you should take at least a days break now...

    Addictions aren't healthy.

It's recommended that you take a 15-30 minute break for each 2 hours of gameplay doing something more active.  Like taking your dog for a walk.

My longest stint was in college cramming in two huge reports and group presentations for class, up for 49 hrs straight slept for 6 hours up for the next 17 hrs. I was fine....but again I was moving around and staying active. What is more interesting is my friend who thought it would be fun to try and stay up for 100 hrs straight. Seeing him go through this was one of the funniest things I have ever been around. for the first 72 hrs no real problem or oddity besides the fact that he was attempting such a feat for the hell of it. On his fourth day of consciousness (and I use that is the loosest meaning of the word) his motor functions were starting to slow down along with his thought processes. He started explain that he would think about something , such as grab that glass of water, then about 3 seconds later his body would actually then go into motion. It was like he was on time delay, and right before he collapsed ( near or at hours 88-89) out of sheer exhaustion he was saying whenever he turned his head the world would smear (everything had trails coming off of them) then catch up and snap into place.

Note to self.....Get some sleep every once in a while.

Have fun playing your games, just remember they are only games....addictions fall hard.

So i gotta get rest and take pills

Wow! You must be pretty sensitive to caffeine if it had that affect on you. Pretty scary stuff. Yeah chances are your Heart rate was zooming and that could lead to a Heart Attack. Well hopefully thats all behind you and never happens again.

Caffeine affects everyone differently. I personally knock out "almost" a pot of coffee before every workout. My gf just drinks one cup and she's bouncing off the walls.

sleep is for weak minds, people that work for a living, or those buying into the ritual of corporeal reality.

For those supporting the scam sleep as a basic 'human' need because inadequatcy decreases : performance, concentration, reaction times, information learning consolidation; and increases: memory lapses, accidents, behavior and mood problems.

The body rests during sleep, the brain remains active gets "recharged" and still controlls bodily functions (eg. breathing and heart beat...) typically during sleep one shifts between two states (i.e. REM [Rapid Eye Movement] and non-REM) in 90 min cycles. That non-REM sleep has four stages ranging from drowsiness to deep sleep where the most positive and restorative effects occur. REM sleep is active in that dreams, breathing and heart rate increase and become irregular, muscles relax and eyes move back and forth under the eyelids.

One complete sleep cycle lasts about 90 to 100 minutes; therefore during an average sleep period a person will experience 4 to 5 complete sleep cycles. The sleep cycle begins with four stages of SWS (Slow-Wave Sleep), also called NREM (Non-REM). Note that after the completion of the 4th stage, the 5th stage does not immediately begin; instead, the first 4 stages quickly reverse and are then immediately followed by a REM period. The first REM period will occur roughly 90 minutes after falling asleep; thus the first REM period will last only about 10 minutes, given the length of each sleep cycle being roughly 100 minutes. The length of the stages is not static, however: as the night proceeds, the length of stages 3 and 4 (also called delta or deep sleep) begins to wane, and the length of REM sleep increases, up to about one hour in length after a number of cycles. Therefore, as the night goes on, you dream for longer periods of time.

fyi: sws1 alpha and theta brain waves (4 to 8 Hz,) sws2 theta, spindles, k-complexes (8 to 15 Hz,) sws3 delta and theta ( 2 to 4 Hz,) sws4 delta and theta (0.5 to 2 Hz,) REM5 beta (>12 Hz.)

Insomnia, (i.e. difficulty falling asleep, waking up too early, frequent awakenings, and waking up feeling unrefreshed) can be a symptom of a sleep disorder or other medical or psychological/psychiatric problem. 58 percent of adults in this country reported at least one symptom of insomnia in the past year. ( National Sleep Foundation's 2002 Sleep in America poll.)

In the deprivation addictive gaming process one can go 3 to 5 days using a 2 hr nap/ 6 hr play sequence.
Besides one needs to take breaks (eg. getting fresh drinks, bath room breaks, getting to stove before food burns smoking up the house and setting off smoke alarms) getting up and moving around also helps restore circulation (clot in leg moving up to lungs can cut short a gaming session, so keep active.) Also the enzyme / hormone secretion process in sleep helps lower blood pressure, avoiding that and excitement in gaming can be cause for heart attack.

