STARCRAFT GHOST

In life, we all know that there are only two things we can count on -- death and taxes. At the same time with Blizzard Entertainment, there are only two things we can count on -- games that are going to dominate with action and intensity and the fact that Blizzard release dates are even tougher to gauge than the number of times I'm going to score with chicks in any given year ... actually, zero is a pretty easy number to guess.

Thankfully, I have a bright future to look forward to thanks to the aforementioned Blizzard Entertainment and their partners at Nihilistic Software (masterminds behind Vampire: The Masquerade). Their "upcoming" release StarCraft: Ghost is taking all the qualities of the real-time strategy games Starcraft/Broodwar, mixing them with the feel of a Metal Gear Solid/Tenchu, throwing in a pony-tail and a hardbody as the main character, and leaving that idea with me in my room alone for the next 10 minutes.

I'm back!  The story revolves around Nova who is the ultimate silent soldier. You all remember the Ghost from StarCraft and Broodwar. Yes the table turning character that, when you used a map-hacking program to eliminate the fog of war, could sneak through all defences and set a nuke to completely destroy your enemy from the inside. Ahh, what glory one feels when he can cheat better than a person half-way across the world. What dignity and respect one gains when he doesn't have to have enough skill to actually win a battle, he can simply rely on cheating his way through each and every stage. Laughing and at his foe on the other end of the Battle.net who curses and wonders how he (or she) was beaten so swiftly and handily. Anyway, enough about my devious ways.  Her mission, and yours, is basically to kill everything in sight freeing the worlds from bugs and aliens.

Ghost proves to be an entirely new perspective towards the StarCraft series. Instead of looking down at a map and pretending you're some dope with a god-complex who points and clicks sending armies to fight -- this is an individual adventure. You objective is to master the art of espionage. You're not any ordinary grunt anymore; you're a conditioned soldier that has gone through years of techno-psychological instruction and mastery of tactical combat. The story sends you on a series of missions that can range anywhere from close range fighting to the skilful aim of a sniper rifle while suspended upside-down. If that doesn't moisten your pallet there is always the *ho-hum* all encompassing slaughter-fest of planetary battles.  Which, besides software piracy and sinful downloads is as good as it gets.

The game follows a familiar pattern from the days of Broodwar. You start out fighting the fierce but brainless Zerg, work your way through the Terran race, then end up squaring off against a very worthy foe in the Protoss.  Nova can use Combat Pistols and Gauss Rifles.  She can use Lockdown; call in Siege Tanks, BattleCruisers and everyone's favourite skin melter -- the nuclear strike.  Hmm, flipper-baby Protoss... that'd be cool.  You'll go on a gun-barrel-first tour of the innerworkings in Hydralisks, Dragoons and Mariens.  Plus you can pilot the familiar Starcraft vehicles after commandeering them.

You veterans of StarCraft and Broodwar will cheer when you get to witness these in depth boards, especially when you get a chance to roam around Mar Sara, spelunk in the mines of Char or sunbathe in the Protoss homeland of Aiur. Wherever you can get a solid foot, you can travel. If you see a spot in the terrain that looks like a nice perch to aim your rifle and perform brain-ectomies on anyone around, chances are you're gonna hide there and spill some unsuspecting fool's cerebellum all over the pavement. If you see a ladder laying horizontally you can hang by your legs and smite your foes while the blood rushes to your head. If you find that too tough, play this game while sitting upside down in your chair!  Sounds like distorted logic maybe, but if you do it right you can get a good buzz from being upside down too long.  And! If you can trick your friends into doing that, you can steal their money after they pass out.

I haven't really hit on the graphics too much yet.  Mainly because typing words over four syllables and stringing more than once sentence together really tires me out.  But c'mon, how do you describe such in-depth levels that make Halo's boards look like chimp work.   Lavish scenery creates atmospheres that will really get you lost in these worlds.  Waterfalls, reflecting pools and huge landscapes from mountain ranges to misty forests will baffle your puny minds.

Basically you need to check out some screenshots to understand where I'm coming from.  Two reasons really, it's pretty dumb not to, and the game could be eons away from release.   One can only imagine what new dangers lurk around the corner.  So bring your stealth-suit, your dexterity, your nerves of steel and your thirst for creating havoc -- Starcraft: Ghost looks to keep a trend going for Blizzard and Nihilistic.  Oh and bring some diapers, I forgot to mention ... *insert girly shriek here* -- Ultralisks.

It's not developed by Nihilistic anymore. That was years ago. Then Swinging Ape studios began to work on it. Soon Blizzard bought Swinging Ape studios and made them part of the Blizzard console team. So now it's only developed by Blizzard.

Alot of people await Sc: Ghost, but what was the point of this post? It's in the wrong forum too.

    *sighs*

Quit cutting and pasting stuff you find on the net here. You're cluttering the forum with garbage. I'm assuming this is so you can go rate a game but trust me it's best to just post normally. Your rating will go up on it's own.
