What are you insane Hard Core Member, SWG never was even remotely like the Star Wars Universe. It was a bad game come out the door, but what can you expect with a company like SOE. The game was EQ meets Eve Online. It was all about an econemy nothing more nothing less.
The game was so badly made it wasn't even funny. I dont agree that it wouldnt work because SW wouldnt work as RPG it was just designed badly. It was centered in the wrong time period and was to econemy driven.
What they should have done was go back about 1,000 years before the clone wars right when the Republic formed and based it around that time period. There they could had the Jedi and had the republic and add a lot in to the game with out being confined to the movies, at least for the most part.
The problem I had with SWG was one it was to boring and econemy driven and less adventure driven (which is sad cause it really could have been more adventure driven) and they tryed to throw in the jedi in time when the jedi didnt exist. The classes were badly made for the most part and the game was stale and lacked any real depth to it. It didn't even remotely feel like the SW universe.
SOE should be taken out back and shot for destroying a perfectly good idea but hey this is SOE were talking about. They dont care about quility they care about money and always will which is why there games are so bad now. Thats my opinion any way.
The very successful Knights of the Old Republic was a FPS? So...No to your statement.
That is the problem with generalizations.... they don't fit everyone, not even "most" (I love that word, you say nothing, yet it sounds much). Personally I know about 3 or 4 people who would play an RPG oriented SW MMO, *if* there would be a good one.
This thread has slid a little in it's actual topic, but this poster brings up an excellent point... KOTR and KOTR II are high calibur games, and further proves, that is done right, a SW MMO is not only plausible, but a shoo-in for success... If everyone who bought KOTOR and II had a viable option for SW MMO, how many subscribers would join up? Millions! Back to what I said originally, I honestly forgot that SWG existed when my friend and I instinctively lamented on the lack of a SW MMO, with this in mind, how many people who have played the polished KOTOR series would even entertain the idea of signing onto the current SW MMO? Not too many, all they would have to do is a little research before quicly deciding that it is not worth their time... It is a crying shame really... If George Lucas took the time to fly 2 feet above the ground for once, he would see the millions (possibly billions) of dollars being wasted on not having a high calibur SW MMO...
Originally posted by Azirophos Originally posted by Elnator Star Wars should really be an MMOFPS with good story content and possibly quest systems to get neat items. SWG really doesn't cater to the true star wars fans because most star wars fans enjoy a much more FPS style game. We love missions and quests and finding cool items but we don't like having to "level" in a game.I like SWG, don't get me wrong, but the whole system being a traditional style MMO hurts the game balance really. Not to mention having Jedi in the current timeline of the game really kills it for me.But overall this 1 point is very valid: Most Star Wars gaming fans are NOT looking for a traditional MMORPG, they want an MMOFPS.

That was a single player game, not an MMO. I liked KOTOR very much but I don't think it could be done as an MMORPG. What made KOTOR so fun was the story revolved around the player. You can't do that in an MMO. Or... rather... it's very difficult to do.

I dissagree but hey I've been wrong before. I think an FPS version of SWG would go over very very well. Keep the abilities, skills and crafting system get rid of the mad monster dash and instead of point and click make it FPS against storm troopers, rebel troops, smugglers, pirates, thieves, evil aliens, etc. I think it would be a smash hit.
That's just my personal preference, however.
Yes, KOTOR did well, as did KOTORII. However, ALL of the Jedi Knight games were more successful than either of the KOTOR games.
Also: The big thing that made KOTOR and KOTORII so good was that the story evolved around THE PLAYER. What you did had impact on the entire game. In an MMORPG it's very rare to see that kind of customized adventure feel. You aren't alone in the world in an MMO so it can't revolve around you. It has to take into account all the other hundreds of thousands of players.
I think KOTOR was great. I just don't see how it would have translated well to an MMORPG. I play it frequently and, in fact, I am currently playing it as a break from MMORPG's. Like I said, KOTOR and KOTOR2 are both great games but I don't see them translating into an MMO. I think they could do very well as a CORPG (A-LA NeverWinter Nights) but an MMORPG wouldn't revolve around the players as much as those style games can.
I will say this: To those who keep griping about the holo having killed SWG for you then maybe you should give it another look. Because the holo grind was taken out over a year ago.

I would agree with you once HellGate: London comes out, let us see how the very first MMOFPS actually turns out... I guess you could consider me a holocron griper, but the sad truth is that all of those nasty grinding sessions spent in the hopes of attaining a Jedi have left a long-lasting and permanent bad taste in my mouth... You cannot expect people to give it another shot when the grinding was soooo extreme and soooo monotonous, and now Jedi are as commonplace as a Jawa... Some say CU ruined SWG, I think it was the holocron-orgy that really did it in... As soon as everyone got a holocron for a x-mas present, guilds disbanded, professions were abandoned and everyone strictly hunted for holocrons... I was like a crack addict man, seriously, always after that next fix... Once I figured out that the "Abandoned Rebels" were the primary source of holocrons, I nearly wet my pants and hunted them for 3 straight days, even took time off of work... Then they stated they were going to change everything about the process of becoming a Jedi, and that really made people angry... Hell, thats what made me left, that and all of the broken professions... Speaking of which, have they fixed any of those yet? Smuggler? SL? CH? BE? DE? Chef?

I say they take WoW and swap all the skins, items, cities, names, and graphics for Star Wars ones.
If it had UO's skill system I would be happier, but a WoW SW game would hold me over.
