I can well imagine this type of game will not be for everyone. You sort of need to have a very laid back and casual approach to your gaming time, while liking to have a very, very thorough gaming experience.
And the text side of it, it doesn't really take long until you stop seeing text and start visualising what's going on. That is of course if you have that sort of imagination. One of my good friends tried MUDs several times but could not get into it as she can't really visualise too well.

It's kind of like reading an ever changing evolving book; you know the reaaally good books that you can't put down, and you find yourself completely submerged in the novel, smell it, sense it, see it etc. It's very much the same thing as that so far for me, just 100x more intensive.

In a way, the enjoyment is really hard to explain. I've never enjoyed braiding grass for two hours before, but sitting with some elders, getting lessons on how to use longbows for an hour, while braiding grass, and then going out and hunting with a bow, and all the intricacies that go with doing that.. it's just so damn fun!

I've never played MUDs before, or PnP, or any of that sort of stuff, and am kind of feeling I've really missed out.
I will say that I am sure DR is definitely not for everyone, but if you love books, have a good imagination, love the indepth process of doing things (ie hide, position yourself, stalk your prey, load and arrow into your bow, advance, take aim from your hiding place, wait on your prey, attack!) etc, whilst having it working purely off your imagination and not how Company X tells you it looks, I really urge you to have a look at DR.

    I, personally, am loving it!

Needless to say, if even a quarter of the intricacy of doing things in DR is put into HJ, it's going to completely and utter rock the MMO world!

I hope they put as much detail into HJ as they do with DR. I have faith in Simu (although I know people who don't. >.>  ...) and I BET this game is going to blow away every single person who plays.

And I'm glad you are enjoying DR. It's my all time favorite game. EVER. Well.. Until HJ comes out. Then we'll see.

Dragonrealms was really the first online game I played and still holds a place in my heart. I moved onto Everquest once DR went to the web and paytoplay. I always hoped simu would take it to the next level and build a graphical mmo. I wish it were possible to have the level of depth and amazingness DR had to it in a graphical mmo game, but I don't think that level will ever really be reached. But I am hoping at the very least that hero's journey steps away from the run of the mill mmo template and offers something unique and interesting like their MUDs were.
