Well I was on mmorpg.com and saw that DnL has a release date there of dec 03, could this be?I dont see this on the on main website, so it could all be speculation, but at least it's there. ooh I just cant wait I so hope its true!!!! :P

I've seen a similar date on another RPG site. This is an estimated release date, as you can never say it is going to come out after exactly so many days after it is thought up.

The planned release for retail was December of 2003 after a 6 month beta planned to start mid may. The hope was probably to get it out for christmas. I would hate to see beta rushed to meet that deadline. When you are close to being finished so close to christmas, the temptation is to release early and cash in...it's a baaaaaad idea but huuuuuge temptation.Anyhoo, Yes, Dec 2003 was seen as an initial release date...but will almost certainly be pushed back

Let's hope it doesn't go the whole video game route. If it does it may not come out till 2006! It's the whole "Oh there's new technology, so let's redo our whole game!". I hate that! Just make the game and make it better as it goes. I think DnL will do that so I'm not worried.

I'd say from the first Beta release that the game will go gold in march/april 2004, besides they don't need to have every feature enabled to make this game great, they can just make it stable then introduce new things every few weeks

This game is already in the beta stages, but on MMORPG.com it says its realease date is unknown. Now WoW (world of warcraft) is expected to release 06/14/04 but it hasnt even hit its beta stages. So if this has already been in beta since november its got to be release sometime before WoW. Im still deciding between this and WoW. What do you guys think i should play? And does anybody know some kind of date it will be released?

Well, nobody really knows the exact release date. They are beta testing right now so it willl be whenever they get the game running good and all that. I'm guessing it will be a few months...

The current aim for the release date is for summer of '04 (this year), however it's likely that that date could be pushed back because of some unexpected bugs or over zealous devs planning when they will be done .

According to a recent (a couple days ago) interview with Vuuar, the game would hit stores (in germany anyways, figure the rest of the world would get it about the same time) by fall of this year. If you want to look at the interview look for the thread titled "The Real Round??" and was started by crud - it is still on the first page of this board about halfway down. Thats because there really isnt any. DnL is doing something smart by not releasing one. By not releasing one they are allowing themselves time to fix anything that comes up during beta without having to push the deadline back. This also reduces the stress load on trying to make sure the game is ready by the deadline. Shadowbane and SWG are a good example of what happens when a deadline is set and must be followed even when there are problems with the game.My best guess is sometime in the area you said, Q3-Q4.

That Q2 '04 has been pushed back. The latest release date given to the press has been set for January. Whether or not they release then is another story... hopefully when they do release (hopefully by then) it will be one kick-arse game.

The planned release date is still April of this year and the developers are working very hard to meet that date.As for the publishing, Farlan is the sole publisher of DnL and release method is still to be determined, the game may be released as a download rather than CD box version, but I dont think anything has been set in stone yet, as with most things in any beta test
stop by the dev chat tomorrow (feb 1st) and see if there is any new news released

Doubtful, as before you start making a game you already know everything you need to code and createPublicity was being held back to just before release. Also that 3.5 has managed to attract 157000 people, so give it some credit

Yep Madjorin, in one of the dev interviews they seems quite confident on a November 5 release.Just because they haven't released any info doesn't mean it ain't there.
At this point in the schedule, I'd assume all the major hurdles are done and now it's smaller systems and polishing time. It would be a bad idea to miss the Christmas rush.

They have only stated that SoG will be released in November, they havent given a specific date in november so if i remember correctly there are 30 days in november which means any time between now and the 30th of november.
Seems like a lot of people seem to think that because it hasnt been released yet and its the 3rd of november it must be canceled.
They have a whole month to release SoG, be patient it will come.
Best things in life are free, and guess what SoG is free.
it will happen sooner than you think.
And I love how the mods can lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie for 3 years and people still kiss their ass.

Im not sure I can think of an MMORPG since I have started playing them that hasnt been delayed at least once, and many have been delayed over and over and over.

