When ppl complain about the bugs, it's true...The main ones are fixed like within a week, or maybe already are...(The main thing was just the sound loop crash bug...I think it's already fixed, but not 100% sure)

The other complaints about nerfs...I totally disagree about them...Ppl are complainging just because they have to get accustomed to a new way of playing the game...What's basically changed (due to nerfs) is that now equal leveled/white foes are harder than before...So now it's you are "supposedly" equal to 3 even level/white foes (Depends what u play though, but you should beable to take more if u wanted to, but just more risks...and u can take on more as u get higher in level)...Before some class could take on unlimited amounts of foes depending on powersets...Now it's not so much, but foes now give more exp to make up for the difficulty...

Anyways, I suggest u ask around for the trial key to test it first...I don't suggest getting COH now, because amount of players will probably drop when COV comes out, but not sure how much will be gone...

END GAME CONTENT... There are some trial missions, 3 to be exact I think... And there's Hamidon (a raid boss)...The only real "ENDGAME CONTENT" is not out yet... PVP will be out when COV comes...After that, the devs are planning the "Real" endgame content for this game, but I have no clue what it's going to be... So there's not gonna be real end content for awhile...

    Ah glad you asked!

At level 50, there are an unlimited number of missions you can get from contacts in
the Shadow Shard zone. There is also Arena PvP. Won't really go into PvP as its completely borked and I can write pages and pages why NOT to do PvP for CoH.

Let see the things you can do. Exemplaring aka Reverse sidekicking allows you to drop levels to your mentor's lvl. For instance your lvl 50, and your teamed up with a level 15. You can exemplar to become a lvl 15 again. This way allows you to get mission badges you may have missed.

    - Ah yes, badge collecting, another thing you can do. In a lot of ways its like collecting pokemon cards except its badges. Some have benefits, most dont.

    - Go around helping low level characters by healing or buffing (without steal killing)

    - Hamidon Raids. Kill the hardest mob in the game for a special dual enhancement. lvl 45+

    - Late level Task Forces. Pretty much, a chain of missions that takes forever to complete for a badge. Has storylines to boot.

    - When Issue 6 comes out, a type of crafting of temp powers becomes available. This might be interesting

    - Also when Issue 6 is released, 4 shared PvP zones between CoH and CoV is introduced. More PvP. Yay! Developers focusing on a completely broken system, they will never ever ever ever get right
even if they had the smartest people on the planet.

So to answer your question, not much for end game stuff.
    -------------

As for Issue 5, Lord Darkmist is right. Simply put, Issue 5 changed the fighting system as the other players knew it. Old players since the beginning felt great like when the game first came out, but as a year went by there favorite characters were nothing compared to they were before.

So a lot of the old players are crying. But the new players wont notice anything. A lot of people have left except I would say the die hards. (You know the guys on the forums with the 1000+ post count who cant bare to leave the game)

Issue 5 was just that, it was a game changing decision on how combat was handled. So much to touch on, this is another subject that would take pages to explain.

Then there are the bugs. Anyways, there was a fix for the sound looping bug submitted in the patch notes recently. However, my contacts/friends/acquaintences who still play CoH keep telling me, they are still crashing from the sound looping thing. If my pals tell me they are still crashing, their still crashing =(

I would really recommend waiting until Issue 6 comes out until they can squish all the bugs. Issue 5 broke a lot of stuff. Join up now if you want. Just remember, your character will not feel the same each patch. CoH Developers, time and time again have changed the feel of your character each patch. (aka the nerf)

    They talk like Stateman.

End Game = Hamidon, nothing more, nothing less, which is raiding in PvE...and this is incredibly boring, especially that it is always the same mobs, and that you have to bear silly persons with weird egos issues putting rules and obligations to be part of their schedule and so on.  A complete lack of endgame was better than this "must raid trash".

With CoV it will change, from a EQlike endgame to a DAoC like endgame.  Dont read me wrong, it is by no way as harsh or mean as EQ or DAoC, yet a small burn is a burn nonetheless.

And for the nerfs...I like challenge, I dont like losing what I already have.  Would it have been much work to make it so that I need to fight new stuff or mob a level or 2 higher rather then nerf me?  Yes it was possible.  Nerfs mostly completely change the ATs, they change the "balance" for PvP concerns.  Those nerfs are very ill conceive and only the most radical fanbois support them.

Example:  Why group a scrapper?  You have no reason to pick a scrapper over either a tanker or a blaster.  Why solo and play a scrapper?  Again you have no reason to do it anymore, a scrapper hunt slower then a blaster from level 1 to level 50, cant access anything a blaster cant.  A scrapper is completely pointless since they up the regen on monsters/AVs without adding something making it worthwhile for a solo scrapper to be a scrapper rather then something else.

