I just spent an hour downloading the 14-day trial, and during the installation, all of the files after about half-way were corrupted... Why?
Due to recent cutbacks, and until further notice, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off.

I have exactly the same problem and I have tried downloading it several times... I'm eager to try the game but this is a big turn-off!
Happened to me too. I just pressed "skip file" a couple times and then the installation recovered and installed the rest of the game. And it did run, no probs at all.
Downloading files from a remote server can generate corruptions in the download. You are pulling data from their server to yours. It starts in their network then goes out to the mainstream internet. Then to your local network. Normally, this is seamless but you can get data corruption depending on network traffic, time of day (again traffic) and type of connection.
This is not normal;ly the fault of the provider of the content, the files are damage free once you connect and start the download. I would hazard a guess that either a router sent an incorrect packet (which will barf anything coming along after it) or there was network congestion somewhere down the line.
Irritating as it is to download something that long, I would suggest closing any open running programs, clear your temp files and then try it again. It may also be something on your PC (usually a corrupt temp file that interacts with a newer added file) that is causing the issue.
If you run into this issue, I did with the installation of the platnium edition disks. I nkow I got the Answer that I was seeking on Mythics DAOC website in their FAQ's.
That Link is www.camelotherald.com
if your new to the game you can also go there just about daily to see your character updated the realm status on any server, guild information, spell lists.........well anyway it is probably the best home page for any MMO out there.
Vack
FF XIV - the single worse game to cross my hard drive, ever.
hey.. sounds like im not alone. I downloaded.. though i didnt have corruption issues, rather when i logged in i couldnt move my avatar other than frond or backward and if i pressed 'enter' to chat or moved left or right the game cause my computer to reboot instantly.
I truly wanted to try this game since it had great reviews but this is not worth ruining my computer. Unless someone can tell me what i did wrong or by the sounds of it the download edition just doesnt work.
Oh well.. guess i have to try another game to try.
