Perhaps hiring mods would be the answer.

Why hire someone when you can get quality for free?

if you have a problem with a thread, report it. Making a vague statement about the staff doesn't do anything for anybody.

Make of it what you will.

That would be nice, but I don't think theirs dropped yet. Can't get quality for free apparently.

It would help if you provided more information on a problem you are having. If it is with a particular moderator, then pm them and discuss the issue.

If you moderators identified yourselves when deleting posts, locking threads, and sending emails, I could, but for now, it's an educated guess. There should be an identifying tag on deleted posts similar to edit tags, identifying who is responsible, so everyone can see a pattern if certain moderators are targeting specific forums for protection or stalking certain individuals with whom they disagree. Sending emails signed "the staff" is not helpful. Professionals don't need to hide their actions and should be willing to explain themselves.

I doubt discussion with the suspected moderator would be fruitful though, since I am not even given the courtesy of an email explanation on why a certain post violates the rules and is deleted. Every deletion deserves an email explanation. How is someone supposed to know what the specific problem is in order to avoid it in the future if you don't tell them?

Of course, everything can be wrapped in the general category of trolling which is completely subjective. Discussion/debate by it's very nature warrants response and when you have opposite views held, both camps could claim the other side is trolling. Adults however don't play that game and are capable of filtering out which posts are valid and which are not, and don't need to delete posts or have them deleted because they disagree with the viewpoint expressed.

Less moderation on this site overall would be the answer, but unlikely, when you delve into why someone would volunteer their time freely for a profit company to begin with. Certainly gamers are not needy of someone's volunteerism, but perhaps those who moderate for a profit company for free are needy, needy for some control and power which escapes them in real life, and therefore they would be unwilling to hold back their impulse to moderate often.
