Bantha grinding is a substitute for real life, at least it now feels like a Star Wars Game.

I do understand that. But I also understand why they are reacting the way they are, even if they don't.

It was the same with the first CU. There were many legitimate arguments concerning details, but in the end it all came down to the fact that they never finish what they start and this subconscious truth is what leads them to rebel openly.

Calls to "bring back the old game!" are not really the issue here. There are things in the old that could have been better utilized in the new, but it all boils down to the fact that they gave themselves very little time to implement it so they dumbed it down WAY too much in order to compensate for time restrictions.

In the future they may bring back some of the complexity, but for now they are required to commit to the NGE in its current form and fix it. That really is the unfortunate part of all this.

I don't reject the change as much as how easy it was for them to just toss away all that made this unique, without saying 'may I' or bothering to tell anybody or anything.

I just started reading Heretics of Dune. It's been 25 years since I read the Dune books, and I never read Heretics or Chapterhouse, so I started over from the beginning to purge my mind of what the movies did to the idea.

That aside, there is a prelude to the book from Frank Herbert, which finishes with the following comment...

"Looking back on it, I realize I did the right thing instinctively. You don't write for success. That takes part of your attention away from the writing. If you're really doing it, that's all you're doing: writing.

There's an unwritten compact between you and the reader. If someone enters a bookstore and sets down hard earned money (energy) for your book, you owe that person some entertainment and as much more as you can give.

That was really my intention all along." - Frank Herbert

THAT is what made Dune great.

THAT is what makes anything great, the proper attitude toward the job. When a person or group of people fail to meet up to that standard, then the failure lies squarely with lack of character more than anything else.

To-date, the SWG developers have shown little character. They talk much of their success, but I find it hard to digest when they haven't actually finished anything yet. They have not yet accomplished anything except to sell unfinished product to the public, and refuse to accept that unwritten compact between they and the community.

Maybe someday they will come to realize this, but I believe that it is already too late. There is always a point where the customers just will not be peed on anymore.

Many people say the same thing about Windows and Microsoft, yet neither is dieing imageYou've noticed a small increase...very small. People are requesting server merges so that they can rebuild their decimated guilds. Also, the reason you are seeing some servers go to medium is because of the free trial offer. After that wears off...SWG will be pretty much dead. I have seen whole guilds of people now up and quit in the last couple of weeks. One whole player town literally vanished on Tatooine/Tarquinas the whole town made up of about 60+ buildings. The guild that ran it deleted everything and quit on masse out of protest because of the NGE.

Obraik has noticed an increase of people online. While doing a bit of maintainace today I went up to Mustafar, I was the only player up there.

Switched to one of the heavier servers, brought my toon down from Naboo (Theed, /who had 12 players) to Eisley. Sure, there were a fair number of CL1-10 running around. Still didn't get 32 on /who tho.

While I was packing stuff away at the house I saw one of, to me, the 'iconic' jedi from away back when I first started ingame. The guy was just cool, really. None of that swagger and guff that seems to affect so many of them. Had a chat and he too was in the process of stcking stuff on the bazaar and getting ready to jack it in.

I have ~250 jedi and (most of) their alts listed im my friends list. Other than NGE day 1 I haven't seen more than ten logged in at one time anymore. Of the rangers (cross server list) I had listed the majority of them are just gone. They haven't stayed after 'converting' to spy.

So, all in all, I'd say I'm seeing a reduction in the people online and those I do see are, by and large, packing up or selling off.

In the most part it's not the changes per say that's p'd them off, it's the way they feel they were treated by Sony. All of them agree there are good parts to the NGE, there are some massive faults some of which might get fixed (it IS Sony, remember, there are day 1 bugs still ingame that might get fixed too... someday...)

The game is changing. The people ingame are changing. Those who are going, for whatever reason, understandably are displeased. Let's face it, they invested a lot of time and emotional nergy in making characters which they felt comfortable with, and now they are effectively told that they aren't the sort of people Smeddums wants to play with...

Yeah, I can see why they are hacked off.

You know they will be fixed do ya? What in the past 2 and a half years of experience with SOE developing SWG has given you ANY indication that they will actually FIX anything? Seriously Darkstar.... there are issues in this game still present from BETA - these issues were reported over and over to SOE - and every time SOE insisted "that the fix for that issue will come very soon".... I am just wondering now how long their version of "very soon" actually is. Because to most of us - very soon means you know.... within say the next 5 or 6 hotfixes - not the next 5 or 6 years.

Also, you are assuming that every player that quit within the first 24 hours of the NGE being pushed to the live servers had only given this version of the game 24 hours of testing time. When in reality - for two weeks prior to NGE being pushed to live - these very dedicated players were spending all of their time on TC trying to learn the new system and give it a fair chance. I think that 2 weeks is ample time to figure out if you like something or not - especially when you realize that the version on the TC was pushed to the Live servers and additional bugs were added... fun stuff.

Just because you love this new game doesn't mean that everyone will - of course - that is the way everything works - but to make assumptions about how much time people actually gave this NGE to win them over simply because they quit playing the day after it went live, well - that is taking a few too many liberties.

I have to give a big QFE to that post. They haven't fixed 2 year old bugs, what makes you think you'll be singing and holding hands in a few weeks of their "fixes".

They're telling you what you WANT to hear to keep you subscribed.

I have been a SWG player since beta, pre-cu was a little hard to figure out for a bunch of people but it worked.  The CU was something you could tolerate, it did add some nice aspects to the game though.  Now this NGE is nothing like what I purchased and loved to play.  SOE saying the combat was slow in pre-cu and CU is a farce.  I remember the base fights on the Flurry server outside of Mos Syn, and if anybody played on the server would remember that those fights were not slow paced at all.

To the people supporting NGE, best of luck to you.  I just wish they would have made the NGE SWG2 and left the game lots of us vets loved to play.  Another thing about the NGE, it is not even geared for a person who has disabilities.  I know of at least 30 people that were friends that had to quit the game due to the new combat system, since it is so anti-disability inclined.

image No matter how you slice it the game is broken and i am a vet player who will see it to the end i am a elder jedi from bria and my server is all most empty. do you think i dont love swg, i do and i am not leaven. But the truth be told the game has to many bugs to list them all most of the vet player are leaven for other games like D&L and guild wars. The best thing they can do now is shut down the game and start a new one.And dont tell me that SOE and LA dont have the money for that!!!They got my money for over a year now.So look for me in Theed(bria server)naked, overt, and sabor in hand waiting for the Empire to fall.

For someone starting the game new it is actually a good system.

However you cannot change the game so radically after over 2 years and expect people to be happy.

I tried it a bit and think if they were to include jedis this was the way to go at the START of the game not now.

Though,i would rather have SWG as it was when we had no jedis to begin with.

I actually canceled my account today. I played the game from 2 weeks after it came out until now. I actually gave the new NGE in test center a try and when it hit live until today, but I'm not that great at FPS games, so it sucks for me.

I could deal with game not being too close to the time line, all the jedi running around (never had one, never wanted one), I had gotten use to all the bugs, but when they added NGE it added 10x the bugs, and took player bounties away...... and the FPS thing too, that was it for me. I couldn't really say the servers where dead, there were always people in MO, THEED, and the usaual spots, but no one I knew.

Oh, and SOE sux. make me buy trials of OBI, and then come out with NGE a month later. Say I can get my money back, but tell me there is something wrong with my account so they won't give it back until it's fixed. My account was good enough to take my money for over 2 years.

Any good suggestions on a new game. Tried WOW, and hated that even more than SWG.
