Hello all.
I quit DAoC about two years ago, after the release of ToA. Since then I have played WoW, CoH, and CoV. I was recently checking out some of the new info on DAoC (the Heretic class looks nice) and I am interested in coming back but I would first like to hear from those still playing to see if it is worth it.
Just FYI, I was one of the many that left after the ToA expansion.
Thanks in advance.

If the reason you left was because of ToA then you have a few options. Many things about ToA have changed and I think more are comming soon.
If you want to avoid it entirely there are 3 servers now without ToA. 2 of the 3 have the highest populations on the game and average around 2500 or so during US prime-time hours.
Leveling is much quicker. Some people can do it in 1/10th of the the time it did from when the game first came out, but average is about 1/5 of the time. So even if you play less than 20 hours a week you should have a level 50 in 1-2 months.
Catacombs was a great expansion for classes, zones, and items.
DR adds some nice storyline quests, although it is rather short.
RvR has changed a lot. A new frontier is out there. You can conquer towers down or level them to the ground. You can knock holes in the walls of keeps now.
So you will have plenty of people to group with and kill on the Classic Servers. Also there is no free /level 20 on the classic servers.
If you liked DAOC prior to ToA you will most likely like the Classic Servers.
Thanks for the info. I remember hearing about the release of classic servers but there are a few questions I have about them. Being that they are classic, do they offer any of the features/upgrades available through any of the expansions? For example, could someone play a Reaver or Vampiir on a classic server? Can someone access the zones available from any expansion released after ToA?
I hope these questions don't sound stupid, I just want to get an idea of what these servers entail. I tried looking them up online, but couldn't find the answers to these questions.
Races/Classes: Yes I've killed bunches of Vampir's and have seen Savages and the other races/classes as well.
The rest I'm not sure on though I do see quest givers for catecombs and such so I am thinking that yes all the expansions *except* TOA are available on the classic servers.... but am not sure. I only just came back so I haven't experimented much yet.
As to whether it's worth coming back?
I did

You get all of the races/classes/graphics upgrades that all of the other servers do. You cannot access ToA areas.
Basically it is DAOC with everything all of the others servers have minus ToA land/ML/Artifacts.
Also it has a buff range restriction to help cut down on buffbots. On the ARS ("classic" :P) servers you have to be grouped with the buffer and within a certain range. This helps prevent people running a second account, buffing up their character and leaving the buffer sitting safely at the entrance to the zone.

"There were much of the beautiful, much of the wanton, much of the bizarre, something of the terrible, and not a little of that which might have excited disgust."
Well, there is still the problem of people auto-sticking their own personal bot on a 2nd account to their main and leveling both at the same time. People are going to greater lengths to use a buff bot on the classic servers, I think it's that 2nd account they all bought for their buff bots on other servers, don't want it to go to waste I guess.
But fear not, and time I group with some one and they want their buff bot grouped I tell them it ain't happening. If you want to play a druid/healer/cleric, then play one and log off our other toon! I'm not gonna help you level 2 characters while you can only play one most of the time.

Yup, I've found that most groups will punt anyone who's a "bot" from the group on the Classic servers. I know I will punt a 'bot' and let a player in in a heartbeat if I'm a group leader.
Personally I don't mind bots in a group since they're sometimes fairly helpful, as long as they're not keeping a PLAYER from being in the group

yeah dude, give daoc a try the classic servers r the best thing to happen.
How much would purchasing all the xpacs except ToA run me? moved three times since i played being in the air force and all no clue where that software went lol the classic servers sound really nice though
I dont mean to sound stupid but what is ToA and why does everyone hate it?
Cheers

ToA = trials of Atlantis. It is an expansion pack. Too long to get into why "everyone" hates it. Lets just say that it benefited 'powergamers' because they could play 10 hours a day and hurt those that did not have the time. Or that is the impression at least.
Instead of buying all of the xpacks it would be cheaper to buy the new Epic edition. I think you can download the two expansions you are missing for $30 from DAOC. But it is the same cost for the epic edition at the store. So that is what I think is the best option.
Guild Wars - Rorick Aurlith E/Mo pumped up with the best armor and weapon, has all his skills, and runes. PvP King!
Dark Age of Camelot - Leaton 50 Vampiir - Lamorak - Guild: Magic and Mayhem!

Just buy the new Epic box that's out. It has ALL the expansions (including TOA) for only $39.00 US.
Well worth it, imo.
Having TOA installed won't matter if you play on a classic server. But it will give you the option of playing with TOA on a normal server with another toon if the urge strikes you.
