Best Competitive MMO Game

I want a game that has a great competitive feel to it.  So some suggestions or comments would be great.  Here are a few things I'm looking for if you care to recommend something as well.

- Moderate Time (few hours a day)

- A LOT OF PLAYERS ONLINE

- Simple to play, hard to master

- Moderate System requirements (512 RAM, G4 4200 Vid Card, Cable)

- RPG Element (Build up something as you play)

- Good community

>.>  so I'm looking for a game where I can be part of a war, have something to show for the time I spend playing and a generally fun game where one thing or another doesn't make the game sux, hence low populations, hardware crashing, lag, crappy admins, noobs owning experts.  Any genre is fine too, RTS, FPS, RPG or whatever the mix is image  thnx for any replies :P

But who will guard the guards?

Hmm I think I might know just what your looking for. DAoC has everything you listed...

    except 1

The population of DAoC is pretty low but if you played The classic server gareth and played on hib I bet it wouldn't be to bad. Defanantly check out the 14 day trail.

Dark Age of Camelot - Leaton 50 Vampiir - Lamorak - Guild: Magic and Mayhem!

World War 2 online is what you should try as soon as 1.20 goes live which will prolly be this week.  It's easy to learn very hard to master.  You gain rank to access better equipment, but day 1 you can kill a 4 year vet if you have steady aim.  The war is on a massive scale and can take up to a couple months to determine a victor.  I think the game is on war 25 now (thats 25 wars since the game went live in 2001).

From your description you really should try it out.

    Ultimate Pvp..... EVE

Not so simple to play, but there is always new things to discover and master....

All the other choices are excellent also!

Witty saying to amuse you goes here.

Guildwars might be the best choice for you. Sad thing is that while the game is quite newbie-friendly, the community mostly isn't. Eve does require a lot of time before you can REALLY start PvP.

My best suggestion would be DAOC. It's still got a lot of subscribers and the classic servers (which are the only ones worth playing, imo... that patch just plain SUCKED, I'm SOOOO glad they made classic servers) are very populated. The rest are pretty empty but the classic servers are always full of players. DAOC you can participate in PVP as early as level 18 and it's a TON of fun. There are battlegrounds for low to mid level players and by level 40 you can go play with the 'big boys' in RVR. The PVE side of the game is well done as well and crafting and player run economy are very good as well.

EVE is worth giving a try but don't be surprised if you find it boring. It's NOT a game for everyone. Very realistic but with it's realism comes the realistic boring times. Not a fast paced game by any stretch of the immagination, except for battles themselves.

Anarchy Online is another good solid PVE/PVP game that has a lot of potential but it suffers from lack of players in a big way.

Asheron's Call on the Darktide server is very solid as well, though it is in the same boat as AO with a bad lack of players.

GuildWars is NOT an MMO it's a CORPG with MMO aspirations. There is no depth to it at all. I would suggest staying away from it as anything other than a casual 'every now and then mayhem' kind of game. And it's community is just flat out awful. Personally I own it and play it occasionally but it's not a game I think of when someone asks about an MMO to play. Because it's just not an MMO in any real sense of the term.

UO is also a good game with solid PVP but is really empty now. The addition of Trammel ruined it and it's been slowly dying ever since. Sad really, because prior to Trammel it was the king of MMO's in my opinion.

Lineage II has decent PVP but the game is horridly boring otherwise and you do NOT want to try to PVP till you reach max level (which is up in the 100's somewhere and will take FOREVER to reach).

Irth looks promising but it's not near ready yet. I wouldn't waste your money on it.

DAOC, EVE and AO all have free trials. I'd recommend trying those three before any of the others.

World of warcraft-Great game I played it pretty much on and off, and when school got back around and running I played it pretty casual, but its not really for the casual player unless you don't min the time it will take you. Lots and LOTS of pvp, only 1 of the 3 battlegrounds really into any use. 4 races several classes per race. 1 unique class per allience. 2 sides horde and allience. lot of items and places to go. Crafting is sorta boring in this game as it is click click and done.

EQ2-only played till i was levl 12 paladin and 12 craft, from everythign i saw it was a nice game played with alot of high level chars that helped me out, was alot of fun and the crafting was the best i have ever seen. But the game requires alot of system specs to even run. 256 bit card, 2.6ghz processor 512 ram and I was lagging incredibly bad that is why i am currently retired from the game till i get alittle bit more ram. Lots of classes and things ot do in this game, HUGE grind and now with the new expansion pvp is now availible so that adds somethign else to do.

City of heroes-Best customization out right now as you will never find someone that will look the same as you do. No items to really get other then inspiration and like little power ups. But with the release of CoV in 2-3 days pvp will be availible making the game alot better. other then that this game gets really repetitive. not much to do but in the beginning it is alot of fun.
