    to deathwolf:

is there a game you DO like?

every post you made seems to be bashing every game someone brings up.

    to the op:

will this be your 1st mmorpg? what do you want out of the game?  easy leveling? being able to solo a lot? pvp? etc? would help if you could give us some idea what you are looking for.

Well, if you mean by WoW or FF....which is better, WoW or FFXI, then it's a matter of opinion.
I played both and currently play WoW.  They are both good games and it depends what you're looking for.

I found that I got bored with FFXI because it seemed like the same old grind.  Want to level?  Find a group and if you're not a whitemage then hope you can find one.  Luckily I was one but still had trouble finding decent groups.  Solo?  No way, just wasn't possible during most of leveling.  The crafting system left some to be desired, but I'm sure some folks like it.  What was nice was housing.  I also liked being able to plant seeds in my house, feed them crystals, and see what grew.  The economy at launch was a bit screwy because FFXI was out in Japan a year before it hit the states.  It's probably even more inflated now.You also are limited to 1 character and each additional one is $1 more each month.

WoW is much easier to level in and you don't really need a group.  There seems to be a never-ending supply of quests.  Crafting isn't very in depth but then again, it's World of WARcraft...I feel it's lacking still.  And no player housing.  There are also server issues if you don't start on a new server, and even then give it a couple months and it will fill up and you'll have to wait in queue to play.  You do however get pretty much unlimited characters, to a point of course.

That all said, it's preference.  I still play and enjoy WoW.  I will probably keep playing, which makes WoW the only MMORPG I've liked enough to stick with (out of FFXI, SWG, EQ/EQ2, GW).

Hope that answers your question ::::35::

i voted wow because out of the 2 wow is better. but from personal experience im very tired of wow as well as it is to easy. Also someone said FF11 is all about grinding, wow is the same thing only you do it with different characters over and over and over why because you hit 60 get all your gear and have nothing to do but make another char get 60 get all your gear etc... i think it takes me about 9 days played now to get level 60 ><

The thing is, WoW was generaly designed not for people who reach 60 in 2 weeks. I play WoW on and off since beta, currently i have 4 active chars and my highest is 45. Since the beginning of MMO games, most, if not all, MMOs were hardcore oriented, where leveling is painfull, tedious, and boring. WoW is the first (IMHO) to be casual player oriented. That is why WoW is so popular, becuase most players are casual, not hardcore.

I'll have to disagree with the leveling in WoW being painless.  I had a hard time getting to level 13.  (not because of difficulty, but because of sheer boredom)  No one wanted to group becase the xp wasn't as good, and fighting mobs and doing quests kept my eyes from shutting for about an hour and a half.  It ws difficult to play the game for me in long stints just because of the repetitiveness of it. (But this is just my opinion)  I haven't played FFXI, but if they ever have a demo I'll gladly play it.  I don't intend on paying for more than one MMO, and that one is already chosen.  image

There's actually an xp bonus in groups, and you can gain xp at a faster rate doing quests in groups. Those facts aren't noticed too often, and thankfully it keeps the kids from getting past level 20 mostly.

Jeebus Checklist500, you're complaining about boredom and repitition, yet you're playing Eve? ::::12::

OP, grab a trial and give WoW a try. It's a 10 day pass, so you should have enough time to decide which game you'll find fun.

i believe wow is so popular because there is no real competition basically in 6 months when all the new mmos start coming out i believe we will see a huge decline in wow numbers as poeple that are now addicted to mmo's (poeple that didnt try them before) start trying new games. Wow is an easy game and for the average person a level 60 doesnt take 2 weeks but on the other hand one of the devolperers posted that over 25% of the player population has at least 1 level 60 char. Having a game with a population % thats already max level leaves a lot to be desired in terms of difficulity