Perhaps - but there is something really enjoyable about curling up in a warm bed when it's all dark and stormy outside.
Especially when you are phyisically worn out as well :::^)::

tell you what happens from military point of view people in the military will tell storys of how they stay up 7days straight not true sleep is required when people sleep the heart actually slows down it rests.Staying up too long for days without needed sleep the heart doesnt get the needed rest henceforth it gets tired resulting in heartfailure or long term heart damages. So sleep when needed the damn game will be there when you awake the next day.

Actually youll struggle with trying to stay awake, then after a certain amount of time (assuming you can stay awake) you will begin seeing things, your mind will effectively shut down and you will have a hard time processing information. This will then follow with medical problems.

Seals or any special opt teams go through training to train there mind so they can take quick naps when able to yet still be able to wake up quickly or even stay alert. There are moments when they take rest or bunker down in the field and its important they get some amount of sleep but when they do its 10 min here 15 min there. Yet these guys are well trained, if some thing goes down they will pop awake and be ready to go, fully alert.

If you get to a point were your so addicted that you cant step off your PC for a few hours and grab some shut eye you have a problem and need to seek help cause if you don't and you continue doing it, it will kill you.

Me I used to getting little to no sleep and am addicted to MMO, I also have training in this area. However even with the training and addiction to MMO, I will still get off and go lay down and sleep for a few hours.

There is no game worth risking your life or your health over. If you have reached a point were you are willing to risk your health and life for a game you need to seek help. Thats my advice but its your life.

    btw,
if you go to sleep, others will get all the loot that should have been yours, and somehow 'magically' activate your in-game character, kill it and loot all it's possessions !
    ...dream about dat...

Bhug, I just got to say that that is some cold stuff to say to paranoid sleep deprieved players. All of the sudden I get the image of some guy nevously sweating over his keyboard frantically trying to farm while in the background you hear Cake's "The Distance" playing on the radio. "He's going the distance...he's going for speed.....all alone , all alone in his time of need..." So sad....So sad....

Dont be this guy....get some sleep!!

I would sleep however, and stop to go out and eat, or whatever.Thinking back, it's really not healthy to put that much time into a game. Your health, cleanliness, diet, and pretty much everything suffers... as well as friendships and family.I really think that when we find ourself playing a game for say more then 8 hrs straight, we should all really think outloud to ourselves"Am I actually having fun, or am I playing to try and hit some goal of uberness?". Chances are by the time you've been absorbed in a game for over 8 hours straight, the actual fun level has went way down since you logged on, and now it is just the addiction of trying to make one more level or make one more skill point, or whatever that drives us keep playing and playing and playing.I haven't ever played for so long straight, but I have been in your shoes with all the weird feelings and exhaustion however. Get some sleep, seriously! And do something outside tommorrow for atleast a few hours, it will do your deprived body some good, trust me.

I never play for more than 18 hours or so...maybe 24 hours a long time ago...dunno, after 6 hours I lose mucho efficiency and it get worser with every new moment on the computer (thereby the diverging opinion, some folks think you are the best chanter on the server, some other think you lack beyond comon sense).  At around 14 hours or so, my head start to hurt.  It is genuine at start, so often I don't realize it till the pain is strong, at which point I stop.

However, in my life, I once try to do stuff non-stop which involve lot of physical effort (nothing harder than running, bu usually walking), drinking much and everything.  After about 50 hours of no sleep at all I stop doing any physical activity to take a break and my friends forget to keep talking to me, what seem to be 5 minutes...but what turn to be like 5 or 6 hours (I got good friends, when I didnt react to my name, they let me sleep, usually any word would wake me from the deepest slumber, my name even more).  I keep going without much sleep up to the point of 80 hours or so (still have 5 or 6 hours of sleep).  When I drop into my bed, I wake up nearly 24 hours later, assuming I sleep like 12 hours, let me tell you, it is freaky.  You wake up thinking it is 6 am, and it is 6 PM!  I was a young adult.  Now at 31, I don't think I could be up that much even if I would try, after 40 hours it would be impossible to deal with my inner child, it would be sleep no matter the situation if it is not life threatening, no ego no nothing but sleep. :)

Stopping every few hours is a good idea, at the very least after 6 hours you really need that break.  Go outside to refresh your eyes.  I know, I love those games, but you really need to stop often, every hour would be optimal, but let's face it, every 3 hours is still fine(often hard to take breaks more often with how the MMOs are built)...every 6 hours is a minimum IMO.

Did you folks know, that your body will die of lack of sleep, faster then lack of water?

Staying up late isn't a game.

Literally, staying up 100 hours would kill somone, no questions.
