Finally---getting rid of all the class mixing mumbo-jumbo!

I liked the concept, but having this type of system was simply doomed to fail. You can't have a tank and a damage dealing healer all rolled up into one toon and expect any type of balance. I played this game since day 2...day one doesnt count since the servers sucked......and im spreading the word to all my friends that have left the game that SWG has a little fight left in it.......please SOE......dont screw this up......::::08::

Sadly, you're right.  At least partially.  There are just too many combinations to balance.  If it was something as simple as Healer, Ranged, Melee it would be easier to balance but with so many possible combinations balance was practically impossible.

But to go the opposite with a pathetic NINE?

    Snoresville!

Nine classes in which you CAN NEVER CHANGE??? AND NO ALTS??

They just reduced the continued playability down to two months tops.

Nah, seeing as it sounds like it's converting to a pure level base I'm sure it would take more than 2 months to hit level 90. image

But really, 35 was too many.  There was never any need for all that.  It was cool while it lasted but anyone who really sat down and thought about the game could see that it was too many.  Plus with prof mixing you just could not balance it at all.

Just out of curiosity..how many profs does CoH have?

Of course now you can't change professions with a character unless you delete it... so that's a load of BS.

If this game doesn't give you alts id is even more doomed than it is. The only reason games like WoW and CoH survive long-term is that you can play multiple characters and try new things. The "One per server" rule was acceptable in SWG because you could change professions at ANY TIME.

    Now that is gone.

And if they don't give alts, the players will only stick around until they complete their character... if that.

What if you picked officer and hated it? Delete all your stuff and start over.

    Merchant? Spy?

Only 9 freaking choices, and we can never play any style other than our one locked one?

    Snoresville!

If you count CoH and CoV then you have 11 base types, with about 5 or 6 main powersets and subsets, so all in all there is the ability to have... aw hell, my math sucks.

At only the main powersets, saying there's 10 to make math easy... there's 50 different powered characters at main.. then multiply that by 5 to be conservative at secondary... 250 different types of heroes/villians.

Unless I've completely missed a step in my math.

But the biggest plus is alts. If ou want to try another character, do it. You aren't locked at all. SWG will force you into ONE UNTIL YOU DELETE.

If they don't give alts, the game ends.

Do you think the class mixing was the problem or was it just the byproduct of to many skill points in the character template that allowed players to build overpowered templates?

I think you are absolutely correct.  Again to fix this wouldn't require blowing up the game though.  It could have been done by seperating skill points into combat and non-combat skills and tweeking them in such a way that forbid such perversions of classes.

Just some thoughts for you to consider.  The NGE may be fantastic but recommending it before you have even seen a screenshot seems a bit like you have some fanboi issues.

Thank you !!! Very good idea, like AD&D 2d Edition did when they revamped.