Cryptic is currently in the phase SoE in it early times, they read and breath the same.  They pick a "Must RvR road" rather then a raiding in a PvE road, which make it only more horrible.

You will read less and less peoples like me, for the simple fact we lost interest and hope in the game.  We feedback a lot, and we see them choose what please them rather then what would make the game a better place.

Dont try to tell me there is more challenge for a scrapper to kill a boss in a mission then there was in me soloing BattleMaiden, there was FAR more challenge in soloing BattleMaiden who can kill me in 2 hits prior the nerfs.  It was a fun fight, and beating her was a satisfaction and quite challenging...

But no....killing rats...err minions...is the way they pick for soloers...fine, I am out!  Challenge is welcome, but nerfs are not.  The game was having a better PvE balance at release then now, and many DEVS inside Cryptic agree in private channels!  So what more can be said, the minority who lead Cryptic pick a way and the crew follow because they want to please him...sound like SoE/Crey!

SoE is 5 years in advance on Cryptic, and WoW is prolly a good 5 more years behind on concepts understanding for END GAME to please every player.  Will SoE learn and make a nice END GAME?  More likely then Cryptic at any rate!

Maybe TR will be interesting.  AA seem to be corrupted by the same stuff that corrupt Stateman, so I would not bother unless they re-assured me a LOT.  Otherwise, look elsewhere, many games coming, 1 will be nice eventually.

Is it worth buying CoH now?  Yes, less then ever, but more than tomorrow.  They completely destroy what make CoH a great game and they dont even realize it.  CoH, even with all the 5 nasty changes, is still the best MMO...for now.  At CoV it will prolly downgrade a LOT, not sure it will be worth it.  So buy now, have a blast for a few months!  I have no regret, this game is/was GREAT!  The Amazone is still the greatest river on the world and the rainforest is still majestic, but it far from what it was in the last century.

I would simply tell Cryptic this:

"It is devs like you that ruin your own land!  Bark bark!"

told ya a lot of the old players are crying ::::16::

  • BladinBladin Member UncommonPosts: 1,089

its mainly cuz they wen't from gods to heroes. Getting their fad of the moment combos min/maxed and now they can't herd a entire mission map.

And saying scrappers are useless? 2-3 shotting minions, doing more dmg on average to avs/bosses(the only thing thats really a challenge besides those annoying sappers!) then blasters and tankers... ya we are sure useless.

Like i said, the gods became heroes, and now they are crying. equal level mobs should be a challenge, fighting hordes of +4s and coming out unscratched was overpowered.

my MA/regen scrapper still solos like a god, still does good in groups(when i play smart omg i gotta think besides OMG TEH RUSH?!?) I have no complaints for him. I LOVE having tankers in my group they tank awesome. I love having controllers, and blasters, and defenders!

And alot of the changes to coh will fall into line when cov comes out and pvp starts.

Cryptic is on a shedule to add new zones per lvl. With issue 6 & 7 coming up, alot of content will be for the end game.  I take it your a power gamer so now would be a good time to join.

Even some devs staff inside Cryptic agree with what I said.

But chat the way it please you, it doesnt change the fact the game was not improved, but shafted, and the fact it has less subscribtions than at release.  CoV will give it a temporary boost, but it remains to be seen if it will be more then that.

Scrappers are quite useless now, the best proof is that they remove it in CoV for the villains (actually they remove the tanker officially, but between you and me, if you remove the tanker and make the scrapper a better tank...we all know that it is the scrapper that was removed).  There is no way a scrapper can outdamage a blaster on a boss if both start at a normal distance from the boss.  Even less on minions and scores of mobs.

Fanbois are fanbois and they give a blind support.  Same happens years ago when EQ was changed.  A minority of players calling themselves majority support the changes...LOL.

I have nothing more to add that I didnt already state.

I'd like proof that they agreed, first and foremost.
Furthermore, my MA/SR (yes, the *gimp* set) does fine on soloing AND big team missions.

But let's analyze this argument...Scrappers must be useless because they aren't in CoV.
    Oh wait...so are Tankers then...
    and Controllers...Dominators have Control/Ranged(and Melee)
    and Blasters then...

So...the only thing going for this is that Defenders aren't cut because Corrupters have Ranged/Buff sets, but even then Corrupters have the inherent power that they do more damage the less HP their enemies have.

