I'm a hard core EQ2 player. However, Im feeling need for PvP. Played WoW other day on friends account. Loved the graphics and especially the PvP system. However, rumors have pushed me away from WoW. Will everyone please answer these questions HONESTLY?
1. How "long" is the game? Have a friend on EQ2 tell me that he played EQ2, switched to WoW, got to 60 within a month, and was done. That is way too quick for me. Sounds like it is missing content. To back this up, my friend is in his mid 20s, and he doesnt play that much. How fast do you lvl? Is there a lot to do in game so that I wont get bored? Believe me, I dont get bored with EQ2, there's so much to do! However, EQ2 is lacking in graphics and PvP.
2. How social is the game? Again, I've heard that the game doesnt promote grouping and socializing that much. When I played the other night, I rarely saw a group of people together, mostly people off doing thier own thing. My friend is in guild, but I noticed there wasnt much activity in it. He also was mostly a lone ranger, but he said that is because not alot of people are looking to group. He wants me to come to his game so that he'll have someone to group with. On his server, there were a lot of people there, but they didnt seem active.
3. Would any previous EQ2 player comment on the differences? Please dont be jerks and totally shoot down EQ2. Please give me some honest feedback on why WoW is better.

1. If you're casual and stick to one character you can get to max level within 2-3 months. If you're a hardcore player you can get there within 14 days! Its extremely fun to level up to max. Lots of quests and fun all the way up. Once you reach 60 there aint much to do but grinding for faction, doing the same instances over and over again till you get your epic items (heard people having to do them up to 25 times to get an item or simply give up on it), raids which require 40 people or pvp which is pretty pointless unless you're able to play 10+ hours a day in order to keep your rank.
2. The game is the least social I've ever experienced. All classes can solo all the way to 60 if you skip some of the quests and most instances that set you up against elite mobs and requires a group. Because of the quest system its hard to keep up with friends unless someone is prepared to do a quests they've already done (without getting the reward). And because of the bad community you'll often find that you dont really want to group.
3. My experiences with EQ2 were very brief so I'll let someone else compare the two games but IMO WoW aint a better game than EQ2.
1. It depends on how much you play. The first player to lvl 60 in Europe, did it in 9 days. But he locked himself into his room when the game was released and didn't come out before he was 60. And he skipped quite alot of quests and grinded instead. The game is as long as you make it. Play 10 hours a day and you are @ 60 quite fast. Play 1 or 2 and you will spend 1-2 months to get to lvl 60. In the beginning there wasn't much to do at lvl 60, but now Blizzard is starting to get around with the content. But the endgame basicly involves getting you epic set items, doing the big raid dungeons and pvp. So for the endgame it's really recommended that you are in a good and big guild.
2. I would say the game promotes grouping. You can't do any of the dungeons alone. Unless you are a lvl 60 running around in the lvl 15 dungeons. Quite alot of quests aren't really possible solo either so the quest system also promotes grouping. The problem with Wow's socializing is the players not the developer. Since it has about 4 million subscribers worldwide there are quite alot of assholes around. So even if the developer makes you group, you might not want to group because the people you group with aren't the nicest. But that depends on what server you play on. I have been lucky with my servers. Recently I did a realm transfer where alot of hardcore players transfered to the same realm. This server is really awesome people wise now. So it's all about getting the right server with the right people.
3. I have played EQ2 for about 2 months. Played to lvl 20.
*Graphics/Tech: Technically EQ2's graphics are better. It uses the latest tech and it has alot of detail.
But I prefer the art of World of Warcraft. You don't have the love and attetion to detail in EQ2 that you
find in Wow. Wow has seamless terrain and only instancing in dungeons and battlegrounds. There isn't
anything worse to the immersion than a loading screen that requires you to select Anthonica 1 or 2.
*Gameplay: Very similar. World of warcraft is more fast pased. World of Warcraft has PvP everywhere
if you play on a pvp server. I didn't really like the honor system though. Not so casual friendly. I
think a online game must have pvp.
*Grouping/social: I soloed to lvl 20 so I can't say much about grouping. But what I noticed is that the
population is very low. Atleast on the server I played (Splitpaw). I just saw 2-3 people at my lvl
range on at the same time as me. Cities where mostly just NPC's. In Wow you never have a problem
of finding people.
*Content: EQ2 has more content as far as I know. Never got to the endgame though.
*Fun: I found Wow more fun than EQ2. I'm more of a fan of fastpased games. And I don't spend that
much time playing so in Wow it's easier for me to achieve something.
I think if you are more of a pve player that likes to spend alot of time leveling EQ2 might be better for you. But if you are a casual player that likes to pvp and pve Wow is the game for you. This is my opinion.
