City of Villains

image This game rocks, I bought it yesterday... just thought i would share here since I can't review yet! Some sort of odd rank system! Seriously if you wanna play a good overall game then try it! For all of you downing NCSoft... walk a mile in my shoes (Ex UO player for about 3 years) EA Games treated me like such crap that they even banned my accounts because I registered my cousins who was wrongfully banned under my email because it was my credit card and other billing info.

But im not here to rant and ask people to BOYCOTT EA!! *Waves a sign around* I just thought I would mention CoV To you all.

Think of it this way, you can learn to fly, you can jump, the battle system is actually real time, its open to role play, its Something differant for a change from the same old medievel fantasy or Star trek/wars like Sci Fi. Good message system with Chat bubbles so you actually know who is talking! :)

Also the mission system isnt a hassle, going places doesnt take two hours like ffxi or WoW, you can pretty much make anything out of a character!

The only things i think its missing so far are UO's overwhelming arsenal of items to sell or trade it does allow for a fun time treasure hunting and selling wares. And if you cannot decorate your hideout it might be a little dissapointing. People need hangouts in games, its just natural! The problem is there arent enough developers really listening to the players needs.

Well We will see,

i found the game, just like CoH to be very repetive. go in instance, kill everything inside or protect something for a certain amount of time, go back to contact and repeat. ofcourse its a lot like this in every mmorpg, but you don't get any items at all, except for a few enchantments. the combat is pretty good in both CoH and CoV, fast action. tough i have to say the combat does looks cool and fast and all, but no real strategy is required. no tank is really needed, a healer is very nice but not a requirement. there are some exceptions ofcourse, but most missions are just rush from group to group and blast anything to pieces. i had a lot of fun for 2 months on CoH, a little less on CoV since i all did it before, but a good game overall.

I beta-tested it and found it to be pretty fun. I am going to write a small review about it for betadogs.com soon.

Im Loving it too. Been playing from late BETA and just enjoying it more all the time. I have tried a few AT's but settled on a Stalker (Ninja/Ninja) and its working really well and is a LOT of fun to play. I hit 20 last night and would have probably gone on to 21 in the same session but the servers came down image

PvP is loads of fun too. The way everyone gets leveled to 25 for bloody bay is a great idea and allows everyone to get into PvP from a very early level. Obviously the higher you are the better because you will have more uber skills to use... but even at L15 you can go into BB and get into it.

I have signed up for 3 months and I anticipate playing well beyond that. image

Its nice to be pleasantly surprised for a change

I couldn't get into it, I don't really know why.  I enjoyed CoH for a little while, and I got into CoV beta during the weekend thing.  For some reason it just felt weird.

I also beta-tested it.... found it VERY fun....image
*sigh* maybe santa will give me it.... LOL
  • I beta-tested it and bought it.. but now I discovered how boring it really is.

Until you leave mercy island, everything is cool and fun. But then, you'll start to see just HOW REPETATIVE the freaking missions really are. Fine, they wrote 2-4 lines for every mission.. but there isn't really a reason to do it.. it's just the same all the time. Either you'll go into the sewers, a hotel-like instance or something arachnos-etc. related... also there are only 3 differences in the missions..

    1. Get that item

    2. Kill everyone

    3. Rescue/bring someone outta there

While COV may be fun for someone who can only play 1-2 hours a day, it certainly is not entertaining if you want more than senseless smash-the-mob for no reason.

My main gripe with CoV is the repetitiveness of the missions.  Other than that, it's pretty fun. Graphics are on par with most games of recent generations, neither uber nor crap, without putting too much strain on your 'puter. I'm having fun with a Corrupter, Energy/Thermal Radiation, but I think I'll be switching back to the Stalker Ninja/Ninja I played during beta... I'm not too much for a support character, myself.

One of the features that really caught my attention is the option to scale instance difficulty. It automatically scales to the size of your group and levels, but you can visit an NPC, and for a small fee, make it quite a bit tougher than normal. The highest difficulty, Relentless, is...well, quite difficult. Beat my ass, actually.

Overall, fun game. Currently playing on the Victory server, if anyone else plays there, let me know.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

I'm on the fence about trying this one right now, so it's good to hear oppinions. I did, a year or so ago, try CoV but at the time I was pretty much into SWG and only SWG so I don't think I gave it a fair shot, although I had fun a the time, I didn't much like the fact that once you picked how your character looked, you were pretty much stuck for life with that "one" option, given though you have like a million options on how you can look.

    Still thinking about it though.
