looking for a MMO

Some of my friends an i have been playing WoW a lot and the first few months were great but after getting some epics and running MC a bit it has gotten boring. I play on a PvP server but PvP is random and stupid. I am looking for a new mmo where it isnt as easy to get to the max level and that has a good community. PvP would be good also so long as its better than that of WoW maybe something with large scale raiding.I am thinking of something new or something coming out within the year, if anyone plays an MMO now that they think is great feel free to post and help me out.

    Guild Wars is nice if you like short PvE and then PvP.
    I play that on and off (a few times a month).

    Most other games out right now take like a year or more to get to max level.

    O and dont try games that people recommend like Eve Online or RoSE Online, they are not worth the time.

    I know its tough, but just wait for a next gen MMORPG to come out and rock your world...

    Lineage 2, its pretty hard to get to max lvl...
    And the PvP is fun

    About GW i actually did play that and i loved it for a bit.. Didnt last as long as WoW although the PvP was better. I heard lineage and ffxi were full of farmers so i am not so sure about those.

    try dark age of camelot, with catacombs dungeon task, I got 50 in a little more than 3days play time. With the cats engine, darkness rising expension and the overhaul of the 3 major cities, the graphic in this game is by far in the top 5 ever.

    great pvp , fast or slow pve(to your liking) great comm, and lots and lots of class/race to choose from.

    EDIT: I'm sorry that this post is sooo very freaking long. Because of the stigma that the game has currently on the forums, I began writing this knowing that I would have to defend writing every word here before hand, and I still tried to answer all of the OP's comments. If someone escalates this post into another flamewar, I encourage other posters to not respond and keep the thread on topic.

