Flyff...disappointing?

Well, I went into Flyff with extremely low expectations...and found that they weren't exceeded.

First the good.  The graphics were nice, cutesy (nothing wrong with that though) and similar to ROSE.

That's it for the good.  Why I was disappointed follows...

1. I know it's a beta, but getting disconnected from the server 15 times in 20 mins is pretty bad (and this was AFTER they supposedly fixed it up...couldn't get on at all when they were having the initial problems).  My longest stint logged on was about 7 or 8 minutes...enough time for me to find out...

2. They may have incorporated WASD style keyboard movement, but when the camera doesn't move with your character, and you therefore still have to reposition it with the mouse, it's actually WORSE than mouseclick movement.

3. First NPC you come across is a hairstyle change NPC.  What!?!?!  I just spent all of 3 seconds in the character setup screen deciding between the 5 different hairstyles why would I suddenly want to buy another one.  Next NPC I come across is a Flight NPC that offers the cheapest flying apparatus at 3000 (units of currency...whatever they were).

4. I walk out the town and there's a quest NPC, but she/he only offers quests for level 7 and above.  I figure cool, level 7 shouldn't take to0 long, so I go off to kill lvl 1 one-eyed bees.  I have NO skills (presumably cause I'm a vagrant...a vagrant with a sword funnily enough) and so I just swing said sword at the bee.  My toon swings fast...but doesn't appear to be able to do anything else...

5. So I ding level 2 after killing maybe 5 bees, so I decide to stick killing level 1 bees to see how long my next level will take.  Bees take just as long to kill, but yield 1/4 of the xp, so after killing about 15 and being 75% of the way to lvl 3 I get dropped from the server again...

6. I log back in and low and behold instead of being 75% to lvl 3 I'm back to 25% of the way.  Suffice to say...that was it for my flyff experience...

oh...and 7.  I hate hate hate player stalls...particularly when you can write 256 chars of crap in their fully displayed chatbubble-type adverts and there's hundreds of them and the first one I come across said something...well, something not quite fitting the otherwise cutesy world (ie. grossly disgusting)

Anyone else have a better experience with flyff?

Ok, for me i can play about 8 minutes of the game and my comp literally freezes...I uninstalled and reinstalled and it just freezes and it makes me freaking manually restart so I am done with the game. Ironically i got to level 3(with this restarting, playing, restarting playing method) and i DO have to agree. I hate the fact that there is no option for the camera to lock behind your character while using WASD, and it indeed does make it feel more uncomfortable. Secondly Yah, the char bubbles kinda conquered my screen and made my eyes hurt. But anywhos i still would of liked to play this game regardless...but sigh my comp just does not want to cooperate.

well i was going to play it to kill some time.

but anyway, the first day a series of hackers lvl'd to 60+, duping, and started giving away stuff..goodbye economy in first 24 hours.

the worst part is the GM of the game, his master plan for the hackers, was to make them 'invisible' on the rankings and let them go about their business as usual.

Wow, this is pretty weak. Every single korean MMO that is translated in english for NA gets just raped by hackers sooner or later, but on the first day to see ppl duping is pretty funny imho.

you guys got your info wrong....sigh. Those "hackers" were suspected to be hackers and the reason they were "cloaked" by the GM was because they were Testers. the game's budget wasn't well so the GM literally hired some people to find hacks in the game. Nothing was "handed out" to anyone for your information(dunno where you heard that part..) and secondly they got to about lvl 30 the first day. it was revealed what was really going on about the second day on their forums.

    GM's post on the issue...

PostPosted: Sat Nov 05, 2005 4:18 am Post subject: Hackers For The Lose, Testers For The Win! Reply with quote
Geez, I take a day away to do interviews and go look at new office spaces and the place goes crazy. Anyways, I'm here to clear up the "hacker" issue once and for all.

Hackers have been, and will always be, a part of any game. You can't stop them. For example, everyday, many new viruses are released over the net. It's not going to stop, and it's never going to stop.

What are most people's reaction to hackers? "Ban 'em, ban 'em!" True, banning them is one way to stop them. But what's to stop them from making another account? Am I just going to sit here and constantly play wack a mole with hackers? Banning is just a short term solution, and essentially solves nothing at all.

My job, as a Producer and GM, is to ensure the long term enjoyment of the game for all of our players. In terms of hacks and exploits, the long term solution is to find a way to close the holes.

With that said, we currently have neither the manpower nor the resources to find and close every single exploit ourselves. So, I needed to come up with a solution for this on-going, never-ending war. So, instead, I have enlisted the help of ".Sorien.", "Run It's The CIA", and "Sofiya". Not as hackers, but as testers.

Now, before you go around screaming like a chicken with its head cut off or blowing up my PM or email boxes, please read my whole post.

Companies like Blizzard enjoy the luxury of having the resources to employ an internal test team, we don't. So, instead, I've ask them three, as members of the community, to help out instead.

