This is NOT written by me.
But I might edit and update it later.

This will take you through some basics of Face of Mankind and the battle system.

When you enter the game for the first time you will be asked to create a name followed by what faction you wish to join.

You have multiple choices to choose from as shown bellow.

1. LED (Law Enforcement Department) (Police)
2. FDC (Freedom Defence Corps) (Army)
3. BoS (Brotherhood of the Shadows)
4. MotB (Mercenaries of the Blood)
5. AE (American Enterprises)
6. AC (Asian Coalition)
7. GoM (Guardians of Mankind)
8. CMG (Colonization and Mining Guild)
9. EC ( Euroe Core )
10. VI ( Vortex Inc ) - Will be ingame within few weeks

1. As in the speech shown by when you hover over each of the Factions it shows you what they are based about for example MotB (Mercenaries of the Blood) are elite fighter that join Cells to become more powerful. They can also be hired by other Factions to fight a war for them or even just to kill another Cell.

2. Once you have created a character and have your faction the first thing to do best would be to buy Clone Insurance from the nearest medical centre. To locate these just simply run around until you find signs showing you the way to the medical centre.

3. After getting your Clone Insurance you want to find out where your faction is located and where your enemies are because the last thing you need is being ganked by another faction even though your new it WILL happen. You can simply ask in faction chat by pressing J until you see your chat box is on Faction Chat then just simply ask in there where would be best to hang for a newbie.

4. Once you have found a safe place you will need to get your self-a weapon of some kind. To find out where to get a weapon simply follow the signs to the market terminal which is like a black computer on a pole there will be 8 to 10 of these around you but you only need to use one of them.
Once you have entered the market you will have multiple things you can buy like Weapons as you click the main bar down from the top right of the market terminal. Once you have selected weapons have a scroll through and get an idea of the price and QL (Quality) of the weapon. Of course the lower the QL the less it will cost you to buy.

5. Once you have found a cheap enough weapon you will need to purchase ammo for it. Now when you buy ammo it needs to be the same QL as the weapon so look close to what QL your weapon is so you can match it with the right ammo.

6. Here are some examples of which ammo goes with which gun.

Linner PP7 – 7.62 Ammo (There are two types of 7.62) Normal and Titanium (Titanium of which penetrates the enemies armour more)

Orbit – Energy Cells (Energy cells cost a lot more to 7.62 but is more powerful if hit directly)

7. Once you have purchased you Gun and Ammo you maybe wondering where is it this is simple whenever you buy items or weapons from the Market Terminal it will go directly to your storage. To find storage simply follow the signs but it is usually very near to the Market Terminals. The Storage is a circular box with a red icon floating above it.

8. Once you have located the storage enter it and you should find your weapon + ammo in it. Simply right click your weapon and transfer it to your inventory. The same goes for ammo but you won’t need much to start with just take 2 or 3 clips.

9. Once you have you weapon you will need to reload the ammo into it. Equip your weapon by simply pressing 1 / 2 or 3 to bring it into your hands. Once you have the weapon equipped press Backspace to reload your weapon. Then press left mouse button to try it (Beware of Turrets When Doing This)

10. Once you are ready to go and kick some ass you may want to enter a mission so that you are with other members of your Faction to help you more and show you things not explained here. To enter missions simply follow these steps bellow.

1. Press the escape key to show the toolbar on the top left
2. Click on the magnifying glass icon
3. Click on start search where the search option is set for 'accepting'
4. Right click on any results found
5. Look for the mission details and right click then join mission

11. Once you have joined you will have to read the missions description on where it is located and what to do once you have joined it. In the mission Description you need to look for the Location of the mission and what Spawn Node. After finding out you will need to go to the nearest Vortex and buy a ticket to the location and node it is located at. (Unless it is where you already are)

12. Once you have finished a mission you will have to Give Reputation to your other members of the mission. (If not done you will NOT get any XP or Money)
To do this simply click on your mission details and then click Evaluate then click Give Reputation then Submit it. After doing so you may have to wait up to a real life week to get the cash and XP for the mission.

When you have done all these things you should have a ruff idea on what to do in the game just repeat these tasks to gather Money + XP so that you can buy higher QL Weapons / Armour / Implants / Medical Kits.

A few simple little things you should watch out for is when you have done all this you may notice little LED Turrets on walls in some city’s. These will fire apon anyone with a gun up so make sure when you’re running around you press 0 to Holster your gun.

    good guide

you know i always get annoyed with the people who say this particular game is the worst when they only play for a few hrs so they dont even take time to try and learn the game and throw it out the window. So a good guide should put things into view.

