  • You should remember in all this that your parents think this music is an unhealthy influence on you. Cursing at them and throwing a fit would only prove them right. Speak to them reasonably, and tell them that yes, you understand they're saying this for your own good. Attempt to demonstrate that the music is just an outlet, just something you enjoy listening to. Above all, expect them to say no to you.

You're going to have to expect that sometimes, your parents are just going to do things that piss you off, that you can't understand, that restrict you in some way. They could be completely unfair, they could be protecting and raising you. Either way, they're the boss until you're tough enough to go out on your own. No one your age actually wants to hear this, but we all went through this period. The best you can do is try to be reasonable, because your parents will be more inclined to be reasonable as well. Always try to see the situation from their side, it will at least help you to be reasonable.

Ah the cult of the self that is young people today.
Can you seriously look at yourself in the mirror and say that. Can you look yourself in the eye and say that is your genuinely honest opinion on what is the right thing to do ?
    Its actually quite simple....
You either accept that when you live off someone you respect thier wishes. Or you gather up your testes and go look after yourself. Then you wont have to listen to anyone elses totally invalid opinion about what you can or cant do with your life.
Trying to have it both ways by living of someone and insulting them at the same time, is both weak and uninteligent. Resulting in you lying to both them and yourself.
If you think for a second that insulting people will get you further in life than empathising and communicating with them, your in for a tough life.

Yeah i agree when it comes to things like this i really dont think they have a right to say about it. The best responce would be to talk it through with them and explain it all out calling them f**ks isnt going to do anything except increase their idea that the music is contaminating you.

just dont talk to your parental unit without being addressed first and dont blast too loud and your lives wont be remotely connected and you wont know what their doing and they wont know what your doing.

I'd hit my parents if they told me that. Primarily because thats what the media tells me to do.

Your parent are only concerned because of the stigma attached to metal music. Let's face it, the majority of people that listen to metal don't appreciate the technical prowess it takes to master the genre. They just use it as an excuse to go to a show and smash some skulls.

Sit down with your parents, explain to them what you love about the music. It's not so much the lyrics as it is the intensity and mindstirring nature of the music itself. They won't understand really, but you will at least put them at ease about the whole thing.

Btw, check out bands like He Is Legend ("I Am Hollywood" album) and A Dozen Furies. I think you would enjoy them. I would also suggest Killswitch Engage, but I'm sure you are already a fan.

You kids no nothing about metal.

"Hay guys, I like Spliknot and As I Lay Dying! I'm hardcore rite?"

Your parents are doing you a favor by telling you to shut that crap off.

The only thing is that you like the Misfits... so you aren't that bad, because the Misfits are goddamn cool.

But seriously, if you think Slipknot is metal then just take a hammer to your balls...NOW!

Maybe you should stop listening to it top volume. That stuff can really drive parents insane if its loud. Go to the store and buy some headphones and play it top in those. You'll destroy your hearing but whatever. Don't leave the covers laying around either. That kind of stuff would freak any parents out.

And stop listening to Fall Out Boy ::::07::

Did you ever consider thinking about your parents.

Maybe your dad had a really bad day at work and just for once wanted some quite.

You also might want to educate your parent about he music you are listening to.  If they thing it is radical satan loving music then they aren't gong to what you to listen to it.  Let them know you like the band becuase the parlay some of your own thoughts.  If they are upset about the language then maybe you should consider respecting them some.

Or since you bought the computer maybe you should just take it out of their house to your own place.

shut up lord, he is asking for advice and advices are meant to be helpful. Lots of people here say what they think according to either experience or logic. Ergo, this is not a silly post

He says i dont want that kind of music in my house.
I dont only listen to metal and other hard core stuff but i also listen to punk.
My favorite bands include misfits, cheap sex, casualties, action, anti-flag... etc etc
but i also like as i lay dying, slipknot and stuff.... but also the sissy stuff like fall out boy or blink 182 or green day.
What should i do? i wanto to be able to listen to whatever the hell i want.

Dude for the most part you have great taste in music. I'm old school punk and I didnt think you guys still listend to bands like Black Flag and the Misfits! Awesome. image Also ignore most of the idiots here that say our music is crap. They all like John Teche and Dion Warwick so that pretty much trashes their credibility for good music.

Unfortunately you need to respect your parents wishes. Man you owe them so much. They're only saying this out of concern. Do like someone else said and get headphones. But never rebel against your parents. Man you'll always lose and it creates major probs.

One more lick of advice. Dude ditch the woosy pop punk bands like Blink 182 and Green Day. And crank up some Agnostic Front, Minor Threat, or maybe even The Dead Milkmen!
