    Go back to WoW.

The game IS Soloable. Most notably by the Dragoon and Beastmaster job classes. They've made the game a whole lot more solo friendly lately, but the game is based around community and teamwork. If you have trouble committing FFXI is not the game for you, and it'd be best if you just stuck with the low IQ games like RO, WoW, EVE, Guns, HL2, etc.

If you think FFXI is solo able you are most definatley kidding yourself. Although it is a good game. You really need to be a dedicated player to get through all the harsh leveling tredmill and problems finding people who want you in their group. In FFXI most people seem to be nitpicky about who is in their group.

What is there about grinding that requires a large amount of intelligence?

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

Frankly, if they make the game soloable, I will probably leave for Guild Wars or City of Heroes.

And, they HAVE upped the exp by at least x1.5. New Conquest Items...rings that multiply your experience by 1.5 or 1.75 (depending on which one you get).

if you think FFXI requires a lot of IQ or "Skill" then you might want to take another good look at the game.

The Beastmaster's specialty IS soloing, and it's actually pretty fun. Your ability to charm monsters and have them fight other monsters, or call monsters from jugged broths, isn't unique but it's a new take on it. They have many techniques to get themselves out of bad situations.

Dragoons can also solo fairly well, but it really only gets easier as they level. They can trigger healing breaths from their wyvern if they sub white mage by casting any spells. That means they can get a Cure IV for 2 mp. Not to mention they have a 25% damage bonus to flying monsters soloing can be extremely easy for Dragoons.

Just the other day I solo'd up 1000 EXP in Eldieme while I was skilling up my staff as Paladin. It wasn't that hard at but took a little longer than it would have in a party.

Nitpickey is usually Whm, Rdm, and Blm for obvious reasons; a tank, and two melee DD. Nitpicky = successful party.

Honestly, I think it'd be a strech to say that any MMO requires much skill or brainpower, or heck, not large amounts of anything beyond patience.

I have to agree w/ Teioh.

There are some basic skills you need to master for any game, but beyond that is is just fine tuning. At the sake of being called a fan boy, I also have to say that FF XI is definetly one of the more complex MMO'S out there to date. Ok, you don't need to do a lot in FF XI, but what u have to do, by god, you have to do it well. As a black mage, I have to know what elements the mobs are weak to, I have to have the appropriate elemental staffs equiped. The element of the day effects things. The time and moon cycle affects things. This is not the type of game EQ II or WoW were when I was playing them. On WoW as a mage... Um... Flash, Fire Bolt, Arcan Missle, Flash... Repeat... Omg the action was fast pace, but the repetition of the same thing w/o any skill chains or nothing... Boring... Did I mention you can solo all the way in that game as any class? Common People, FF XI is one of the most kick butt Fantasy MMOS out there. It has a 8.0 rating on this site, so it cant be bad... Of course Guild Wars has the highest ranking... Oh well, so much for taste.

As for solo factor of this game... Um why does everyone not consider the Beastmaster? Geezus if you want to flame this game for having no solo content, I suggest you get a clue. The fact is, if you really want to solo, you have to play a specific Job. Now this next comment might piss off some of you more socialy inept or selfish people, but FF XI hands down was made around team work and helping eachother out. You have to be nice, you have to know what the heck you are doing, and you have to be doing it well for everyone to level. I know, to some, egalatarianism is really streching it... If you want to do you solo crap, go play WoW and stop flaming FF XI.::::27::
