Well have fun paying for a beta then. You can pay to do the testing, ill wait and if the game is as good as all the fanboys make it out to be without having played it, it will hit retail and be a big hit. Chances are its going to fail before it ever makes it retail though. Have fun! Ill be playing games that dont leave their fans and press in the dark about everything and actually enjoy showing off their game.
Go into thier chat channel, there are like 40 devs on thier. You can probably figure out a way to sneak info out of them.
Also it might be worth it to pay for the beta. They probably are going to charge far less then if it was actually a commercial game. Good chance to see if the game is worth it.
Paying for beta isnt such a bad thing. If you think about there are plenty of people that get into betas and dont even play. Thats a waste. BUT if you paid for the beta youd be much more likely to take the game serious and play more often.
That's why I think preordering to get into the Beta is a good thing, it's like Investing in the game.
Obviously many companies think so too... NCSoft is all about that mentality. Expect to see that more and more as time goes on. It's how you'd weed out the unwanted, non-paying, people.

Will the insanity never cease! PAYING for beta? Do you hear yourselves? Try to step back from your position of wanting to play the game so bad, and actually LOOK at what they want you to do. Playing beta's is not like playing a finished game. You need to constantly try to break the server by exploiting every possible weakness you can think of, you zone in and out of areas multiple times, you need to write down and compile lists of crap that didn't work right for you, or that wasn't intuitive to gameplay, you need to stop what you're doing when you find a bug, and exploit it over and over, so as to give the Q&A team enough feedback so they can repeat it. Sometimes these processes are quick, and others can take an entire playsession. It's NOT like playing a finished game, it's more like work....and you guys want to PAY for it like it's some kind of priveledge?
I am sympathetic to your cause of wanting to finally play a game that you've looked forward too for a long time, but this is not the answer. I don't know much about D&L, or if they are in fact actually asking fans to pay to test, but if so, I plead with you not only to NOT do this, but take a stand against it, before other companies see that it works, and use it as just another tactic to inflate their profit margins. I enjoy beta-testing because I enjoy problem solving, but I also consider it volunteer work.
This also raises my radar about what kind of position this game is in financially. This is a pretty desperate measure, certainly a tactic I've never seen used before, and one that signals to me that the business is desperate for more liquid assets (cash) for whatever reason. That's usually not a good sign. So, please if you are thinking about doing this, I urge you to reconsider. The company NEEDS your feedback, and more importantly they NEED your bodies to stress the limits of thier design. Do not let them put spin on this like they are actually doing YOU a favor, for just the opposite is true. If they need money let them seek it elsewhere. They say a sucker is born every minute...don't let that sucker be you.

This is an attitude that still boggles me. Why do you think you deserve to be in the know about everything that Dark and Light will be before it gets released?? If you're not in the beta then you SHOULDN'T know! Just relax and wait for it be released before you put the last nail in the coffin.
Have fun playing Guild Wars I mean D&D online. Instances suck ass in my humble opinion. Wait till it comes out and then pee all over it, k?

I would rather play an instanced game where you can join up with some friends quickly and do some fun missions with a progressive story and a system that (slightly) replaces the DM, with action oriented fast paced combat in the DND universe, than play a game with a world so huge and hving so little content that half the time youre either struggling to get somewhere productive or struggling to find something fun to do.
Why should I know everythign about DnL before its released? BECAUSE THATS WHAT YOURE PAYING FOR. The point of beta ISNT TO HIDE INFORMATION FROM THE PUBLIC, its to get rid of bugs, fix problems with content and get players opinions on what they is wong/right with the game and how it can be changed. The only thing theyve done right so far, is at least admit that what people will be paying for in November is essentially a beta. If youre stupid enough to shell out money for an unfinshed (and odnt any start that garbage 'MMORPGs are never finished' speach) product then its peopel like you who prove people can put out a half-assed product and people will still pay for it.
Im more interested in HJ anyways, DDO may be a fun alternative though.
I think folks are seeing red flags with ( paying for beta after a snafu) with another paticular company that did charge for a game which folks got there credit card billed for what was eseitnaly well a total mess
We have an idea that funds are what they are and by pushing a release they are trying to re coup enough to keep the project going.
There are good arguments on both sides of the issue, but after trying another beta recently it was obvious there just wasn't enough to test to do full /bug reports to make it worth my while.
I do believe part of the problem is gamers feel a let down upon release, given the shape that recent offerings were in at release. Several times bitten twice shy
The obvious answer was to wait a few months to 6 months to let them iron out the big stuff....
Maybe just maybe the genra is in such a state that many players will no longer slap down 50 plus a montly payment unless they can acatuly *gasp* play a game, at a some what finished state.
Most of us know newly released mmorpgs all have issues, and some even horrid launches. However there is a chance with affective communication between the developers and the community such issues can be forgiven over time if active bug fixing takes places without making such major game play changes each patch it takes reading the patch notes, every time you log in just to play.
I do see vast problems with up coming releases, that have to deal with the fall out of other "sunk games". The industry can last but gamers are more picky about there game play and just will not accept any state just to play something they had been looking forward to.
I am also very conserned of the vastness of random generated vast space of nothing ness i have seen good intensions of another game try that and fail ............
Shoot one of daoc's best features lately is adding faster run speed. It is almost hard to play other games when use to little priveleges like that.
i wish it well i wish it sucess for those longing for non mid evil, but caution is the key word, and after all we just may be albe to learn from history............
