you might want to make the thread title something remotely relevant.

Make of it what you will.

  • You download it, enter your login information to the personnel jacket, then do the training. After you complete your basic training, you can play on servers.

Not really a MMO though ;p

Surely the question is WHY the hell would you want to play it!? ::::03::

Well..... I play it because I like tactical FPS games. I own every Rainbow 6, Ghost Recon, and Socom game. In these kinds of games, realism is everything and you can't get any more authentic than content produced by the US Army. Throw in the fact that it's free and you've got a winner. My question to you is: Why don't YOU want to play it?

BTW, I also really like Operation Flashpoint and Counter-Strike. Although Counter-Strike is a bit on the arcadey side.

Well, it's authentic visually at any rate. The bullet drop and lethality feel pretty spot on as well. They also just added rag doll physics which is kinda cool. It doesn't make up for the lack of gore that really should be present given the subject matter. Still no vehicles or heavy ordinance, but it's still the best you can do for free.

if they added gore it might discourage people to join the army. Rofl ::::01::

Hell i did'nt write THAT! I reckon the american army probebrly would be the least relaible source for genuine combat simulation!

No but seriously Black Hawk Down is GREAT for multiplayer, if you can handle the yanko-centric political context of the single player missions to practice on - its cheap and independant servers mean no charges for online play!

In this sick F*&kin' country?! You're kidding right? Most of the young men in my graduating high school class killed and mutilated cats out of boredom. Most commercial games include gore because it's what teenage males want. If the army went uber realistic with the bloodyness of actual combat, Goth-rock / punk / rap-metal whiteboys would be lined up at the recruiting office as far as the eye could see. Cruelty is the cultural currency of America and it always has been.

Mmm thats VERY interesting, it has'nt gone unnoticed, the violent nature of america and its media, films and TV, when compared to the moralistic and il-liberal attitudes towards crime, drug use, abortion etc is a very good point, and thats somthing that all facist states have had in common funnily enough, a desensitisation towards violence yet total unnaceptance of activities considered to be 'immoral'. Good examples are Nazi Germany, imperial Japan, Franco's Spain etc etc. And the starship troopers film - which although a great book was written by an out and out facist, the society portraid in it is is a version of a facist utopia.
