What has changed to SWG since WoW came out?

TermTerm Member Posts: 8

well i used to play on Lowca. i was master brawler / fencer / swordsman. i recently visited swg forums and saw there were very few servers compared to before, i'm guessing a lot of people left because of combat patch? i never even played i with the combat patch. i remember them talking about it for months and it never came out.

couple questions

is my build still good now? what about jedi?

well lowca no longer exists, does my character exist on a diff. server even though i canceled over a year ago?

was thinking about coming back, worth it?

i had an uber stun baton (pre nerf)316-322 dmg, would it still be there?

    1. Lowca is still there. No servers removed/merged. Click "Galaxies" title in forums.
    2. Your build should be ok to kill NPCs. I don't think that you need master brawler (take doctor/combat medic instead).
    3. Jedi is ruling galaxy and is most visible profession.
    4. Your character still should exists.
    5. SWG is now level based game. You kill easily enemies that are around your level or lower. There is no more uber buffs. Crafters haven't get much love (so if you have crafting profession you are still manufacturing same old things). Devs have used their time mostly rethinking Jedi profession (several times). Jump to Lightspeed expansion is not bad - if you like from space flying. Wookie planet expansion is full of quest where you go to point A and kill X monsters and then come back to point B and get reward C.
    6. Your uber stun baton is most likely useless. Uber weapons and items are coming now from quests (Wookie planet). Crafted items are generally worse.

    --> There are still the same servers. None has been deleted, none have been combined. Lowca is still there. Server activity has changed ... e.g. Naritus is quite active, Bria overpopulated and people have to transfer characters out (for free).

    --> Combat Revamp is now months old. If you are not used to it, combat will play like a totally different game. Let someone talk you through it or read the many info threads on the SWG forum. People left .. most came back after some time. Many more come from WoW these days after they have levelled 1-3 CL 60 toons on WoW. So basically number of subscribers is slightly higher than pre-CU and the loss of players has been compensated by others coming back or joining SWG with "The Total Experience" Box  ... which you should try to get ( Rage of the Wookies --> quests and rewards , Jump to Lightspeed --> Space Expansion ).

    --> Most likely not. Combat is different now. Read the info about the Combat Revamp on the SWG homepage and the forum. No more God buffs, most fighters can use ALL weapons now, combat levels and modifiers in PvE, no more domination of melee and mind attacks. Overall combat is more dangerous now and grouping is strongly rewarded, although soloing IS possible. My personal suggestion is that you get yourself some healer abilities.

    --> Lowca does exist.
    does my character exist on a diff. server even though i canceled over a year ago?
    --> If you have not DELETED your toon, it will still be there if you only put him into hibernation by cancelling.
    was thinking about coming back, worth it?
    --> IMHO yes.
    i had an uber stun baton (pre nerf)316-322 dmg, would it still be there?
    --> Yes, but it wont have transferred well into the new system. Other weapons you owned might be more useful post-CU. Check out the CU documentation. Get yourself some Katarn Knucklers from Kashyyyk :-)
    --> Have fun, Erillion

    I returned after being gone over 1 year also and the only thing I lost was my house and it's contents.  When I left I honestly didn't expect to be gone but a couple months so I didn't put much maintenance in and this was before SOE started automatically deducting maintenance from your characters funds.  If you left *exactly* one year ago your house etc might still be there.

    The game has evolved alot since you left.  I recommend in reality that you do what I did:  create a new toon on another server and start as a true newb again to learn the ropes.  I got a toon to CL10ish before I even did anything with my old main.  When you do return to your old main, you will have a "respec" option, but I recommend you click the "later" button and not use it until you know exactly what you are doing *and* are sure that is where you want to respec to.  I recommend that you *not* just go on the swg forums and ask advice and do it without learning the new system as you may end up getting frustrated.

    Also, when you return, many of your favorite old hang outs, hunting grounds, and pvp areas will be completely empty.  On my old server, Bestine and Anchorage used to be the place that everyone set up to PvP just about every night.  Anyhow, things have changed.  Most servers have moved to primarily hanging out in coronet, theed, dantooine mining outpost (or agro outpost), mos eisley, and possibly Nym's on Lok.  You will also find a lot of the BH community in Kaadara, Naboo.  I would say it is due to the free travel everyone got by owning a starfighter (with JTL).  Pvp will seem nonexistant compaired to previously, but it generally does exist.  Find out your server's faction channel and join it to learn more.

    That's about it for now.  If you want more advice feel free to ask here.  image

    so with the CU is master swords master doc still viable or have buffs been completely removed and/or made useless?

    if i had to respec i'd go swords smuggler as i had lots of fun with that combo "back in the day" (also i have a cache of weapons somewhere for both classes that may or may not still be useful) image

    and oh yeh, i hate jedi!! (in swg anyhow)
