Help or Advice needed for this game

checkthis500checkthis500 Member Posts: 1,236

I have several problems with this game, but I thought maybe some of you could help me out with this since the people that post here probably play the game.

1. Race selection: How the heck do you know which race is good with which action set?

2. No Tutorial:  I think the game could use a mandatory tutorial at the beginning, something short to get you used to the controls and everything else.  I know there's an optional tutorial thing to go through, but I found that mind-numbingly boring.  I'd rather do the basic quests or have a little starter thing to get a feel for the game.  EQ2 had a great tutorial, and so did EVE (though it was slow, it covered everything so that people weren't lost)

3.  Content:  I have no idea what I'm supposed to do next, or for that matter how to tell the con level of monsters, or if they're aggressive or not.  Is there a way that I'm missing?

4.  Not a fan of the way your character goes invisible when you hover the mouse pointer over them.  But thats not something anyone can help with, is just urks me.

5.  Is there PvP in this game?  I couldn't find anything about it on the site or in the game.

So I'm kind of lost with this game after a day of playing, and I'm about to uninstall it even though I still have 6 days left on the free demo.  But I dont want to judge it before I know if I"m missing anything.  Any help or advice would be helpful.

    There' s a section for new players on the official boards where you can post all your questions, shouldn' t take long before someone posts a reply; or you can just use the search function for your queries.
    Most of these seem to be quite common.

    Here goes:

    1) Races are only different from eachother in that they each have a slight bonus in magical resistance towards magic from their domain. For instance a Fyrosian, desert people, will have a higher natural resist towards spells of the desert domain.
    Another thing to keep in mind is the religious preference of each race: Kami for Zorai/Fyros, Karavan for Matis/Tryker. This dictates your respawnpoints and possible allegiance to a faith/faction. However this can be worked around should you wish.

    2) Tutorial, yes, it lacks. There' s some very basic explanations but you leanr much more from experimenting yourself and asking other players. (or again, the new player boards) The game has a very steep learning curve ar first but once you get through the editing of stanzas and skills it will all become a lot easier. There is no right way to do things, it all comes down to preferences. Also note, you can' t break a character or make one unplayable.

    3) Yes, the game won' t spoon-feed you. There are no quests, however there are more 'realistic' missions which can possibly grant you access to encyclopedic Rites, ritual missions after which you get passed down lore, learn new skills and actions, or get stat boosts. Other than that; explore, because Atys is a vast place with many dangers, hence it can be quite an adventure to get to a specific spot; mingle with the players during both player and official events; if you are more RP inclined, then enjoy a barnight, get drunk, pick up a girl or just start a bar brawl; gather materials for the crafter that agreed to craft you an armourset; go on a hunt for rare animals that drop exquisite materials; or join up with a faction and help out with the building of the new temples atm. Plenty to do, the decission as to what is just up to you.

    4) Character fading can be disabled in the game configuration ingame under graphics

    5) There are 2 types of PvP present in the game (3 if you count duel challenges):
    *PvP areas in the Prime Roots, which are the most dangerous areas on the known world and that contain the most prized materials
    *FvF faction vs Faction conflicts where homins are divided into two camps, Karavan and Kami, who fight for control over precious materials needed for the construction of previous mentioned temples and sanctuaries in the name of their gods.
    Personally I' d say that due to the huge difference in levels the PvP aspect of the game might be a lot harder to participate in for newer players, but hey, that' s just me.

    I hope this shedds some light on things.

    Final note; on the official website there' s a whole getting started section to be found. I suggest you read that through togheter with the lore of the game, also to be found there, as it might give a better view on the whole thing.

    I agree with Calal but just came in here to warn you.  PvP in the game is target and click.  Levels and gear (no uber drops so gaer can be pretty uniform) are 95% of the 1v1 fights.  Pretty much if your new (i.e. lower level) your cannon fodder image

    I'm starting to see how someone said this game was similar to EVE, which I love.  I played this game to see how well someone put into place the open-endedness of EVE into a land-based game.

    Thanks for the help.  My problem was that since there's a start island thing, I had no clue how to ask the simple questions, and I didn't wanna clutter up the chat with them.  You've been a big help, and I'll keep at this game for the 7 day trial.  Thanks again.

    best advise i can give to any new player is to ask questions in region chat ;-) while a lot of the player base disagree and fight with each other on the forums we are all (all) helpful and understanding to new players. You wont get called a noob or flamed if u ask stupid questions so dont be afraid to spam the chat channels with any stuff u dont get :)

    Hey!

    Have you ingame music yet????
    I played in july,but it's not working...

    There is limited in game music.  It is in the Cities for the most part, during teleportation, and if you are unconscious(quite soothing music actually).  Beyond that, you probably would not want music.  The environmental sounds are incredible.  If you  have surround sound or headphones it is even better.  You can actually here an animal walking up behind you, and from which side behind you it is coming.

    Also, there is an in-game MP3 player if you really need music.  A few people on the game forums have listed tracks that go well with the game.  I really think it is better without.

    Noin.

    yeah, but if you do, just be warned that you'll "lose support" from the Company if you run into problems (I have never ran into any by doing it tho."

    <snip>
    To change your camera zoom distance max value:

    - close all instances of ryzom related programs
    - locate ../Ryzom/client.cfg
    - open with your favorite text editor

    - search for the following line near the bottom of the text file (must have ten trailing zeros!)...
    CameraDistMax = 5.0000000000;

    Modify it to 10.0000000000; or 50.0000000000; or 100.0000000000;
    Note that it is VERY important to have ten 0s after the decimal and then the semi-colon

    - save the text file and load ryzom, enjoy!

    Oh also, besure you backup the file first before changing it, in case you messed something up without realizing it.

    Just remember that editing your ini file voids your right to tech support cause it breaks the EULA as its considered modifying the game.

    Just so you know.
