Can someone please explain "open" beta in November ???

I went to d&l website and signed up for beta a few weeks ago. Then i read on another forum that open beta starts in November but i also read conflicting things about it not really being beta. Then others say it is because your toon will get wiped once the actual game begins in April 06.

So what exactly is this november thing ? Did I sign up for that and if not it it something different ? Someone else mentioned buying the game and using the cd key to get in November to play but no monthly fee.

The d&l forums werent any help. Anyone here can explain all this ?

Its Simple, In November(ETA yet to be known) a prelude to DnL, called SOG(Settlers of Garneth) will come out. You can play for free untill DnL comes out in april 06. In SoG, you can make ur charecter a actual part of the final game that comes out in 06.

Yes, thats what it states EXCEPT the last line. There is no confirmation that the char's created in the SOG will in fact be able to be brought into the new DNL.

Its not exactly clear what features will be in it either. chances are good it will be very dumbed down. Also, not everyone will get in.

SoG is not a dumped down DnL its a different game with different gameplay. Not all features will be in SoG at release they will be added along the way as the get ready. Its free to play SoG. If you like it play it do something else if you dont like it.

No Key required to play Settlers of Ganareth. Just wait for them to announce its open, and then download it and play.

They have stated that closed beta will continue throughout this period of time til Apr 06

They have stated that there will be a stress test for the servers in November, this is an entirely seperate thing from the Settler's of Ganareth release.

Settler's of Ganareth is NOT an open beta, at least they are not calling it that. People who play will not be required to make bug reports, as to whether or not we will be able to make such reports at all I don't know. Alchemic Dream has live events planned for SoG and some effort has been made to incorporate Guild history and Guild quests for several of the guilds that had been signed up.

But obviously the game is not completed, they will be building in features as we play SoG. But anyhow even after a game goes live they keep building in new features and such so this is nothing new.

They never said that the SoG game would be restricted to certain individuals.

I heard its gonna be ready by Thanksgiving.  Thats the date people are saying on the DnL forums.

Youve got to be kidding. If you believe that SoG is a standalone product, what the hell are the devs wasting time for making SoG when DnL has already missed two release dates and is over a year late?

Why would the devs go to the trouble to make a completly seperate game? SoG is from what I believe, DnL in its current state with a different title. What you will see in SoG is what is currently playable in the game, so chances are you wont see sieges or anythign of the economic systems or most of the cool features that everyone is excited about DnL for. Also, the "lore" they included in the SoG newsletter may backup reasoning for this but we all know, unless you are just fooling yourself, that its only because those features arent anywhere near playable.

Well... No one really knows for sure. all we know its in November. There are 20 more days to go in this month and out of these 20 could be the day it is ready to download and play.
