Is Guild Wars an MMORPG???

I have been playing guild wars for a very long time now. Since it got released in Australia. I was talking to what seemed to be some of the more apprently elite players of guild wars. It came up in the conversation that they have never played the rpg side of guild wars.

Not to mention that the game is actually played in your own small versions of the world only allowing up to 8 people max and it dosnt even offer that through the hole game.

I was just wondering what everyone thought about it.

As well as any suggestions for other good mmorpgs that are open world.

Thanks Guys

Guild Wars is a CORPG (Competitive Online Roleplaying Game). I think Gaile Grey(PR Manager) stated that.

Although I'm not such a fanboy anymore, I still have my W/Mo and E/Me sitting happy doing nothing.

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

This has been discussed many times before. No, it is not an MMORPG. That is not an oppinion or insult, it is a fact.

It's just as much an MMORPG as DDO I guess. Do you consider DDO a MMOG?

DDO isn't out, we have no idea what it's going to be yet. So you can't compare them.

But if DDO is a big city/chatroom with completely 100% instanced areas? Then DDO is a CORPG as well.

And, no, GuildWars isn't an MMORPG. By definition, and also according to the game's own developers, it is a CORPG.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

who cares? Why do people find the need to label everything. GW falls somewhere on the hazy edge of the genre...let it stay there.

Let's settle this once and for all.

    Guild Wars = Guild Wars

Who the hell cares if it's an MMOG, MMORPG, MMOCRPG, CORPG, MMODEG, or MMORPGFPSD2?!?!?
