I wonder if the game is good or bad compered to wow... i have played wow for a week and it is so god dam boring.... now i wonder if eq 2 is a better choice? Has it more rpg style than wow or pvp? can you explore on your own or do you get knocked down and killed if you venture out of the road like wow??? seriosly... wow is boring and heartbreaking and the meager name makes me shiver!!!

Mye bedre enn WoW, stol p
it's a good game.. comparing it to WoW will only provoke a flame war so I advise you to just try it out yourself and see if you like it.
As to your questions I can honestly say that exploring is fun, especially if you have some sort of stealth ability or spell. Soloing is very feasible too and it's particularly easy as a Necro or Conjurer although I can't really say what it's like after level 25 because I haven't been there yet.
ps. I think you wanted to say 'The mere mention of the name makes me shiver'.. not meager
Have played:
UO, WOW, COH/V, EQ2

Just because he might not like mmorpgs doesn't mean he's not a 'gamer at heart', and it certainly doesn't give you the excuse to be condescending like that, sheesh.

And it's not just the combat, the trade skills are freakin' tough too. When you have to find the components to make a ingredient for an item that is only part of the thing you are actually trying to make...well, it boogles the mind to say the least. I think I'm going to have to start taking RL notes about some of the alchemy stuff in game if I want to understand it.
But, like you guys, I'm digging it. To many games have got "dumbed down" recently. It's refreshing to have to use your brain again when playing a game. It'll be good to get all the rust out of there.

Maybe I'm the odd man out here, but I don't think the games all that tough, unless you play a Priest class, then you have squat for DPS, so killing mobs can be a chore.
Now, the ratio of solo xp mobs to group heroic mobs can be tough sometimes, as in "tough luck if you can't find a group, no xp for you today". But unless you're trying to solo Heroic mobs, killing mobs isn't much of a challenge.
I am replying to this topic (in a rush) so, I just read the title.. sorry if I am answering the wrong question, im in a rush.
EQ2 ROCKS!!!
okay, im done :P
I thought that EQ2 was merely ok. It really doesn't bring anything new to the table but it does what it does good. It's one of the best MMORPGs on the market right now but that's because almost everything else sucks in one way or another. I like how they didn't dumb down everything and even the combat revamp made combat more fulfilling but the world is pretty bland I must say with a lot of repeated textures and there's really nothing much else to do but quest and craft (no politics, control of certain regions, etc...).
Shin'Ree Jailer in WC, solo on my 20 Necro. Not easy, though it would have helped if I had remembered my orc mastery spell
And they're also decreasing the hp of the heroic mobs next patch, if I read correctly, which will make it that much easier, not that cranking up the hp/dps of mobs makes them harder. Well, technically it does, but I think that's just cheap, as opposed to giving them good AI, and making encounters harder in that sense.
I just started playing more actively in the past week. I made a swashbuckler 5 days ago and currently am lvl 21 (40% to 22). The grouping is great, and the solo xp has increased significantely. I think EQ2 is definately becoming a great game. SoE seemed to wake up when the servers were dropping in population, and now the game has alot of new content.
Would be nice if they made the nonraid type dungeons like FG, Splitpaw, etc a bit more solo friendly. Like the little mini-dungeon I found in Thundering Steppes that asked if I wanted to go to the solo, or Heroic version. I was a bit short levelwise, so I didn't really do anything, but I would guess that the drops aren't as good, or as frequent in the solo version. Even if not, I'd be just fine with them doing it that way, and splitting the dungeons into a solo, and group version. Even if they weren't willing to do that, at leasst put in more nonheroic regular mobs, or put in more of the minidungeons so that those of us not blessed with a 24/7 group have more options as to what we can do.
I think that's about my only real major gripe with the game at the moment, other than Priest issues.
cause like totally it's like for a more mature audiance you know, AMAZINGGGGGG. like cause like it's like more like mature ya know.
I've played both, they are both fun, and both WoW and EQ2 have upsides (and downsides). It's all about personal preference my friend.
No. I loved WoW for about 4-5 months, but eventually I just got sick of riding a bird for 20 minutes just to get anywhere. The inevitable content gets stale when there's no real challenge or danger to it.
I'm playing EQ2 now because it doesn't bore me, and it's an MMORPG. The best one our right now as a matter of fact.
I don't know if I'd say it's the best one, but it'll have to do until I get my Vanguard beta invite.
Till then, I will continue to hound the art team for better armor textures(a pristine item shouldn't look like it just got pulled up from the wreckage of the Titanic, dammit) and more diveristy in color, and style.
Oh, and no SOGA models, either. Holy homoerotic halflings, Batman!
Theres 2 main reasons i will never come back to EQ2:
1) zoning - The game is anything but seemless, while in qeynos or freeport, you will zone every 5 minutes, EQ had zones, but nothing that compared to the constant loading screens you will see in EQ2.
2) Complete and utter lack of item diversity - The armor at level 20 will look the same as the armor at level 70, all the robes look the same with little variation between them, all the weapons look the same with little variation... speaking honestly, i have never seen an mmorpg that had so little gfx diversity in their armors and weapons, in the end, thats what made me leave above all else. For months now the devs promissed and never delivered on greater item diversity, and what is an mmorpg if you cant enjoy looking at your toon? else we would all still be playing muds.
All ur Mountain Dew is belong to me.
I actually find crafting easy to understand in this game. Maybe it's cause I am making food.
Why were you bored in WoW? Bad combat? Very simple game? What specificaly did you like/not like?
I find WoW to be faster, and combat a bit more involved in terms of skills/survivability. EQ2 is a bit slower, but has unique combat - although to me EQ2 combat trully shines in a group invironment. EQ2 is more longterm game becuase u level slower and in general you have to group more often. You can solo in both games (not sure about high end game, i never reached there in either game) but up to level 30ish you can solo no prob. In WoW, however, you can solo faster and only group for instances to get that extra exp/quest reward.
If i were to write one sentence id say WoW is for more casual players with little time and/or little experience in MMORPG and EQ2 is more for hardcore oriented players (groups, raids, high end content, very deep and complex tradeskills). In fact, EQ2 is a bit too deep, I personaly did not realy enjoy tradeskills and questing becuase they are more time consuming then doing the same in WoW, and time is something I dont have. But if you do, then you might like it.
Definitely try out the trial, but as many say, trial only shows you a small part of the world. You wont realy experience the game without going into FP and commonlands.
Hope this helps.
Peace
