Hi all you great online rpg fans. I'm finding it necissary to inform mmorpg gamers of the pathetic state of the world's granddaddy of mmorpg's. The game that started any real online PvP has had it's PvP aspect, which in years past has been a major and vital component of the game, has seen not just almost a complete abandonment of pvp content from the developers but a slew of changes occuring with the last two expansion that have been highly detrimental to all uo pvp. Basically, PvM has been the complete focus of the staff, and no additions have occured for the PvP area, the original world of Felucca, in about 5 years. There hasn't been an attempt to balance the skills introduced in both expansions Samurai Empire, and the current travesty, Mondain's Legacy, in over 2 years. The truely depressing part is that over the last years there have been in my estimation some 30- 40 thousand PvP enthusiastic players in UO, with at least half of them in Japan. However, when things started to turn "trammie"(the non pvp areas are called trammel ruleset) and tram issues continued to destroy PvP, much of the Japanese population left the game. Some of them attempted to come onto the stratics forums, which btw is down right now as usual, and express their dismay in broken english. The vast majority just quit.
Currently, thanks to EA's direction to the staff telling them to pump the new expansion with ever more powerfull weapons and abilities, about 75 percent of the remaining pvp population is running around on archers, using powerfull special moves with godlike bows, and having no concern for mana. These hocked up archers can basically kill even the most adept PvPer in 2 seconds. And where is the UO staff? Probably on vacation congratulating themselves for the job well done on the expansion. Meanwhile months pass, more players leave. It's just very sad to see EA ruin the worlds greatest MMORPG by sticking their idiotic ideas into something they have no business making decisions in. RIP UO.

and someone crying that they get owned in pvp isnt lame? please repond as to how that was a lame answer to someone crying. thank and good night chicago!!!!!
dang people need to lighten up and relax uo is still good you just have to farm now like every other game.
you could get owned in pvp in two hits pre uor so whats new???
If EA had half a brain, they'd make UO a game to play again. I know a lot of people just off the top of my head that would re-sub to that game if they could bring back the golden ages. Better even if they left some of the stuff in, but not the items-based thing they have now.
EA could make a fortune, but they treat UO like a step-child, which can't be for business reasons.

just let that game die already.. UO is a thing of the past and has been worked over so many times it's become just a shadow of it's former self, if you really insist on playing it and like it the way it was pre-renaissance.. well I'm sure that google can help you get your fix..
Have played:
UO, WOW, COH/V, EQ2
Currently playing:
Age of Conan (EU)
how is UO not a game to play anymore??
the game has good pvp and pve more cutomization than anyother game.
create your home one tile at a time. who else has that?
skils mix and match. no im a dwarf hunter then 3 sub skills to choose from thats not custom its cookie cutter.
pvp in fel. has its own land mass for that and alot of people still go there for pvp.
only thing it doesnt have is 3d oh nooo.....
as for farming now what game dont you farm??
I agree with the poster above mostly. UO killed PvP along time ago, I am suprised to see anyone giving it much thought now a days. Its not what it used to be. When trammel came in it was basicly FU to pvpers. Maybe they will just do away with the fel rule set and convert it to a trammel one also and then make dueling only in the pits/arenas hahah.
Good pve and pvp customazition? lol... You are archer or you dont have much room to compete in pvp. Latest expansion added new race (1st new race ever added to uo) that is overpowered compared to humans and even more overpowered compared to 2nd class humans (these who didnt buy expansion didnt even get racial bonuses of their own race).
I wonder when players who still play UO reliaze how much EA is milking them. Expansion packs with overpowered stuff (buy it or you are out of pvp), they are selling in game skills(advanced chars), character name change(say bye for accountability that was left), even in game items and "bonus" editions with some lame pre-order gifts.
Was quite funny when they started to sell advanced chars long ago. First they nerf skill and stat gaining and soon they announced advanced chars (what a cunning plan).
Unfortunately, LlammaLord shows the bias of most of the playerbase in UO. I admit, i've farmed a great deal of items over the years, but item farming trammies just don't know about Fel. UO PvP is actually not dead, it's just dying. Even 6 months ago it was pretty vibrant, but in decline. Like I said, there were probably 20,000+ PvPers playing UO around the world, this is not a small number considering UO only has maybe 120k members max. Unfortunately the bean counters at EA can't see past their accounting. They see thats a minority and so they focus on what gave the game a resurgence of popularity in 2003 with Age of Shadows, Ebay-Item farming and the selling of special and overpowered items.
EA is one of the most scrupulous, anything for a buck companies I've seen. They've started selling in-game items in UO, every three months a new batch of unique, and usually fairly lame, items are introduced that players can buy on ea.com for 2 dollars each. How they intend to claim that they own our accounts while selling items to everyone directly I don't know, I guess they're counting on their lawyers to defeat any lawsuites resulting from banning, and of course the Bushies are in office, and are very friendly to huge corporations.
It's interesting to note that many EA flunkies from the Sims-Online are now working for UO. It's amusing to watch them take UO in even a more item glutted direction even when TSO, a game about pure greed and item collection, failed. Lol, poor EA, they broke up OSI and have stuck their noses in Maxis business and it's resulted in some pretty poor games. The last Ultima, Ultima Ascension, Simcity 4, and TSO have been sad failures. It's too bad because OSI and Maxis used to produce some of the worlds best games, but i don't see that in their future.
If you are not a PVPer in UO..Kindly shut up, you have absolutly no clue what you are talking about.
A Fight that consistantly boil's down to 1 shot 1 kill due to stupidly overpowered races/weapons is not balanced, and never will be. UO is now balanced toward PVE not PVP, and I hate to break it to those who do not know but Balance for the two styles of combat are completely different.
UO was never designed as a farm game, Farming is what is done in games that have Crappy design.
Its no wonder I quit official UO year's ago. The PVP community is still alive and well, we have just moved to a place less welcoming to PVEer's.
