hiya.

this is actually my second post..  but i'll try to make it worthwhile.. well.. i'll try to type in lower case.

i'm a canadian living in india on a students visa, and i've been waiting to play FFXI for a very looong time. I've been wanting it so much that hell, i'm even paying almost 1000 dollars a year for a broadband connection (desperate times call for desperate action)

And as of today, i just placed an order for FFXI from dvdboxoffice and they should be shipping it to me in a few days (i even dished out extra for courier service)...

but i just realized there's alot about this game i don't know about.... :(

So, before my game does eventually arrive, i'd like to know a few things...

i) how much is the monthly charge in canadian dollars?

ii.)even though i'm in india, my folks live in canada (and luckily, the billing for the credit card goes there as well. :)). so will i be able to enter their address and still be able to play the game over here?

iii.) Since i am in india... i've been hearing that FFXI will place me in a random server or something.  Will it place me on a server on which i can't play due to lag issues? or will it place me more closer to where i am in the world (korea, or japan)? Does FFXI take my location into account?  I've been playing an online game called MU online (got from here), and i've seem to got no problems playing that.  But in the case of a game like counterstrike... i can only join on servers located in singapore or korea with relative ease.

iv.) this should actually be my first question... but will i even be ABLE to play the game, since i'm in india? :)

v.) eventually i plan on going back to canada during any vacation time (and eventually back for good), but i gotta know, if i were to take my cd's and drag it back with me on a plane back to canada, could i just install it on my comp in canada and start off right where i left off back in india?

vi.) there will be times in which i won't be able to play online for a month or two (medical exams are a bitch.).. is there a way to suspend my account for a large period and reactivate it once my exams are over with?  i mean like not pay for the period that i've suspended the account? or is this just wishful thinking on my part? :)

If anyone here can answer these questions, it would be apprieciated. :)

Oh, and if by chance when i do get my copy and everything turns out ok for me here, i'll post and give you guys an idea of how my experiences were in playing it in india of places.. :)

I'm not 100% sure on my answers, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong...

    1) Dunno

    2) They dont care whether you live where the bill goes as long as they get payed.  You should probably just put the canada address as your current residence.

    3) You are put on a random server, but all the servers are in Japan anyway.  I have also heard that lag is practically non-existent anyway.

4)I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't be able to.

5)When I played EQ I took it with me to visit my parents once.  I loaded it onto my dads comp and when I logged on entered my account name and password and there was no prob.  I assume the same applies to all games...

    6) dunno

    I hope this helped

they dont go buy where the bill gets paid at they just make sure it gets paid and after it is the account is activated you can log onto the active account anywhere.

the server thing is random but you can get around it and some new servers have been created they all are not from the jap. game

thanks for the help all of you.. it was much appreciated...

actually i kinda have another question, but it has more to do with when i start off with my character.

Sony only allows one free character, after that you have to pay, right? i was thinking of what character to use.  I was going to choose the fighter, but then i read some posts on here on how there were too many fighters in the server.

My next choice is to be a white mage.

My question is, if i become a white mage, and if it doesn't work out, can i delete my character and start a new character up without paying a fee of somesort? or do i have to create a new character, bite my tongue, and pay for the extra character, while keeping a redundant character?  (if from what i've read that there's a similar job class system where i can change my character on the fly, that would be better in the end)

If anyone who's played it knows, just drop a msg here!

you can go white mage if you want. and If you want to delete and make another character without getting charged extra, DELETE first, then CREATE. Also, the only reason you should make another char if for a different race or different name because you can switch jobs and the levels you get on your white mage will still be there if you ever want to change back or subclass it.

The reason there are so many melee out there is because there are so many melee jobs, there are 5 casters if you count bard, and 9 melee. unbalanced, but what can ya do?