Well, here's my experience with the game. I recently downloaded the game and entered it and noticed that the interface has increased leaps and bounds over what it was when open beta first came out. They also included a tutorial, which was helpful, at least with the basics.

I joined a mining guild because I wanted to produce items. At first I started on the Space Station Genesis, where I soon found out after some deal of exploration that there were no mining terminals and the production terminal could only manufacture one good. I then travelled to Tokyo, where I promptly gotten lost trying to find a mining terminal. After a while, I realized that only certain places have mining terminals and the other places, like the cities, have the good production terminals.

So then I decided to fill one of my faction's production missions, which required 1 Plastic of Quality Level 1. Going over to a production terminal, I found out that the item required 2 units of carbon and 1 unit of chemical substances. Not knowing that these were refined products using production terminals, I tried futilely to find a mining terminal which could mine these items. After turning up nothing, I checked the forums and came across this guide:

    http://www.fomportal.com/quickrefs/index.php?menu=TOOLS&page=resources

This is when I found out that to get carbon, I needed to use the carbonizer at a production terminal. So then I went to a mining terminal to look for materials that could produce carbon and I found coal. The description for coal said that it contained carbon so I made the logical conclusion that carbon could be extracted from coal in the carbonizer. I set up 2 work orders, one to mine 10 units of coal and the other to mine 10 units of chemicals. The game told me that the minerals will be available in approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. I thought this was an interesting game mechanic in that it freed you up to go and do other things while you wait for your minerals to mine, but since I had nothing else to do in-game (wasn't interested in combat), I logged off for the evening.

The next day, I signed back on and was surprised that I started back in my apartment. Apparently the game doesn't remember where you last logged off and just sends you back to your apartment. This might be beneficial for those who chose their starting place in a nice city, but was not so good for those of us who chose to make our home on a space station where none of the essential goods are available and we have to spend money to travel elsewhere, every time we log back on.

So then I headed to the place where I set up my mining order and checked the storage silo. My minerals were in there! Since the location I was at didn't have good production terminals, I tried to transport my mined items to my inventory by trying to transfer them to my character's name. See, you can't just drag and drop your items to and fro the storage silo. You have to put the items in the respective transfer slots and then select who you want it to transfer to. Unfortunately, this didn't work (it gave me a 'user not found' error) and I soon deducted that you couldn't transfer those materials into your inventory. No biggie, I thought, since you could transfer items from one area's storage silo to another area's storage silo. So I set up the transfer...and found out that it would take 2 hours to do the transfer. This didn't make me happy since it could have been way faster if I dropped the items into my backpack and just carried it over. But I considered it a minor setback and logged off for 2 hours.

I signed back on and paid the fee once again to leave that dreaded space station I started on. I headed over to New York City, which is where I transferred my mined resources and found a nearby processing terminal. Eagerly, I clicked on the carbonizer selection just to see...nothing. I couldn't turn the coal into carbon and I had no idea what to do. Clicking on refinery did indeed bring up the option to manufacture carbon but it required oils instead, which had the description of something relating to the manufacturing of fuel, but definitely nothing carbon-related. Deflated after all this wasted time, I signed off the game and uninstalled it.

Currently, I am reinstalling the game to give it one last spin before I call it quits until some future time down the road. I haven't tried combat at all so I can't comment on that but the manufacturing process is a bit too non-intuitive for newbies to easily grasp, and since mining costs both money and time, making a mistake like I did could just lead to a lot of wasted time. Sure, there will be detractors that denounce me for only trying to make one simple item, but the thing I fail to understand is why it takes so much work to just create 1 unit of plastic. And why I have to use a guide to figure out where to mine for my items instead of the game telling me what's available at what locations. Either way, I'm going to give this game one last spin before I call it quits or continues.

By the way, advice on what I did wrong would be appreciated. I'm still not quite clear on how the whole production/mining process works and the official forums didn't have much in the way of guides.

Using other factions armors even if they don't show up, will they be actually able to protect you? Or they are just equiped for nothing?

I have read your first experience. To your question why it takes so much time to make 1 plastic which you had to do for a basic production mission: When you join such a mission you receive the desired materials in your storage and you'll be able to produce it in 15 min. game time = 4 min real time.

I am sorry to say you jumped in the game and tried a part of it that wasnt functioning well at that time. It's a beta after all. Maybe not a beta most gamers are used too but still. And I'm also sorry to say they still haven't fixed these basic missions. When they do this game really will be more fresh starter friendly.
