i got admitted to the sneak peak about a week ago with high hopes as to how the game would play and from what i read i thought it would be really innovative, however, most people will be shocked to realize that this game has been released under another name in the US over 18 months ago, called Lineage 2.
I say this because, for the most part, it plays exactly like it. same basic scheme, same click to move, virutally the same over all controls, nearly an identical looks, npc (the 4 or 5 there are, even in the major cities) are exactly as they are in lineage. Now, all of these things by themselves isnt terribly disappointing, but the leveling is. It is nearly exactly how it is in L2. you get a weapon, you go smash a whole bunch of one thing until you level, then move on. camp after camp, more of the same. now, yes, i will admit that the RvRvR is pretty neat, but its less neat than DAoC's RvRvR which was much more complex, much more strategic and much more developed, PvP in general is less innovative than WoW since honor seems to be a useless statistic as of now, and the quest system could be the worst ive ever seen. All it is is a simple kill task given by an npc into your brain (like i said, the only npcs that really exist are the vendor ones, so maybe 5 in a city) who tells you to kill X amount of X, only, in reality, you are already going to kill X amount of X because that specific camp is the only means to level. the game is very linear on camps.
as far as i could tell the guild system exists for little more than a chat channel as there are no castles to take (DAoC, L2) and there are no high level instances to run (WoW, FFXI). PvP for anything other than mine control is pointless since the honor ranking has no value, ie. it yields no rewards, and thus renders PvP as nothing but a grief fest.
so really, this has been my opinion of the game, if you like it thats great, and feel free to post here so people can get a more balanced opinion. personally, i thought it looked like L2, played like L2, without a lot of the elements than made L2 good (there were a lot of things that made L2 bad however). and the RvRvR that they are advertising is far more dumbed down and extremely less innovative than the RvRvR that DAoC produced and refined over the last couple of years (and before you gripe about the fact that RF hasnt been out for a couple years, it has been out in korea for nearly 2 i believe).
So really, what it is, is a mishmash of features you can find in other games that doesnt improve on anything...
