Everquest 2 is going no where

I played Everquest and Everquest 2. I had EQ 2 since it came out last November and played it up until July. The whole time I played it there were bugs that wern't being fixed. All games I have played have some bugs or glitches, but EQ 2 had MAJOR bugs that they didn't bother to fix and instead they concentrated on adding new lame content that they had copied from their main competition World of Warcraft. I had tried that game too in November and am now currently playing it, but it was ridiculous! For example, they implemented a huge patch that they took down server for several days just to put in mailboxes and mailing system identical to WoW. Also they copied the vitality system that gave players who can't play as much to catch up to the higher level players. Even though they tried to copy the vitality system it doesn't work well at all. I could not catch up to my friends that played more often than I did. I basically leveled at the same pace forcing me to do more quests than actually catching up to my friends. So many other features they copied from WoW as well but won't hurt my wrists typing it all on this post. Recently Sony released the Desert of Flames while still having major bugs that prevented groups from adventuring properly. For example one of the biggest bugs was and still probably is, is that Necromancers pets aggro monsters that you arn't even fighting leaving you in a combat stance, preventing you from regenerating health and mana!!! Come on now, that is a crying shame. My friend who was a Necromancer sent in numerous tickets begging the programmers of EQ2 to fix the major problem. They never did, and he quit too and went to WoW. I'm not the biggest WoW fan, but it's the closest resembalance to the original EQ out there right now with modern MMO features. In my opinion, it's way to simple, especially the questing aspect, but a game without bugs is better than a game with more realistic graphics. I was such an Everquest fan that I stuck with that buggy game for half a year, but just loving the concept wasn't enough to keep me playing it. In conclusion, Everquest 2 has the potential of being a great MMO if the company would just slow down, fix whats broken already, and not try to impress people by copying WoW.

EQ2 copying WoW? WTF are you talking about? In that case, any mmo that comes out will copy a different one in one way or another. It seems to me that you are just a EQ hating WoW Fanboi...

Okay, so a quick summary would be: Do not get any necromancer in team! Just out of curiosity? Server and character?

Good question, $50 says we don't get an answer (unless he REALLY knows nothing about EQ2, then we might get to prove he's a liar).

Whill Claudette of Modern Rasp from the Crushbone Server, level 42. Also, i'm not a WoW fanboy, because I despised the game when it first came out for its simplicity, but now realized simple isn't always bad. It's about having fun that counts.

I have played the original Everquest for a couple years myself. WoW and EQ do have some similarties, but that's because they are the exact same genre, a sort of medeval fantasy RPG. There are some key major differences though.

First is that WoW has only 7-8 character classes and only 8 races, which you might say is noobish compared to all the character variations you could have with EQ. In my view this is because the gameplay, PvE and PvP is very balanced. No class is secluded from particapting full heartedly in either or. Unlike my experience with EQ where some classes were either just good at PvE or PvP and some both creating a lot of controversy about nerfing, etc.

Second is that WoW has your own sides territory, and contested territory. In EQ if you were playing as a PvP character you could get owned in your own territory without the assistance of guards protecting around you, just near the main city would there be guards mostly.

The third main difference and could be the biggest, is that the quests in WoW are fully explanitory. True, this takes away a roleplaying element from the game, but face it most people go to websites and look up how to do quests anyways. There is no need to in WoW it's that simple. Also, a small fourth difference like I said before was the mailing system. Other games did have a mailing system before WoW but not EQ or EQ2 which implemented them both at the same time after WoW's was successful in the way they had done it.

So yes, the games do have similarites, you could say copying on WoW's end of the essential gameplay like: questing, instaced zones, and raiding. But there is no way the WoW fully copied EQ, it's a different game IMO.

    Paragraph form, w00t.

Yeah it's a different game, but it's basically Everquest: Toontown. If you haven't played Everquest 2 lately, and I take it from your posts it's been a few months, they have just changed it significantly, and for the extreme better I might add.

The combat revamp added a ton of challenge to battles, you now have to think on your feet. The new expansion added dueling and pvp which I haven't tried, but I can tell you dueling is a blast.

The fact is the title of your thread is the opposite of true, Everquest 2 is skyrocketing and has never been more fun! If you don't like a challenge I recommend World of Warcraft.image

I disagree with the OP, but agree with many of the others who have posted since then. EverQuest II has been taking many steps in the right direction since release. As it stands now, I can say that the game is a lot of fun. The combat changes and additional (well done, I might add) content in Desert of Flames has done a heck of a lot to improve the game overall. The Splitpaw Saga, an Adventure Pack released a few months back, was also a great addition to the game.

If they are able to maintain the pace of major game updates that they have so far, EQII will be far and away the best MMORPG out there. I'm not saying I don't already consider it my personal favorite, because I do, but I think others will begin to discover how great the game is after it realizes its full potential.

not to be facecous or anything, after playing wow for almost a year, this is my oppinion on 1/2 the population -=<before you flame me HALF THE POP, the other half is great>=-
"PLZ CANI GET GFOLD, I NEEDE TO LVL SKLZZ, PLZ MAN! PLZZZZZZ!

i played wow since release, and just purchased eq2 last weekend. my favorite part of eq2 is the crafting system. yes it takes a long time to make anything, but i haven't seen anything as in-depth as it, since UO. thier both good games , just different. EQ was released years before wow, let's not compare apples to oranges. eq2 seems to be improving itself quite rapidly, from being a Warcraft fan since the mid nineties, i passed up eq2 the first time to play WoW. now i wish i had given eq2 a second look.

Just a quick advice on crafting. When you start to think "I wish I had a monkey to push my buttons", do no get tempted to search for one. Go out and kill stuff for a couple of weeks, then come back and craft with 100% vitality :)
