We had some good times back in the day. I left you because I was tired of the same old thing - grinding for levels. I had to go out and meet new MMORPGS. So here I am after I got bored of all the other "newer and better" let me down. I came back to you, but you just don't have the magic anymore.
I don't mean to be shallow, but your clunky character controls and camera movement, not so great graphics, unchanged and somewhat awkward interface couldn't draw me back in. hearing your sweet, enchanting music again was nice though. you released a music cd awhile back didn't you? i might have to look that up.
i'm still mmorpg-less right now, but things are looking good for the future. that little minx Age of Conan has really caught my eye. if Age of Conan's promises come true, i think thats where i'll be for a long time.
so, while this little affair didn't turn out as i had hoped, i'll still cherish the memories of times long past.

i played all the new mmo's cant say i was impressed at all, especially the over hyped wow.. i mean.. apart from a fairly good quest and in game mail system.. what exactly is wow about it? the pve is a means to a end.. and the end game pvp? erm... what? where? blink and you WILL miss it.
some of us prefer old clunky daoc, with its mass of content and loyal player base to the new mordern minimalistic crap thats out there at the moment. eve i felt had insulted my wallet with its sheer lack of content. wow offended my deffinition of fun. anyway, each to their own i say, hope u have fun finding a new game! but u know daoc will still be here, may be clunky byt its staying power is great :P
a) Character controls can be customized freely (although of course the general control mechanics remain the same)
b) Did you try the new catacombs engine with the latest graphical upgrades fro darkness rising and the downloadable texture-upgrades for buildings? Looks damn good, if you ask me. You have to consider that DAoC is a PvP game - the engine therefore can not be as polished as in heavily instanced PvE games (like EQ2, for example). You need to be able to play with a moderate frame rate even if 100 players are engaged in sieges and large scale battles.
c) the interface is xml-based and can be edited - and there are dozens if not hundreds player-made interface mods with really great features (http://www.daocmods.com)
i played daoc shortly after it came out and played it for about 1.5 years. thats the longest i've ever played any mmorpg. it was good when i played it, but mnow i'm used to smooth character controls, more intuitive and easier to use interfaces, etc.
i didn't know you could get ui mods now, they didn't have that when i palyed. i did the 14 day free trial. it has the catacombs engine. there's no way i was paying to reactivate my account and all the other expansions just to test the game. if they really want people to play their game, they should make the demo with all the bells and whistles of the full game.
would it change my mind? eh, probably not.