    ~~~~~
    First off, recent acts of members on these forums regarding this particular game have made me have to start this post on the defensive. The OP stated the following:
    -That his group was bored of end game raiding that WoW offers.
    -That he is interested in a game that offers meaningful PvP
    -That he is looking for a game where everyone doesn't reach max in a short period of time.
    -That he is wanting a game with plenty of mature and helpful community members.
    -That he would like input from anyone playing any MMO that they think would suit his needs.
    Now that I have proven that I am not a forum troll, I will submit the game that has been such a disputed topic on the MMORPG forums lately for the OP's review: EVE Online.
    If you're interest lies more towards the PvP side, you might want to try the free 14 trial. A quick check on Google or on the EVE forum section here will tell you where you can get a key.
    Regarding your concerns:
    EVE Online is very player-centric. Everything you can do in the game exists for some form of PvP - whether its waging war, building allies, economic entrepreneuring, etc.
    This does mean that PvE is on the weaker side, but it can still be fun to do.
    <story>
    I am currently a member of an alliance of 900 players (in eve, that's a rather moderate size). We lay claim to a stretch of space in the boarder regions. As of this week, our allies and us have staged a full siege of an enemy alliance. This alliance is currently the largest in the game's history at 2600 members, and has survived several massive civil wars. We have taken two of their stations and are fighting for every system we cross. Rumors have it that they will soon separate due to this military pressure, but the campaign is expected to continue for many more weeks.
    </story>
    That is just to show that PvP in Eve can be rather epic. There are also the various pirating / anti-pirate groups that patrol the lower security regions of the galaxy that you can take part in.
    Player progression in Eve is skill based, and skill points are gained a constant rate determined by your attributes, whether you are offline or on. This fact has lead to many misconceptions, and reasonable concerns, about gameplay.
    There are several hundred skills available for players to buy, however, if you look at skill prerequisites, the skill tree is only 5 skills deep at the most. This means that the skill tree is also very broad, ranging from group leadership skills to weapons usage to manufacturing to empire building,.. the areas go on.
    It would take a much longer post to explain exactly how the skill system works, and if you try the game you will figure it out soon enough. I will just say this:
    Every area with these skills has a stopping point. It is at this point that new players and vets will meet no matter what. After this, a player moves on to another area. Since its impossible to use more than a few skill areas at any given time, a new player specializing in what he thinks he needs will be able to compete with (and be respected by) veteran players rather quickly. Numbers are not everything in this game, and doing the unexpected will give you a better advantage than X more skill points in Y area.
    In regards to maxing out, I believe that the total skill training time for everything has been calculated to be around three years, and at the rate new skills are released, it is impossible to ever catch up to that number. Don't let that discourage you though, as at the higher tiers of the skill tree, skill points effectively become more difficult to get, so that accounts for the long time. Look into it and you will learn more.
    I hope that this has been informative to you, and not just another "try this because I play it" kind of post. If you start playing the game you may also find that most of the community is just as courteous and helpful as I have tried to be.
    If you and your group eventually try out Eve, feel free to PM me on these forums and I'll see about getting you ingame contacts.
    I think the annoyance with EVE comes from the fact that it is a very Love-Hate game.
    Then it is recommended in every thread almost immediately.
    I, personally, tried EVE on a similar recommendation and actually laughed at what they considered a game.
    I am sorry to sound flame-like, but being used to a game where action is common makes this game look more like a mining simulator than an mmorpg.
    The graphics are BEAUTIFUL, the realism is AMAZING, but the gameplay is completely outrageous. I mean you level up skills WHILE AFK in the hanger, and they can take up to 2 days to level up.
    So for my trial, I found myself selecting a skill to train, selecting a place to mine, and minimizing the game to search for something else lol. The music was also very engrossing.
    This works for some people though, they explore space, they mine and marvel at this realistic space-life simulator, but if you go into it expecting action and combat and zap and pews, you will be really dissappointed.
    So now I will recommend that you stay away from this trial unless you are either very bored, or feeling very open minded.
    Back on topic.
    Try out Starwars Galaxies, Lineage 2, City of Villians, or any game out there really.
    Its tough to make a recommendation like this, though it would help if you told us how much you were willing to spend and how well you computer ran WoW ^_^
    Eh, saying all you did was mine in EVE is like saying all you did was mine in WoW. Before you go all fanatic hatred declaring it most boring MMO ever you should really try something other than the most boring part of the game ::::28::.
    With a free 10 day trial (or 10 level, whichever comes first), it can't hurt to give SWG a try :)
    You can download the trial here, http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/, but keep in mind the servers are still having the publish applies and won't be up for probably another 12 hours all going well :)
    this is not a flame, you gave your side with all the good stuff, now i'm going to give my side with the bad stuff.
    when i played i wanted to actually fight against some pirates. so i ask where can i fidn the pirates to fight (npc pirates). people told me asteroid belts. so i go to an asteroid belt. what do i find there? just asteroids. go to another asteroid belt, same thing.
    if you want to have space battles, this game is not for you. even  when i did run across some pirates there's like 2-4 pirates in a system. you know what the battle consist of? set your ship to orbit their ship at a distance, lock on, click the 1 button to start your gun autoattack, click the 1 button to turn on your shields, wait for the enemy to blow up.
    maybe if i played longer i would have found the better parts, but it was just too boring to continue.
    if you could actually control your ship and fight like in game like a flight/space sim like wing commander, then the game might actually have something going for it.
    the other thing is travel, you get a mission then have to autotravel to a system like 10 jumps away. its takes forever to get there, and you never run into any enemies to fight on the way.
    so now you 2 sides of the spectrum for eve.
    but by all means, try it and decide for yourself, it has a free trial. if you like it great, if not, at least you tried it.
    Looks to be a lot of mixed reactions on EVE but since the trial is free i will try it. I am also going to try the DAOC trial. TY guys for all the help i guess the best thing ican do now is just see for myself.
    As for how well my computer ran WoW i would say it was good. 50-60FPS most of the time a little lag due to internet but i have learned to deal with that. I dont however want to spend a bunch of money on different games or pay more than 1 monthly fee.
