Whether you listen or not that is your choice. And this is taken from the Guildwars main site:
Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game). Guild Wars was designed from the ground up to create the best possible competitive role-playing experience. Success in Guild Wars is always the result of player skill, not time spent playing or the size of one's guild. As characters progress, they acquire a diverse set of skills and items, enabling them to use new strategies in combat. Players can do battle in open arenas or compete in guild-vs-guild warfare or the international tournament. Engaging in combat is always the player's choice, however; there is no player-killing in cooperative areas of the world.
That was my first idea when it came to Guild Wars being skill based. My idea of "skill based" is how well the player performs using the tools at hand.

Didn't I tell you read over your stuff? Don't me take off my belt and whoop you son. Oh and by the way...
As characters progress, they acquire a diverse set of skills and items, enabling them to use new strategies in combat.
That's funny, everyone gets the same skills and feats. (sarcasm) Oh wait, they were referring to individual class skills. What an oversight on your part. (/sarcasm) Good night and good fight.
Heh. CaptainRPG thinks he's on a roll, so I doubt he'll shut up anytime soon. Oh well, this should be fun...
CaptainRPG, each and every complaint you've had seems to be taken out of every bad review known. It's almost like you copied and pasted this...pathetic excuse for an argument. Well let me explain something...
I work for a newspaper here in my hometown, I cover and entire videogame section. I've played more games in the last three years then you have in your entire life. So needless to say, I know what a game is.
Guild Wars tried to do something different. I like the game. It provided me with over 100+ hours of fun and is still rapidly growing. I never once got bored of this game to the point of quitting. Want to know which ones I have?
World of Warcraft Lineage 2 Martial Heroes Final Fantasy 11 Gunbound
Ahh that's only a little but I'm tired and wish to get to my point.
Those so called "real mmorpg" did nothing more then amuse me for two days before I decided that it wasn't worth it. Wrap your mind around this for a moment if you will.
Guild Wars is a new kind of MMOG. Do you know what's funny about that? It's also a new kind of ORPG. If you see another heated "Not an MMORPG" debate, be sure to point that out.
I continuasly see whiners and crybabies cry about the exact same thing OVER and OVER and OVER. It's like the crying bug hit everyone who has the gaming aptitude of a dung beatle. The same whinings spread around like wild fire. It's getting to the point when I see people like you, CaptainRPG, I can predict your words long before I ever read what you have to say.
Sadly, you lack originality. And this is not as fun as I thought it would be. Typing this out I mean, because I just realized you're not worth it. Nonetheless, I'll keep going.
Lets do something that will require a minute amount of intellect, try to keep up I'm not going to wait for you.
The very first MMORPG's started the foundation for future MMORPG's. However. one company after another saw making MMORPG's as a great way to not only get more fans, but make an extremely large sum of money. Pretty much, they jumped on the bandwagon, going along for the profitable ride. Many companies underestimated the task before them and the final release was mediocre at best (WoW, EQ2, Matrix Online). The typical MMORPG has become spoiled, overused, and amazingly boring. Oh sure, you can add a cool feature or two in it, make the graphics visualy amazing, all that good stuff. But in the end it is no different then any other MMORPG.
I like to go down to the roots of each game I play, and truly focus on the things that all the neat new features try to hide. At the core, 99% of all MMORPG's are level grinding, kid infested, overused, boring pieces of shit. Instead of hopping on the bandwagon, Anets first game together broke the mold, and although it did some drastic changes, some not even I liked, I didn't care. I liked this game because it TRIED to do something different, it TRIED to give gamers a new experience.
It tried and failed in some ways, but at least it still tried nonetheless. All of these other MMORPG's didn't try. They had some shiny new things to their games to attract the gamers and their wallets. Anet, however, made a game with no monthly fees. Not only does this mean they were trying to attract gamers, but they were also pretty much saying they are not after our cash. They truly love the work they did with their game. They are constantly improving the game so that if you really looked at it like I do, you will see the difference each time you login.
With all those MMORPG's, all I see is one pathetic update after another, tweaking this or that so they can justify their monthly fees. I felt something different from Guild Wars. It made it's own wagon, and future companies will be using what it did in new MMORPG's. None of these other MMORPG's will be able to claim that. Afterall, they just did what everyone else was doing. Like smoking cigarettes.
I like this game. It's different. And if you have a problem with that, CaptainRPG, then you can take it up with my middle finger.
Originally posted by zonzai Again skunk, it's 1-8, 4 vs. 4, 8 vs. 8 or 8 vs. 8 vs. 8 vs 8.OPThe point is mostly to play PvP. There are role-players in GW. There are even people who only play PvE. However, I don't recommend this game for people who don't like PvP, co-opertaion, competitive gameplay or tactics.
My point was that you can not have hundreds of players (in this case no more than 32: the same as any non-mmorpg) playing in the same zone/same time as you. Your 'correction' actually prooves my argument and is, therefore, moot.
Heh. CaptainRPG thinks he's on a roll, so I doubt he'll shut up anytime soon. Oh well, this should be fun...
Same could be said about you.