Infra, i fail to see your point other then D&L was delayed. Delaying games is normal because there are so many things that can go wrong or new unexpected things appear on the horizon. THe only thing i am concerned with is lack of information about this game. NDA is pretty much blocking any information flow from players who play this game. And yet they will have a preorder soon. Its like you go to walmart, you see this unlabeled mark with a price tag 59.99$ you dont know whats inside and nobody tells u whats inside. Are you gonna purchase that box?
This whole thing does smell very fishy. Id love to believe devs and screenshots, but Ive been fooled before. If any1 has some nformation about this game, why not share with us all? Is this game is as good as devs are saying it is? Or is it as crappy as some trolls say it is?

Lie is a strong word for poor planning. Actually it is nothing special to MMORPG industry but the whole software industry (big projects only of course). The fact is you can make a 80% software in timex1 then you can make 99% software in timex5. And no it was not a mistake to not say 100% because no big project software is 100% bug free.

Quite frankly, such delays reveal nothing about the quality of the game. Many delayed titles, for instance Half Life 2, did prove quite entertaining and I really would prefer a delayed but well developed title from a rushed, buggy release that we're quite used in from previous MMOG titles, such as AO or SWG.
Their only mistake was a public relations one. They should have avoided any discussion about the release date until the very last stages of development.

How sad that some people are so quick to tear down some one who is trying to do what no one has done before. I will remind everyone here that Dark and Light is pioneering massive dynamic loading cluster server technology. For the first time this will allow large scale player gatherings (150 to 500) in one small place without lag anywhere in the game world.
They have had unexpected problems making this technology work but it finally seems to be working well enough for a public release. Every gamer here should be thrilled at this. Instead what do we get. Complaints that the game took too long to develop, that the developers aren't all-knowing, even accusing them of lying. Shame on you!
Perhaps only programmers or engineers who have worked on cutting edge technology can really appreciate what happens when working on the frontiers of knowledge.
Obviously you're not in beta and totally clueless. Just wait until SOG and be enlightened about the actual state of the game.

IF what you say is true, then everyone should know this, even if u r breaking NDA, companies who try to trick people into believing their product is more then what it is should be exposed and punished. Nobody likes to buy a car just to find out it has no engine, no seats, no nothing inside, just a frame. This is of course if what you are saying is true.
Its hard to make a logical decision based on someone's word, but I think ill skip the preorder and wait for the free SOG (i didnt know it was free, how do I sign up?). I smelled a trap ever since no solid info was allowed to get out of the beta. Companies that have nothing to hide never do that. When WoW was getting released, there were people who praised and cursed it. Ive seen so many threads saying WOW WILL FLOP but since i was in beta I could answer them with facts about my experience. We all know how that turned out ...
If DNL is in fact an pretty frame with nothing inside, then we have a moral obligation to do something about it. Is there anyway we can force DNL dev company to lift NDA or at least to show us SOMETHING from inside the game? I mean, there is scam written all over this deal.

Your analysis is quite good, but I guess you're mistaken on a the subject of the Big World technology. If you mean that Mafate includes BigWorld technology, you mean it includes the server technology used for DnL, which is not the case of course since it's been developped my Microforte.
But maybe you wanted to speak about the terrain technology. FYI, the terrain technology is called VWorldTerrain.
It is not the first time that I note in articles (cf http://www.warcry.com/scripts/columns/view_sectionalt.phtml?site=15&id=440&colid=7224) there is a mix between BigWorld and VWorldTerrain (which, granted, was called V-world 2 years ago, a technology which had been developped since 1996, but not by NPCube). But I guess the names are quite similar hence the mistake, or maybe somebody intentionnaly wants to leave room for misinterpretations which is not surprising to me considering the way NPCube is handling its communication.

Actually he's right. Dark and Light is inferior to just about every major MMO on the market in every area except for one. And that technology was stolen from another company.
If this game actually delivered everything the devs promised it would deserve the rating its getting. But its been definitively proven that that's not the case. I'm backing off my position that its vaporware. I think they'll release something but it'll look like the retarded bastard child of Shadowbane. Why not just play Shadowbane? Its dated but its still a good game.