They will be working their magic, finding bugs and exploits. Then, they will be reporting it all back to me, to be passed on to Aeonsoft, the developer. This way, they can then be patched, and not be further exploited.

Keep in mind, we are still in a beta phase, which means we are in a testing phase, so what do we do on the server? We test.

Those three will be asked to sign NDA (non-disclosure-agreements), and they will be taken off the Rankings (As soon as possible). They are not eligible for any contests or promotions, and they are not allowed to give any in game items or hacks and techniques to anyone.

Essentially, they will be invisible. If you ignore them, they will not bother you. They are just testing. I, or the future GM manager, will be in personal contact with them at all times to make sure rules are being stuck too and users are not being taken advantage of.

Hopefully, this will help ensure the future of Flyff, and make it brighter, by ensuring that the game is better every time we discover and close an exploit or bug. This will make your game time more enjoyable and fun.

I know some people will disagree with this, but I believe this is the best route for the future. Feel free to post your opinions here, constructively, without fear of being banned, locked or deleted (If they are thoughtful and constructive! Personal attacks will still be frowned upon.)

Sounds very much like a weak excuse manufactured AFTER the fact.  Otherwise, if they were asked to test hacks from the beginning, WHY would they have appeared on the rankings at all?

    /sigh..

the thing is people believe this.

He posted this as quality control thats it. all this 'tester' thing is, is an excuse to let the GM's friends cheat and to keep him from working on finding hackers new accounts and all that...(and yes there is only 1 gm)

noone was hired. noones getting paid. the GM basicly said do what you want just please dont pk ..

I mean seriously, they could tell that the 'cheat' worked by lvl 2, why are they still running around harassing real players at lvl 80?

and there are more than 3 btw they just give the GM the names before they get high up rankings now to keep them out of rankings, id post the link to this (its from 3 seperate forums that these cheaters use) but dont think mmorpg.come wants these sites linked. check the flyff forums for them if you care that much.

Read my first post again...I expected absolutely NOTHING!  And was STILL disappointed...but then, if I knew it only had a one person development team, I wouldn't have bothered at all.

This is what is starting to worry me about all the new MMORPGs...these tiny development teams that grab a graphics engine whip up a bunch of mobs and a bunch of areas (like anyone can do in NWN or something) and then try to "sell" it to people and grab a monthly fee...

The only way we, as a community, can stop this is NEVER preorder games (unless they're from a huge company maybe), and please don't pay people monthly fees for this type of crap...not specifically refering to FLYFF here either...

Honestly...It's another lifeless grind except this time with flying magical carpets and brooms! yahoo!

I played it back in the first open beta and somehow I astonishingly managed to get to lvl 20 before I realized how completely pointless and un-fun the game is.

I played the game for about a half hour or so and i felt that its an ok game. Like the graphics and i personally didnt mind the camera. Although the problem i found is i just got dropped into the game, it had the little control intro thing but i was like what do i do? so i ran around for awile and couldnt really find what i was supposed to do other then just kill stuff. Now i didnt really look into the game much before i played it so maybe thats all it is?

  • What is this game all about. I went to the website and couldn't make much sense out of it, so I didn't download it. All I got was that you can fly somehow.

It appears it's about killing mobs till you get enough cash to buy a flying contraption, then kill more mobs whilst flying...

Really all this type of MMORPG is, is a glorified race to top level...and when people can cheat easily to get there...makes the whole sub-genre pointless.

First few hours of flyff open beta was full of problem.
First few days of WoW was full of problem.

I have found a few people that I enjoy grouping in flyff.
I still have 3 months of paid subscription for EQ2, but am sick of LFG.

Flyff is a great game for me (but the content is nowhere near EQ2 or WoW).

The first few hours of ffyff is horrible, but the game became fun afterward.

So far, my only complaint is the foul mouth kids taunting people to duel.

Tested Flyff as well, and gotta say that my first impression isn't as negative at all. I even think that it's one of the better beta-mmorpgs out there at the moment. It is very similar to Rose, the graphic and gameplay at least. I only played one hour, but still want to post my personal opinion of Flyff...

    1) I really had no prob with lag, smooth gameplay all the time. They probably had some server issues, but well, it's beta :)

    2) I actually think that the gameplay itself is great, I got used to the movement pretty fast, and also liked it. Sure, it could be better, but still by far better than of most beta mmorpgs.

    3) Well the hairstyles which are being offered by the NPC are different than those of the character selection, so it's actually an addition :)

    4) Didn't do a quest yet, so can't say anything about that.

5+6) Took me 40 mins to reach lvl 6. There are many low level mob camps next to each other, so finding the right level mobs isn't a prob. Didn't get disconnected a single time, but then again, only played till level 7.

    7) Don't like chatbubbles either... But I do like player shops :)