Post the reviews you claim I took my quotes from. Other than that, you're speak out of your ass.
I work for a newspaper here in my hometown,
Damnit, I forgot my hero cookies.
I cover and entire videogame section. I've played more games in the last three years then you have in your entire life. So needless to say, I know what a game is.
I've been playing games since Atari was a game system and not a game label and played PC game through 80s. I highly doubt any debts about game. I'm pretty sure your knowledge in today games and what gamers are looking for is solid in truth that there is God.
Guild Wars tried to do something different.
Which I noted in post. It completely shocks me to see a newspaper writer overlooking the obvious.
I like the game. It provided me with over 100+ hours of fun and is still rapidly growing. I never once got bored of this game to the point of quitting. Want to know which ones I have?
I still don't have a cookie for you and what you said pretty pointless.
World of Warcraft Lineage 2 Martial Heroes Final Fantasy 11 Gunbound
Do we care?

I'm sorry, but your opinion means little in the mass who think differently.
Guild Wars is a new kind of MMOG. Do you know what's funny about that? It's also a new kind of ORPG. If you see another heated "Not an MMORPG" debate, be sure to point that out.
Slowly, but surely, are you diverging from the so called point.
I'm sorry, but you could you please repost where I denounce GW as not being a good game? You say you can predict every word of my sentence, yet, you didn't even that I've been defending this game from those who would turn into an average rpg. The newspaper writer of his hometown, the infammable newspaper writer who sees all and knows, couldn't even see that.
Sadly, you lack originality.
So do you my friend. I've been on many forums and there are people like you who babble, saying they've seen it all and they can predict the nest move. Reality is your just another fanboy evanglist jumping on the bandwagon of stupidity, preaching against the so-called "nay-sayers," some of whom are on your side if care to read their post.
And this is not as fun as I thought it would be...
Mindless rambling...(skip)
Lets do something...
More mindless rambling...(skip)
The very first MMORPG's started the foundation...
More mindless rambling...(skip) and skip the other mindless paragraph of rehearse crap. Copy and paste stuff that already been quoted; nice hypocricy philosophy you have here.
With all those MMORPG's, all I see is one pathetic update after another, tweaking this or that so they can justify their monthly fees.
Interesting, Lineage had 4 millions of players and EQ had 1.2 millions of players. Guild Wars had 600,000 players within the first three months while WoW within the same 3 month period acquired 1 million players. Mind you, that you can't cancel your account to Guild Wars because if you did, the actual figures would be smaller. But that's not the point, the point is that other MMORPG games acquired such a big fanbase they are from pathetic andprove your opinions are nothing mindless fanboy ramble.
I felt something different from Guild Wars.
I felt something in my pants too...no wait that was a fart. Any GW is an average game that'll appeal to some, but not all gamers. Is it a bad game. Far from it, it got a million players to play the game, but it's the best out there, nope.
It made it's own wagon, and future companies will be using what it did in new MMORPG's. None of these other MMORPG's will be able to claim that.
It's nice how contradict yourself in these two sentences.
I like this game. It's different. And if you have a problem with that, CaptainRPG, then you can...
Just shut up okay, you've embarassed yourself enough.
I was right! I knew exactly what you were going to say in your so called comebacks.
You're quoting every single paragraph to make your comebacks look longer but they're nothing but short sentences centered around pathetically thought up insults that a 12 year old could think up.
Damn, CaptainRPG, how do you live with yourself? When you can come up with a better comeback then that, then let's talk. But until that time comes then I'm done with you. Go back to your game, little boy and insult the newbies there. They might actually think it's something.
Uhh, whos we? As far as I know, NO one is on your side!
So far, I see disagreeing posts from people I've burned in past topics for speaking non-sense. It won't be surprising if I get another gang following who following me around to disagree to simply disagree. (Which is what they did to me and other people on other forums.)
Whether you're arguing comics, religion, everyday life, morals or games, they are always narrow-minded people who categorize people and trade their intelligence for insults and patience for un-inspiring rabble. Not only do I see in this forum within these posts, but in other forums like EQ and WoW. I'm on neither side, I'm staying netural so you can disagree all you like that's what you and some others plan to do anyway when intelligence insulted.

In my opinion, you don't seem to be neutral, but infact bashing everyone..

That's what netural posters do, they are neither for or against. Check the other posts, I argue with those who bash this game and I argue with those who offer ideas that would make the game average.
I agree I find the game basically boring. I did the alpha and that did more to turn me off than anything else. I got a copy of the game via a guild raffle, and tried it after release. I still got bored by it. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
You know what I find odd? A text based game can be considered an MMORPG while for some reason people have an ulcer at the thought that GW is considered one...
Guild Wars is inherently frustrating because as you go up in ranks and get more and increasingly powerful skills and abilities, you are still stuck with 8 little boxes at the bottom of your screen, without even being able to switch in a mission. At least in WoW you get to use all of the cool abilities and powers you worked so hard for. I'm gonna re-activate my WoW acount soon to have myself some real fun!

I'm thinking about re-opening my account after the expansion comes out.

The quote I used referred to player skill and that quote refers to the actual "skills".