Whether you call me a fanboi or not, I know this game isn't going anywhere. The same crap has been claimed on every single change in this game, from the purple patch, to the smoke grenade nerf, to the level 20 capes requirement, to the travel power suppression fiasco, to the present I5. All of them have brought a proclaim of "doom", and every time it HAS NOT HAPPENED. PERIOD. This won't be any different, especially because the recent launch of CoV will not only spark interest in THAT game, but renew interest into CoH because of added features like SG bases. If this fact that doom isn't coming makes me apparently "blind", then maybe I don't want to see such a deluded clarity.

Thanks much for your input! i'm going to pick the game up this weekend or next week, i woudl wait for CoV but i like Heroes more then villans (a part of me died inside watching the jedi scene in the last SW movie::::16::)

Any idea for servers to play on? i can't wait till i make my character ::::28::

  • LackeyZeroLackeyZero Member Posts: 640

I suggest playing on the most populated server so that it's easier to find teams and since population will drop somewhat when COV comes...My suggestion is probably a server like "Justice" or other ones with more(I have no clue which server is most populated but Justice is one of the higher ones)...

(I played in one of the least populated ones, "Guardian"...Around 1k players are on Guardian and other servers have more on at a time)

  • usefuluseful Member Posts: 85

Go freedom, as far as I can tell it has the biggest player base, justice also ranks up there as lord mentions.
There are only certain times during the day the servers are busy. Don't expect to find a lot of people during off-hours.

1- I never say CoH was doom, for some reason you put that in. It is on the decline since I2, CoV will boost it temporarily, but with such bad mistakes, we will see.

2- Stateman himself say that the CoV archtype are : Scrapper, Blaster, Controller, Defender and a new archtype which I will resume for you as a rogue (they have others names however).  Now, everyone realize that by removing the tanker, in fact they remove the scrapper and not the tanker, yet they want to hide it and play with AT names.

3- Devs staff have sign a NDA as I have on my job on others topics (non-MMO oriented), so I would be quite dimwit to bring proofs of that and betray the folks who share their insight with me.  Believe me or not.

4- All the nerfs are bad, but the scrapper very reason of existence is removed.  If you are playing a scrapper and happy...well, there is nothing more I have to say but *hug* you and encourage you.  Maybe you see something I dont.  Maybe you are blind and believe in somestuff that doesnt exist.  It doesnt matter.

5- I still say that CoH is the best MMO despite all it mistakes, and you guys just blindly fight me with nonsense.  Those nerfs are bad.  It was possible to bring challenge and make the game interesting without removing anything you already gave to players.  But blast me all you want, you only prove my point.

6- Stateman pretty much remind me of Aradune on more then 1 aspect or 2.  Aradune is not a bad guy...but he was never concerned for the good of the majority and is the prime source of this elitism in old EQ.

7- The nerfs where made for only 1 reason and no other reason, they were done for PVP, at the expense of PvE.  And you expect me to accept that?  Challenge is a meek excuse, it could have been bringed in other more heroics forms.  The way they bring challenge is hardly about challenge, it is about PvP balance...PvP should have NO IMPACT on PvE, not on balance, not on class, not on uberness, absolutely no effect on PvE.

8- Hamidon (raiding) or PvP END GAME are unacceptables, and they are heading that way more then ever.  Enjoy!

9- I am sure the new player will have a blast in CoH, and I congratulate him.  In fact I envy him.  But dont start lying to newcomers, odds are that in a few months, with a few more nerfs and more unacceptable END GAME, if he is not in the minority of players who enjoy those features, then he will leave the game a little unhappy, because Cryptic willingly destroy their game.

10- Triumph and Liberty where both good servers when I play, but I didnt play much for a long long time...so follow others advice on this. image

As you can see how heated people who play this game gets after playing it for a while.

I agree with this quote 100%. While Anoflyte believes the end game is Hamidon only, I believe there is a few more items you can still do (see previous post).

But dont expect your character to be the same after each patch. Those future changes might leave you, um unhappy.

Just check around the CoH forums, boards.cityofheroes.com. Check out all the negative posts vs. the good posts. And see who exactly is posting. Im sure youll find the happy ones are the ones with like a 500+ post count. (aka the fanboys)

Oh and a little advice if you do decide to stay as a long term player. Pick a non-popular class that way, when the patch (aka nerf) comes, it wont hurt as bad.

  • SomnulusSomnulus Member Posts: 354

Current players really need to drop the "gods to heroes" argument.  My main was a force field / dark blast defender (Level 50) and he was far from being a god by anyone's definition.  I don't care who you are.  And they definitely were not anyone's idea of a flavor of the month / day / year.  I think I only ran into two others on Liberty from release on.

Regardless, I ran my missions on invincible and it took me literally hours to complete one map and it was a definite challenge.  There was nothing simple about it.  I called for help with bosses when I needed it and I learned how to run and how to pick my enemies off.  That was a challenge.

