"Girls play WOW" - an alternative view

Ever saw those numerous photos taken at gaming conventions, like E3? Hot chicks all over the place!

Is this issue even an issue? Why would normal, socially adept people even care whether "GIRLS" play this game, or any other games for that matter, or not? Does this fact make the game more interesting somehow, or what? ::::12::

These girls playing WoW (EQ2/EVE/etc) articles is nothing but a marketing scheme, aimed at providing those poor antisocials sods among who had any doubts about whether to keep existing in their imaginary worlds or to go out and "get a life" with an excuse to not drop a game but keep playing! Yeah, why look for girls on a side if there's plenty of them in the game!

Oh, and there's also a message for all the teens with raging hormones who currently play games like BF2 and other action games, to switch to WoW and increase their chances of getting laid! Did you hear? There's hundreds of hot gurlz playing WoW!!1 and there's a whole website dedicated to that!!!1111111 ::::04::

In this country and especially in this industry, sex sells! Remember this people and stop acting like fools.

E3 picutres are filled with female models and an occasional female gamer, I'm sure most of the models don't play the games they represent, but there are more women gamers today than there have ever been.

Its not a marketing scheme, its reality, females play games.  Sure the tradeshows employ hot models, this is true in the game industry, car industry, and just about any other industry that involves males.  But you are silly to think that every female you see at a trade show is just there as some marketing ploy.

Do a google for "female gamer" and you'll find thousands of links about women playing games.  Personally I know 2 women who play games, there are 3 others in my WoW guild who play on their own, and another 3-4 that play because their boyfriends/husbands play.  Tell me how these 6 women are related to some marketing scheme??

I agree.  Why on earth should it matter that hot chicks do something?  Hot chicks cheerlead, does that mean I should become a cheerleader(no offense to the few male cheerleaders out there)?  Like you said, they're merely using the age old technique that sex sells(look at Remote controll cars and street racing magazines, what on earth does a hot, half naked chick have to do with those things?  Companies really shouldn't have to worry stuabout doing nts like this.  If I want to enjoy a game, tell me what's great about it, not that hot chicks are playing(besides, what are the odds you're ever going to see these people in real life, let alone hook up with them) Like what was said before, compainies using,"yeah, tons of hot chicks play our game", are only out to snatch a certain audience.  Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are some girls that play MMO's(I know a few, and they do look pretty good), but if you play a game for the sole reason is because the company says hot chicks play, then I suggest you find a game you'd accually enjoy, the population of females should be the same, with similar results in looks, or just quit games all together and find a real girlfriend, much better than the virtual one you found on that game that may not even be female...

all those super hot women at conventions are paid models to be there for eye candy.

what is the big deal with women who play games anyway? its almost 2006, not 1706. this is the USA, not Iraq.

While there was a few years ago an infamous EQ ad that basically equated MMOs with dating services, I don't think that the "Girls play MMOs" media attention is aimed at what you think. Yes it is a marketing scheme, but it seems to me that it's a marketing scheme to try to get other women to play. If they show that MMOs aren't played just by teenage boys then they may be able to convince more women to play (and in theory/idealy/in a pipe dream the customer base could be doubled).

Why didnt you post on the other topic? Should MMORPG cap posts at 25 replies because you think what you have to say is more important than everyone elses?
