless the group/raid ethic was really there (i hear they are planning outposts and such)
Main things i want in an MMO are exploration (this is almost impossible, u'll never find a new place or spawn, except in the first week of a game ), epic PvE, where there are lifelike flora and fauna, with big monsters and such that make you step back a bit...and most importantly..
...other people around, a strong population not in numbers...but in visible people, couldnt care if a game had 10 people playing or 10 million, if there are poeple around to group with and chat to when im on, thats the most vital thing for me, and its why ive played SWG so long, cos i can just goto Bestine, and wham, 20-odd people standing chatting/fighting.
Perhaps i just needed to be told where to go on the mainland, the starting area there was desert looking, not so nice, but seeing other screenshots of the amazing world, i wish i got to see it...
There are two more human looking races (every race is homin, its like 'human' really, but probably from hominid to take in the fact there's more divergence on Atys). The two more human-like races are the Fyros and the Matis. (Matis trees, Fyros desert). Of those Matis is the most populous, but not by much.
At midday UK time you're not going to see that many people no, those that are around are likely to be hardcore players, higher level and somewhere far, far away from the capital.
Evenings, 7pm+ UK time are much more populous.

If you are a US Timezone player you can forget seeing lots of people on unless you play early in the evening (very early) Eastern time. Other than that the population rapidly dwindles. West Coast USA players are very unlikely to see many people on since the vast majority of the players of this game are European timezone.
Lack of people was one of the reasons, as I said before, that I didn't get the game.
The other, and frankly bigger, reason is that I'm not willing to commit my money to a company that's in bankruptcy protection. I'm not willing to invest, potentially hundreds, of dollars into a company that may not be here a year from now.
The last reason, and this was pretty minor, was the utter lack of any ability to heal yourself other than the timered self-heal... this made soloing (in a game that's VERY devoid of other players during US Peak time) very difficult and, because of #1 above (lack of players) that made the game not very much fun.
Ryzom is a great game, don't get me wrong. But those 3 things are what made me decide it wasn't worth risking my money.

People don't look the same at all.
No, really.
Every face is utterly unique, height has a reasonable amount of granularity and so does build. Those who do bother to customise their character will tend to choose similar sorts of heights and builds however and most NPCs are 'average'. If people don't stand out it is largely because of their own choices, not because of a lack in the game.
Armour comes in...
Beige, Green, Turquoise, Purple, Blue, Red, Black and White.
Each race (four races) has light, medium and heavy armour.
Each armour comes in Basic, medium and high quality looks.
There are also 'caster pants' which are skirts, one for each race with the same colour and quality options.
You can also go nakey
You can do the calculations yourself, but that is a LOT of combinations if you mix and match armours.
We could always do with more options, but there really isn't a lack, its just that people tend to go for the same things.
Look outside your own door, hundreds of apparently cloned kids in baggy jeans
Outposts are coming in imminently with a sort of lead in coming. There's a patch a week for two weeks that should be laying the groundwork for a lot of new plot and eventage.
There's still places to explore on Ryzom, even if others have been there seeing new things for yourself, making the treks, both of these are fabulous fun.
There are massive boss monsters, some with minions and there are massive invasions and events where you can engage in epic battles.
The community here may not be massive, but it is strong. You probably just need to find an accomodating guild.
The desert does have a lot going for it, I just think you need to find a guild. You may find the sub-towns of Thesos and Dyron busier than Pyr.

Have to agree. Everyone definitely doesn't look the same.
My problem with the game, as stated just above this post:
1- Lack of players during my time of play (8pm to 11pm Eastern US)
2- Lack of certainty in the company's future (They're in bankruptcy protection)
3- Lack of ability to play solo well. This is made more significant because of #1
I'm not sinking $15 a month into a game that very well may vanish because the company could go bankrupt. Not worth risking my money on. I'm also not willing to pay $15 to play, effectively, alone. If I want to play alone I can go play KOTOR or KOTORII (both of which are better for single play than Any MMO on the market )

Thats a fair amount of armour choice, although compared to sWG choice its tiny
However, the point here is, like SWG pre-CU (Everyone in comp), everyone will wear the same items, cos they have to, cos there will be a 'best' set for each class, same with WoW, and particularly pathetically the same in EQ2 (Class armour, you know what you're gonna be wearing every level before you even start ). Dunno why games just dont make several sets of good quality armour for a class.
I tried to DL the trial again last ngiht before i went to bed, but it timed out literally the second i left the keyboard lol, so will try again tonight.
Oh, my race was the one with the tanned colour skin, not the blue guys or the midgets
Ahh, they dont look to bad, but you can see what i mean about each armour set not totally standing out form one another, unlike say a RIS armour suit and a stormtrooper suit in SWG..but still impressive
The DL is like 1.6gb i think though, so not going to twiddle my thumbs waiting for it to DL, ill tyr it again over night, ill try the midget race this time, and go melee (was caster before, thinking healers are always needed, but i just wasnt use to the mage style of combat, swords ftw).
If i can find out where everyone is hiding, might be the one for me, cos the lush landscape is jsut my type of thing :P...getting sick of all the delays from these new mmo's, stringing out release dates, etc.
oh and use the bit torrent (link on another post by me (here somewhere)) as some ppl have trouble with the standard d/l
yups, there were people having corrupt files a while back was why i suggested torrent, and found the link now
about the "everyone looks the same" thing, try browsing here a bit, as well as here. also note that these are npcs
something you'll have to get used to in ryzom is that people usually have one or two work suits for when they're doing serious stuff (digging / fighting) and several style suits for whenever they please