But I just couldn't enjoy a game where my character was constantly being redefined for me, without any input from me as a player at all and seemingly without any real reason... just rationalizations.  Especially skills and/or abilities that affect every single player regardless of their class, like the travel power changes (minus teleport, which has always had a bit of the short stick for travel anyway).

Anofayle is definitely right in one very important respect... raise the challenge, if you feel it is necessary, but don't cause a player to feel like they have create a new character every time an issue is released.  Players shouldn't be wondering how they're going to get another respecialization so they can adjust the brand new shortfalls brought on by an issue release.

CoH was a great game, as released.  Nearly flawless and just incredibly fun.  Barring some significant power changes, up through I3 it was still very good.

I have to agree again, that new players will probably have a blast; you won't find a more dynamic character creator in any MMORPG.  But I will say that the action in CoH has slowed down considerably from release to present.  Of course, many older players complain about the changes or just cancel their subscriptions; the game changed significantly from when they started playing and for them, it simply wasn't fun anymore.

There is the badge as well, everything else by not progressing your toon is not "END GAME" anymore than going to grocery.  But the badges are completely eclipsed by this bad Hamidon-feature.  If I want to raid, I can pick EQ or WoW or EQ2 or whatever else, they all outmatch CoH on raiding easily...but the fact is... I dont want to raid!

Now the downtime while playing a REGEN is simply amazing, tell me how downtime is an improve in any game?  REGEN scrappers are used to have 0 downtime, and for challenge it was there for someone who really want it...taking sappers was dangerous....been 1 hit shot was always a consideration, or 2 hits in the case of BattleMaiden(my favorite fight)...I was stuck once between 2 sappers for 20 minutes and cursing like a madog.  But waiting on my bars to replenish, even 20 seconds, is not an improvment.  And the list barely start, I could add you a LOT of others example...but waiting for my bars to replenish, is by no way, an improvment, and hardly what I consider challenge in itself...waiting is...waiting.

To Anofalye and other ppl who believes there was other ways to improve difficulty by making foes stronger...

Well, here is my stance...I think the nerf/balance was necessary...Although, I think it's a bit too harsh though, when I read the numbers they were reduced to...In addition it also created some unbalanced powersets...Invulnerability is one of them (This powerset is only good versus smashing/Lethal foes, and the fire armour set can max resist for smashing/lethal too from what I heard and it has other good powers in addition)...Anyways, the reason it was necessary for nerfing was exactly what Anofalye appears to find okay...I don't like the idea of being oneshot...PreI5 (if you were heavily defensive type or regeneration) you would just stand there dodging like forever until a shot would land on you that deal an insane amount of damage (in the 1000s,2000s,3000s or more...controller has around 900hp, tankers have around 3000-4000 with the use of Dull Pain otherwise around 1800 without)...These fights were really boring to me, and I think the insane damage for balance sake back then was unacceptable...

Basically, if your idea to improve difficulty was to increase foes' damage, then I'd find a big problem with that (Just imagine what it would be like, I'm not going to explain it)...What I'd like to know, is what was your idea to improve difficulty without nerf?...If it's anything like my suggestion(below) then it wouldn't work without a nerf...PreI5 regeneration/invulnerability/etc. were too powerful... Regeneration was able to heal from like the red mark to max life in a couple of seconds...Invulnerability was hardly taking any damage at all (like maybe 100 from AVs) with their unlimited "unstoppables"...That's just way too "godly"...This is the main reason why I believe the nerf was necessary...

JUST MY HOPES THAT THE DEVS SHOULD/WOULD DO...

Anyways I realize AVs probably still do an insane amount of damage and the result is practically the same boring fights, but alot harder...Now, what I "hope" is that they scale down the damage of AVs and some others like maybe the Underboss...And add in 2nd tier type status effecting powers for AVs and maybe some bosses too...The power would hold/immob./disorient/etc. for hopefully 30 sec. -1 min. max, affect players regardless of protection from status effects, protection and resistance to status effects would reduce duration of effects, defensive(any shield/armour/etc.) toggles are not turned off, debuff toggles would affect foe at maybe half it's rate...Because right now all the AVs are really doing is just pure insane damage because it's effects doesn't work with the players' status effect protection...

In COV, they seem to be trying to make AV battles more interesting by giving them like 1 unique power? Ghost Widow gets "soulstorm"...but I think my idea would help a whole lot more...

The CoV ATs are nothing like the CoH ones. There's not even a full empathy set.

Also, I believe that the changes weren't due to PvP, but more lessening the overpowered builds while discouraging herding and PLing (Burn changes, etc.), but that's just me.
